This is truly amazing. We needed honest answers to so many of our questions. I think we'll finally able to get that from you. Thank you so much, waiting for your next video.

Most ridiculous thing I heard is that IMGs may have more time to prepare forgetting most of them still have their country's exams to deal with

6:14 Minor rant here, there are so many programs that employ YOG cutoffs, that older IMGs find it extremely difficult to match. The assumption that old YOG = you didn't practice in the meantime is extremely unfair and super frustrating, and frankly it is a lazy way to filter out applicants.

Thanks for the awesome content! Im a non US IMG hoping to get into IM. I will be migrating to the USA (as permanent resident) in 4 years. My home country doesn't do IM residency currently and I wanted to know if there was another type of residency(EM, Anesthesia, FM) I can do that will reflect positively on my application towards a US IM match in the future.

That’s very clear and so helpful can you please tell us more about the time of application Is it important to apply before September the 28th?
@lawyerdoctor
@lawyerdoctor Жыл бұрын
September 28 is when all of the applications will go to programs, even if you release your application to programs prior to the 28th, the programs will not receive them. That is if you're going through ERAS.

Also, my personal opinion, if you are an IMG, it is important to get your application out as early as possible. All of your exams should be completed, letters of recommendation uploaded, and the application complete.

Thanks so much for this video! So I graduated in 2021 from an international medical school. I haven’t had any recent USCE experience since the summer of 2021, but I’ve been trying to finish my steps. Should I start looking for more USCE or how can I manage studying for steps while doing USCE? Thanks!
@doctorLijia
@doctorLijia 2 жыл бұрын
Hi that's a great question. It is extremely important to prioritize studying for Step 1 and 2 so you can get the highest score you can achieve. I would also make sure to start arranging for at last 3 months of USCE to have on your application before you apply which can take a long time to coordinate. Feel free to DM with any questions.

Hi Dr Lija! Can an img match without USCE with good scores?

Dr. Lijia, since step 1 is pass fail now, starting from this and next match are programs going to change their step 1 filters? Does it put applicants with only a pass on their application at a disadvantage than others with a step score? Thankyou in advance.
@doctorLijia
@doctorLijia 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! I doubt having a pass in Step 1 will be a disadvantage compared to having a number score, it'll probably just make the Step 2 score even more important.

Thank you for your video. As a non-US IMG Yog-2019 with a step 1 failed attempt do i have a chance in matching to IM? I am confused whether to continue with the journey or not? Please help
@doctorLijia
@doctorLijia 2 жыл бұрын
There is always a chance, but having a Step 1 fail does make it tougher, so doing really well on Step 2 and strengthening the rest of your application is key.

Wow, good scores, continuity of medical training, and #1 in class, you are clearly extremely talented. With 2-3 months of USCE in person, you would hopefully have a strong application that I hope would get you many interviews - less so with 2 months of only telerotations, but some programs may still be interested since your application is otherwise good.

Hi I’m an IMG from Indonesia, pretty down since I got a low step 1 score. My step 1 score is 217, YoG 2020, did 1 year of internship so no gap year, planning to have 2/3 in person USCE, do you think I stand some chance at IM this year? Thanks in advance
@doctorLijia
@doctorLijia 2 жыл бұрын
Hey congrats on passing Step 1! 217 isn't too bad, plus you have continuity of training and a reasonable amount of USCE planned. Do your best and try to score even higher on Step 2. You absolutely still have a shot at IM!

@@doctorLijia thanks for your response and encouragement. I really appreciate it. I'm just afraid that I'll get filtered out by most programs even if I do well on step 2ck and end up with less desirable programs. Do you think this is still the case for this cycle's match?
