I know you probably won't see this, but I think k that is really cool! I'll be heading off to high school in a bit and I've learned trumpet as my first instrument then I swapped to euphonium so the alternate fingerings (it has a 4th valve) caught me very off guard too! I think its really neat to see someone experience something similar and I wish you the best of luck! -The biggest brass lover

I wish you good luck on your journey. I have been playing trumpet for about 5 years and recently got a trombone to start learning. Starting a new instrument is such an annoying process.

It's fine. Keep playin' all around and yall gonna get better. It's always hard to try new instrument, and therefore master in one day. (Impossible) I belive in yah, don't be embarassed.

Trombone player here so I don’t know, but are you really supposed to play the 4th valve with the other hand? I mean it makes sense cause the pinky is just worthless, but it still seems strange to me

Playing picc is very different than Bb. There are a few things David Hickman who is the grandfather of piccolo trumpet talked about at asu 1) the tongue needs to be high in the mouth. -to me this is very similar to clarinet using more of an H syllable regardless of range 2) it requires significantly less air, and significantly colder air. Many people overblow the piccolo 3) much smaller aperture. One of the ways that helps with this is using your Bb with a 1c cup to play your piccolo excerpts at piano-niente volume. If you can control your aperture with a large volume cup on the Bb in the same range quietly it will transfer to piccolo and teach you to use more delicate air. The biggest thing for me personally that players starting on piccolo get wrong is just trying to make their sound too dark. The piccolo is a bright instrument that can sound sweet without sounding brittle, but shouldn’t sound dark. Smaller rim sizes also help with needing less air and having a more focused aperture.

Ey Max i have a tip maybe try bringing your lower lip foward so that you can reach higher notes

Was just experimenting with this recently. It does work, but the added tension and effort it takes to always keep it further out unfortunately detracts from the rest of my playing. Good advice though!

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PICCOLO TRUMPET AND A CORNET?
@jocl882 ай бұрын
The piccolo trumpet usually plays an octave higher than the trumpet, while the cornet is more of a mellow sounding trumpet that blends in better with other instruments (also has a slightly lower range)

It sounds like you are slurring everything. On the piccolo trumpet, you don't want to be slurring in your practice. You've got to learn how to hit the notes precisely by tonguing them. And yes, a lot of notes on the piccolo trumpet require alternate fingerings. And not just the low notes.
