Living where it’s constantly -40 in late January and February, it’s not that bad kicking a football as long as you keep your feet warm when not on the field and that the ball is somewhat warm. I’m sure the kicker has hot packs on the sideline, and the ball constantly being handled will keep it from getting too hard. The worst thing about football in negative temps is when your fingers jam into another players equipment. Feels like they want to snap off.

@@aaronwhite1786 I played high school football, and if it was snowing, it was a plus, meant it was relatively nice out, usually above 20F. My fingers still hurt thinking about the time we played Two Harbors on the north side of Lake Superior when it was below 0 and the wind coming off the ice bit hard. It hurt to bend the fingers. I ref hockey now, and even after doing 8 games in a day, my hands never get near as cold as when we played football below zero. Tips of the fingers felt like they were simultaneously on fire and frozen.

That 60+ yard bomb in the Lions game made my jaw drop. Fox is an absolute legend, his punting basic made the Rams have to drive down the field on every drive, and after doing that, they’d stall and have to settle for Field Goals. Everything clicked for the Lions that night, Including the Punting.
@shawnthetaco107 ай бұрын
Fox has been doing this all year, honestly looking back he's a huge part of the complimentary football that's led to the Lions success. Yeah the defense is still a huge flaw, but when Fox is making the other team drive the length of the field even when the defense is getting beat it compliments the run heavy offense very well by making the opponent use as much clock as possible every time they score. This is a big part of why the lions never broke through with the Stafford teams, they never had a compliment to the explosive pass based offense. But now with a more run focused offense and Fox's God punts the entire team is built to get an early lead and just grind the clock down, which is exactly what they did on Sunday.

Its interesting about Guy - if you are a young dude who never watched him - his stats look paltry compared to today's beefy punters - but as a Raiders hater back then - Guy was my enemy because he always came through and always changed the game to help his team. I think a lot of his yardage got shortage due to the Raiders offense and always on the short field - but he was a monster of his day. Rick Robey also had a monster leg back then too.

Many years ago The Raiders drafted Ray Guy a punter in the first round which was unheard of at that time all the Raider fans were outraged saying Really ! a punter, who cares about a punter? especially when there was a lot of other attractive picks available like running backs, wide receivers, linebackers or all the flashy positions that fans want to see, but that pick as punter proved to be a good move because Ray Guy could pin teams back deep in their own territory with his accurate high booming kicks that allowed the raiders cover team to get down the field as the ball hung in the air longer than most punters were able to do denying the other team the opportunity for a punt return or forced them into taking a fair catch, that helped out the Raider defense which contributed to their winning many games, People forget how important the kicking game is till you need it most

I don't know why so many guys fair catch inside the 10, or even 5 sometimes. Back in the day, they would stand on the 10 yard line, and let it go if it's over their head. You might get pinned a few yards deeper sometimes with a perfect bounce and perfect coverage. But chances are better it's going to be a touchback, and you gain 15-20 yards of field position.

I always say that fantasy football should add punters to their teams, based on what this guying is saying. Punts between the 10 and 5 yardline? 2 points ... add 1 point for every yard to the 1 yardline, 10 points within the one yard line, and minus 1 for touch backs. 1 point for every punt over 45 yards, 2 points over 50 yards, 3 for 60 yards and so on. Any return for more than 10 yards puts your punter into the next bracket of possible point(s). Any return for a touchdown goes against the defense. Let's make punters relevant. lol
