How I went about replacing my gear gaitor - Fiat Panda 100HP

Thanks but I gave the gearstick a tug, and it came off, it's fitted to a splined shaft so a few taps from underneath with a rubber mallet would dislodge it if it was stiff. Then it was just a case of squeezing the gaiter over the plastic reverse gear gate and doing it all back up. Mines a 2008 Panda 4x4.

I was looking at getting a new gear gaiter for my 09 4x4 panda so definiley happy to see someone with their 4x4 get it off ! Don't fancy restitching it

I had the exact item fitted to my car this week at fiat whilst they were fitting a new oil pressure sensor 👍🏼

Not too bad! Weird that they glue the knob onto the top....Humdrum uses a screw-on knob, which makes things a lot easier! I should get a replacement gaitor for fun at some point, though mine's still in pretty decent shape, surprisingly....although a bit dirty!

It's a bit inconvenient to have it be glued in place but it's not that big of an issue if you have workarounds. I only got it as the previous one had a large hole and a couple other blemishes on it. My mum had a Panda same as mine just not the 100HP that had a bit of wear to the gaitor so maybe they're not the best made things ever but cheap enough to replace. My Renault's one is original and still in good condition after 21 years. Wouldn't be a daily drive without dirt and dust my friend!

It's quite easy to do if you have a screw on gearknob, also, if you can find one for the Accent you can customise, even better!

The MG3 we had could have done with a six speed gearbox like this...

There's definitely an economy advantage to a 6 speed however the Panda's is quite a short ratio between gears. For max fun, gears 1 through 5 are best. 6 is really for cruising.

@@FuelPower, yes, sixth gear in the smaller cars tends to be for motorway use, doesn't it?

It appears to be, yes, I've read recently that when the Mk8 Fiesta came out, Ford made the manual a 6 speed for the 1.0 Ecoboost which was something many owners of the Mk7.5 were crying out for as that only had 5 speed.

I assume you mean the tiny vent in front of the gearstick, but not really any idea what its for! Yes, this may be something I will look into doing in the future!
