When Gru went to adopt the girls, he said to Miss Hattie that her face looks "como un burro" Como un burro means like a donkey That's why she didn't like it when she looked up the meaning in the Spanish dictionary.

The way you respond to children and parenting in movies is so sweet. If you ever have children, they will be so lucky to have you as a father! As for me, having grown up with an emotionally abusive parent, watching your reactions to movies adressing family dynamics has been really healing in a way and it helps a lot to get your point of view on the presented situations, as I am aware mine can be quite skewed by my experiences.

If you haven't seen Megamind, you should definitely check it out. It came out 5 months after Despicable Me and was overshadowed by it and interpreted by viewers as copying the "protagonist is a villain" idea, in spite of the fact that Megamind's plot was ironed out well before Despicable Me was released. Good to see you’re reacting to the first _Despicable Me_ film and for Illumination’s debut animated film it’s easily one of their best. I really enjoy Gru’s evolution in the film that he originally wanted to steal the moon to become the greatest villain once again and decided to hire the girls just for his own selfish reasons. Eventually Gru starts to warm up to the orphaned girls and eventually become their adoptive father. Looking forward to the rest of the _Despicable Me/Minions_ films and apparently it’s worth noting if you notice the animation quality and frame rate of the first film to the later Despicable Me/Minions sequels it’s very noticeable considering the first film had a $69 million budget while the Despicable Me sequels/spin-offs had a $76-$85 million budget hence the movement and texture of the first movie being more like a direct-to-video or a CG TV series quality.

33:41 I don't know if you caught the meaning there or not. Gru's not the one that called; Nefario is. "If you don't do something about it, then I will." Yes, Gru packed them up and put them in the car, and that was a cruel thing to do. No arguments here. But Nefario was the catalyst for Hattie showing up. Also, for your questions on why these characters are doing these terrible things throughout the movie (and I love the fact that you are un-jaded enough to keep asking the question...), there is a very simple answer: They're villains. If they want something, they take it. If someone is in their way, they remove them. If something interferes with their plans, the obstruction is dealt with. Swiftly. This is why Gru's arc is so compelling, and why we love a reformed villain so much. They go from cold and unfeeling and remorseless...to someone we could see ourselves sitting and sharing a meal with. The become human, for lack of a better word. They gain empathy and understanding and self-awareness, learning that how they have acted to that point is wrong, *and they strive to do better.*

i love your videos! i'm not sure if anyone else said this or if it's right, but when i saw this as a kid, i thought it was dr. nefario that called up the orphanage to have the girls return, which made me really sad! i don't really like a lot of illumination films, but i forgot how special this one was to me. it used to be my dad and i's favorite movie! just seeing the clips of gru reminds me so much of my dad. i appreciate you reacting to this movie!
