I usually like the paint and white wash on furniture, but this table in particular looked way better with the first stain. The different wood tones are beautiful and look better with stain and a clear coat. Your work is very detailed and thorough. You take the time to explain . Really good job.

@Furniture Flippa Use mineral spirits with some #0000 steel wool or scrub brush to clean off excess stripper. Mineral sprits will not damage bare wood. You just want to make sure that you wipe it off immediately so the excess doesn't soak in and swell the wood. Repeat until all residue is gone then let dry.

Also the visible ring of darker wood on top should have been hidden completely with paint and then you should have added a wood grain texture to the top of the white wash.

That’s the look I want for my dining set, but it’s red oak (very 80s). Do you know if the ebony stain will cut back the red? All my test patches end up with either a pink or purple tint when I whitewash.
@FurnitureFlippa3 жыл бұрын
I did apply ebony on a red colored table before, I just sanded down and applied the stain twice. It came out dark with no red! Maybe let the stain dry and if it looks good you can wash over it?

Was this table top laminate or solid wood??
@FurnitureFlippa3 жыл бұрын
wood!
@rockshot1003 жыл бұрын
I hate to argue but that top parquet is a veneer if that is what you are referring to. Now "laminate" mostly refers to plastic, but laminate just means to glue sheets together like plywood is. Or a beam could be laminated, meaning sandwiched together to make it more stable.

Too much work going on here! The brand called Farmhouse paint, looks like chalk paint but has primer and topcoat, which dries to a very hard finish. It also drives very quickly two coats but you don't have to do all that prep. Nope resanding unless you have deep gouges in your wood surface that you want to eliminate. Be careful when standing as your wood maybe a laminate.
