I really think it’s going to be a hit. I think it’s going to win over a lot of baseball fans too. What’s really going to decide the growth is if we can get kids/teenagers to start playing it outside of the typical southeast Asian fanbase. What will happen in 2030 when India will have 10 trillion dollars economy and middle class rises and have more purchasing power? Cricket's not just a sport in India. It's part of our lives. We play it on weekends, most of my family has some cricket discussion group, i'm one of the more "quiet observers" who just plays for fun and keeps an emotional distance to the outcome of the games, but for a lot of people, cricket is truly integral to their lives. Tbh, i still don't understand the global madness of football. I've played in tourneys and watched football games (both in live and in TV) as well as played baseball. Cricket's just another level of joy which I think most people in the world are missing out on. Oh well, their loss.

Well the thing about IPL and T20 cricket was, that it wasn't BCCI's idea. And BCCI were actually not Interested in T20 at all, a media group know as ZEE, and it's chairman actually saw the potential in t20, and decided to make a t20 tournament called "Indian Cricket league" but the ICC were against the idea since in the 1970s an Australian media also made a cricket tournament with limited rules and coloured jerseys and it looked way exciting then the test matches and it forced ICC to adapt the match format, so they will not let a media company rule cricket again. So with the help of BCCI, they destroyed every possibility of ICL to Happen ICL went bankrupt few years later, while IPL was the BCCI's final weapon.

Cricketers are professional and most have very short career except some legends of the game. But they can earn by playing Franchise Cricket and have a prosperous future after retirement. Only International Cricket should be ICC tournaments. Only 11 players play in a match, but in Cricket Leagues almost 70-100 local player plays, get money and exposure.

People hyping this up and saying it's bigger than EPL,should realise that EPL cannot be compared with IPL(read the details around it). The only thing that IPL can compared with in football is the ESL (and it doesn't exist yet). If it were to exist, here is the value. The current value of IPL is $ 6.2B. The combined value of just the teams in the proposed ESL would be $34.4B. There is no way shape or form cricket can trump football. Why? - Cricket is really followed by mostly Indians. - India has a low per capita income in dollar terms, and that means, even if you have high viewership , it won't translate into something close to what football would in terms of overall viewership. -Yes,India will grow to a 10T economy, and as Indian I'd be happy about it, but cricket's growth will primarily be in India, and Football will grow more organically across various nations.Imagine, the chinese league taking off,the middle eastern league taking off,the European Super League taking off. And what if Indian football takes off? The format of cricket and it's complexity will always take viewers away from it. Just look at the Top 20 richest sporting person in the whole world, you would probably find more American sports person,a few footballers, and possibly only one or two cricketer.

We should really have some more ipl like sports models in our country, like we have kabaddi and football. I would love to see the revival of old Indian sports and some other sports like basketball, rugby, tennis etc.

This video makes it look like cricket went straight from an amateur sport to IPL. They left out the fact that Kerry Packer made the game professional with World Series Cricket in between. Then later the IPL/India took it to the next level.

With the huge economy, population and being the biggest sports market on Earth, bringing cricket to the US makes sense, but is not going to be easy. It's ironic, that India is helping to fund the only market that could logically compete with the IPL.
