Omg I'm so happy you reacted to this! I really love this movie, I think it's so underrated. And yes it's really goofy and just so meta as well bc it pokes fun at itself and the usual tropes a lot, but they really weaved a lot of good messages in there too. Not to mention it's really clever how they added the little details for this lego world and how it was created by the kid - like the "8 1/2 years later" is probs the age of the kid, how some movements of the characters really mimic how kids play (the horse moving, the ghost on a literal string lol, etc.). Also the fact that the piece of resistance is literally just the cap of the glue is so funny hahah, such child-like logic as well. Anyway, you're one of my fave reactors with how much insight you have to each reaction, and it was great to see you just laugh at everything hahah. I met up with one of the character designs and consept artists who worked on thos movie (Phil Rynda), such a fun and nice guy! He said it was a difficult but fun task, because he had to design the world and characters with lego bricks that actually exist. And if you know Phil Rynda, he likes to work with fluid lineart (like Adventure time, which he also worked on), so the bricks was gonna be difficult, he mastered it imo. He designed Metalbeard. Love this movie, everyone did a great job

Personally, I prefer to think that their house is somehow trapped between two dimensions, and each dimension influences the other, and the magic portal is an actual magical artifact. That would explain why Emmet can move, and Will Ferrell can hear his movements. This is one of my absolute favorites, and I encourage you to revisit it occasionally. You will likely notice new things each time. There is a sequel, but I encourage you to watch Lego Batman first. Not only is it a great film, it is chronologically the next film in the series. There are small references between Lego Batman & Lego 2, that will make slightly more sense, when watched in sequence. It's optional, though. I think it will make Lego 2 seem slightly less disappointing, if you watch it last. I still recommend all three, though.

I really really love that movie, it's just genius, it combines how kids play with legos (thats why the animals have silly human voices), homemade stop motion lego videos, really silly humor and a great animation style, heck everything is made out actual lego bricks, even smoke and water. It looks like a stop motion film (even the figures can only move like they could like an actual physical one, their arms or anything else dont bend) but actually is CGI. also it has a cool story. we really dont deserve this movie :D it could have been a cheap cash crab to be honest Phil Lord and Chris Miller are just genuis directors and writers, they want to push the animation genre further with each film, they also did the spiderverse movies.

This movie is SO good. The hilarious star-studded cast is phenomenal, and the writing is gold! But I think one of my favorite things is the animation...yes, it's CGI, but they went above and beyond. There are a ton of "LEGO" brand movies/shows for kids that are basically cartoon LEGO graphics, but for this series, they put a ton of time and effort into scanning real LEGO pieces and those tiny imperfections into everything. You can see all the tiny divots in everything that pieces get organically, they added in all of the mold points pieces have in real life (like the line in Emmet's hair)...they even purposely added the crack in Benny's helmet just under the chin where it always broke lol. They went SO above and beyond in the graphics it's unreal. Lol.

This is the only role Will Ferrell has ever done where I've been able to even remotely stand him and what he's doing. And he's actually great too. Him softening up and playing with his kid is really heartwarming and nice. (Spoiler alert.) The Lego Movie is just crazy. It's hyperactivity condensed into solid (brick!) form, which I don't really like, but it's so well done, there's so much humor and fun stuff packed in there whizzing by SO FAST, just two viewings isn't remotely enough to analyze - or even experience - everything. The truly adorable thing about the movie is it's written and presented like a kid making up a story as he plays - the intercuts with crude lego models representing enormous, intricately detailed constructions which we see at certain points (along with silly mouth-created sound effects) shows how much a fertile imagination can add to something really simple. Truly a modern classic of a movie. :)
