have not had social media except KZbin and WhatsApp for 6 years at this point. It's great and scary at the same time when you see all these social media dependant people falling into a pit of depression. My frnds can't go a day without social media. the down side however is that you'll have less people and less contact with people which I've grown comfortable with. I don't need to take pictures before I eat, I don't need people to know where I am, I don't need people to know what I'm doing and what I've accomplished and I don't need to look at what other people are doing too so all in all its rewarding.
@kat4onelove2 жыл бұрын
I'm proud of you. Hardly anyone has the will to do what you do. Also, the "less contact" is almost an illusion. Sure, there's "more contact" with others when your on social media. Truth is, that kind of communication is so void of depth that most of it is meaningless. Its so much better to connect with others less often, but in person. The Way I see it: I'd rather talk to ppl here and there about stuff that matters, than talk to ppl everyday about nothing.

I bought an old, small IPhone and if I want to install an app, l need to type in a code that only my boyfriend has. Sometimes I use KZbin too much but that’s about it. Normally I don’t watch Shorts either. Believe me when I say that everything in your life will improve the moment you stop using social media. You’ll have better relationships because you won’t be distracted so much. You’ll start to do the things you actually love again, reading, drawing, learning an instrument etc. At this point I’m actually convinced that most people who talk about ADHD on TikTok don’t actually have ADHD, they’re just addicted to their phone. I also believe that the mental health of young people is only that bad because of their phones. Of course there are also people who actually have ADHD and there are also people who have mental health issues but they’re probably a minority. I’ve been there, I know what it can do to your brain. Of course you have to relearn a lot of things, especially concentrating, I’m not saying that it’s easy. But think about how much time you waste of your life. If you use your phone 4 hours a day you’d waste a total of 1.460 hours in a year, that are 60 days in a year (without even adding the time you have to sleep during those days). In 10 years you’d waste almost 2 years. And if you continue to use your smartphone for the next 50 years you’d lose EIGHT YEARS of your life! Imagine what you could do in eight years? It’s even worse if you use your phone longer and I know that most of you probably don’t stop at 4 hours. I mean, if you use TikTok for example, most of the time you can’t even remember what exactly you watched 10 minutes ago. If you’d use four hours a day to improve a skill you’d master this skill extremely quickly. I wish this generation would understand how big this issue is. Most social media apps were built to make you addicted, because a high screen time means money for the corporates. Instagram and TikTok are basically your puppet masters and you don’t do anything about it. You literally become a slave.

Only downside was that I was out of the loop on my friends and family's life. My friends got pregnant, had kids, got married, divorced, moved etc I'm still catching up even after being semi active for 8 months now

That's the one thing I hate too is feeling like you're not keeping up with those you care about. On the flip side, it showed me who is really thinking of me, and arewilling to have a genuine relationship and allow me into their lives as well. My true friends and I talk on the phone at least once a week to check in. My mom will keep me posted on family stuff. I've tried reaching out to certain people from time to time to no avail. They remain distant. 🤷🏾♀️

I’ve been doing this, the social media break part of it, since July. Although I still have KZbin downloaded and will occasionally watch yt shorts, it’s very interesting the change in my daily life. It was very difficult at first, still is. I have no idea what my friends are talking about when they bring up trends or scandals and they always have to fill me in or show me what’s happened. For me being on social media was a big part of my everyday life. I had to post things and keep up to date with everything that’s happening on the apps. But why did I have to, is what I asked myself. The world isn’t going to end if I don’t understand a tiktok trend or understand a meme. To keep it short, I focus all of my days purely on bettering myself, picking up new hobbies, finding new passions. I’ve wanted to learn to and follow choreography for years and with nothing to do on my phone or anything to keep up with I’ve finally started. Not saying everyone should do it but my experience of it has been super beneficial, especially when depression consumed my life. I always recommend people take a day or two away from socials just to see if there’s any change that you benefit from.

It's not that difficult to stay off social media. I think we've just grown used to the idea of constantly being in contact with people and gaining validation through pictures and likes. I think we just need to get in touch with who we are on a much deeper level because at this point it's like without the internet we wouldn't have personalities... Not saying the internet is bad. I feel like good and bad friendships can be made there but the sense of self has been lost drastically

KZbin is the only social media (which I don't even consider a real SM) I use these days. I also use Messenger just to maintain contact with certain people but nothing else. Staying almost completely off all SM is the best thing ever for your peace and mental health. You need to be social in the real world instead. Also, the other day I lost my Internet connection for two days, and during that time, I've never slept so well. Be aware, that looking at a screen all day and all night, will ruin your sleep quality.

Going on my 6 or 7th year since quitting FB, never had Instagram or anything else so can’t speak to that. But I’ve learned that it drained me daily instead of enriching my life. It’s so much all the time, I don’t think humans are designed to input that much “stuff” all the time. Just my opinion and my circumstances, but it was one of the healthiest choices I’ve ever made. You can still be involved like here on YT, but it’s so much more controlled by you, you can participate without being overwhelmed.

Gen z once again proving how weird and out of touch with reality they are. No social media means no internet means no vlogging. It means living in the moment not recording everything for someone else to see. Gen z has no clue what life before social media was that they think what she's doing is avoiding social media.
