As a Utah fan I'm embarrassed by the whining of the AD and coach. You reveal your true character when the chips are down and they are being huge babies. Hell they didn't even need points in the second half, just a few more first downs would have won. Or the DB catching that pick right into his hands on the last drive that he dropped. Pathetic. BYU wanted it more and they got it. Good luck to them.
@LuvErs19 күн бұрын

Considering the QB was wrapped up and going down before the flag was thrown, they have a legitimate gripe....no referee throws a flag for holding on a running play 50 yards behind the runner.
@phav18329 күн бұрын
@@tacticalmattfoley When the flag was thrown is irrelevant. After seeing the jersey grabbing, it might take the ref a second to get the flag out. If Utah is grabbing and holding, it takes away the QB's options and he's gonna get sacked. That's the purpose of the rule. Utah got caught. It was a better call than the face mask call against BYU that clearly didn't involve grabbing the face mask.

As a BYU fan, the field position battle was just killing me this game. Sam Vander Haar did his best but he was constantly punting out of his own end zone, so Utah would get the ball at the 40, punt back to the goal line, then BYU would maybe get a first down, then punt from the end zone again, repeat for an entire half.

Perfect! Isaac. You the man! Dead on. I totally agree with you. Why is no one talking about the HOF performance of this punter and all other punters in the game at any level. Well done my friend. And thank you. A punter is worth their weight in gold in the points they keep off the board of their opponent. This is a big part of BYU's undefeated success this year, field position. When they had less yards than their opponents this year, they still won. Why? Field position and turnovers. Total yards is a totally deceiving stat. It's irrelevant.

The MVP is the scoreboard: BYU 22, Utes 21.
@cpat70658 күн бұрын
A great punter is worth his weight in gold. It could add 5 to 8 plays to a drive if pinned back far enough. It puts the pressure on the offense to get out of a hole, it also can make it so the other team's putter has some pressure to sail it out. Mad respect for good punters.
@ehemple7 күн бұрын
Why is no one talking about the facemask penalty when the replay showed that BYU didn't touch Utah's quarterback's facemask? That penalty led to a Utah touchdown. However, on the fourth down, when the ref called holding, the replay confirmed that Utah was holding. So, what are the Uts' crying about? BYU won and Utah lost.

I'm a Ute season ticket holder and big UTE fan. I've watched this hapless offense for 4 games prior to this one. I KNEW THAT BYU WOULD MARCH DOWN THE FIELD AND SCORE. They did it in the Ok state game or the Kstate game. They have the confidence and talent to do so. This year BYU is way better than the Utes. The were getting huge chunks of yardage on their pass plays and the quarterback was throwing to wide open receivers. I will be surprised if the UTES win one more game this year..sad but true. I wish BYU luck in their quest for a great season. Alabama, Texas, Oregon ,Ohio State, Notre dame, Penn State, Iowa, Ol Miss, Army and others will be more than stout competition for them to reach their goal. I will be rooting for BYU!!!

It's not that it wasn't a good game. But it was a game that Utah should have won. They played the better game. I'm not gonna claim the refs handed BYU the game but it's something that the Utes should have been able to easily avoid. If they would have just called a soft zone on 4th down instead of press coverage, they win; you can't get dinged for defensive holding if everyone is playing back. I was angry, not at the refs, but at my team. Because it was potentially the upset of the week (maybe the year). It would have ended a four game losing streak. It was in their pocket, they were prepared to shake hands, and they managed to somehow f it up.
@justinjosie54179 күн бұрын
I would agree with you that utah should have won but they did absolutely nothing the second half. Did put a single point on the board. Byu struggled compared to other games but they were consistent the whole game. Kept pecking away and pulled out the win. Byu deserved it
@Watermelon_Man929 күн бұрын
@@justinjosie5417: Well, if by "deserve it" you mean they didn't beat themselves, then I suppose that's true. All I'm saying is Utah committed suicide. They controlled the game, they just didn't finish. They actually had like five or six different chances to put that game away and they didn't take advantage of any of them.
@rdancranston9 күн бұрын
The best way to put the game away is to score more points ...even a filed goal would've done this but they couldn't even do that in the 2nd half. In the end BYU played the better game by scoring drives and their defense stopping any further scoring after the half...
@robmack5199 күн бұрын
BYU fan here, and from where I'm sitting, neither side "deserved" that win. Utah looked good in the first half and their Defense deserves their reputation of being elite. That said, both teams played very sloppy football, and committed a bunch of penalties to shoot themselves in the foot at key points. BYU had 9 penalties, Utah had 8! In the 2nd half, Utah got the ball 3 times at midfield and couldn't move the ball 15-20 yards to get into field goal range. I'm just saying, nobody played well last night. Also, if we're talking penalties that shouldn't have been called, look at the facemask call against BYU in the first half. Rose moved his head weird, but if you slow it down, there's no facemask. That went from a 10+ yard sack to a 15 yard penalty and resulted in a touchdown. take that away, and the defensive holding away and BYU loses 3 points, but Utah likely loses 7.
@Watermelon_Man929 күн бұрын
@@robmack519: You gave each team a lower grade than I did. As I said before, I'm not putting it on the refs. But Utah beat themselves. They missed their chance. That's a part of life. I'm a USCF chess player, I've messed up a lot of my own games. It happens.

I mean the very fact that the punter had a highlight tape from one game is the reason why Utah lost the game. I called it at half-time that Whittingham would micro-manage the offense again to shift over to the overly conservative offense that Utah always runs when they have even a slight lead. Utah only wants three things for their offense. A good running back, fast linebackers, and a punter. They don’t care for a good QB or any receivers.
