Hey Phil, I always enjoy when you talk to Taylor. I bought an Overdrive Reverb early this year from him and was very impressed that when I called to order, he talked to me on the phone about what I was looking for and the customizations that I wanted. I've been over the moon with how great the amp sounds. It is worth every penny.

I have an AN amp which I had to sell a DGT for but that amp is freaking amazing. The sounds are beautiful; it’s the first amp where I camped on the clean channel for days without missing the dirt. Wonderful amps and completely worth the sacrifice.

Bruce Egnater tells a fun story about working on SRV’s Steel String Singer. It makes perfect sense for what is expected from that amp. I’m sure Phil could get the story from the source.

Good to hear someone who is actually building Dumble style amps dispelling the myth of every amp being "totally different." I learned quite a bit about what qualities are attributed to this style of amplifier. Great interview.
@mortonwilson7953 ай бұрын
I've asked myself that same question. 'Dumbles' are modified amps as I understand it, generally classic Fenders, and evolved into specific handmade amps, with 'variations on a theme' (?). So, never having played thru one I've followed various reviews of the amps and pedals and I think I sort of 'get it'. For myself I have found that going thru the Effectrode Blackbird Valve Pedal into my vintage Blues Jnr. gives me something special . . . dumblish or not, I dunno but it certainly takes the Fender into a new area that's pretty terrific.

I own a Amp Nation Bombshell and a Spark40, so let me explain the difference. The Spark40 is great, but like eating the exact same meal day after day, no matter how good it tastes, you get culinary monotony 😕 - and with an Amp Modeler you'll get tonal monotony. The Bombshell is different. I don't know if it's the wall voltage changes, tube temperatures ... who the bloody hell knows; but you get small fresh variations in tone every time you play through it. And then there are some days you just go WOW 😮 and you mind meld with the amp, and you play until your fingers bleed. Amp Modelers will never deliver those special days that you'll remember forever. It's hard to explain until you've experienced it; but I've tried by best guys, and I hope this helps.

For the OLD SCHOOLERS . . . . We need a Amplified Nation MIDI control 2 or 3 channel 2U PreAmp ..... and a 6L6 / EL34 blender 3U power amp. For those that still run FULL RACKS ! ! ! ! I use the SYN2 and the ART SGX2000 Express .... Time for a new Rack Mount Tube Preamp / DSP !

I have found that, in my house, that keeps me in a small bedroom I cannot play above the low 80s in decibels but, I need to hit an average of 80dB to get a usable sound out of an amp. This is true with any type of amplification and any type or size speaker. I have a half dozen options and each has delivered the same result.

If you turn up a 100w amp to blow off steam in a typical suburban neighborhood, keep it turned up so you won't hear the cops knocking on your door.

The only answer is Custom Tones Ethos Overdrive. Second place would be Tubesteader Beekeeper. Third place would be Vertex Steel String Singer, with an additional clean boost before.

Appreciate the break down on amplifiers themselves. Very informative. Especially how the speakers react to certain heads. And you're right. It's just nice to have an amp at home that you can rip on. I've been on the search for a nice tube head. What's a good head in the 500-750$ range?

As Dumble amps all seem to be the same thing but mildly tweaked for the player surely it should be possible to clone a basic Dumble and fit a knob to switch between Mayer, Shepherd etc. modes?
@blackfishgaming71453 ай бұрын
“Cherp” and “chewy” -got that folks? Cherp and chewy is what started to define the dumble sound. We need amps and pedals that are chewy and cherp. Plus, they’ll sound like you’re playing a horn. 😂👍🏼

Coming from a studio guy, playing anything digital (plugins, profiles, modelers, pedal boards etc...) it all comes down to your playback system in order to have that same experience as a cab in a room. But if u have an iso room with cabs not even in the same room and you are playing thru your same monitoring system in the control room.... there really is no difference. It's all preference at that point cuz sound is king in the scenario

I don’t understand this interview. Aren’t all of his designs essentially high end clones of existing circuits? @Phil no disrespect meant, but - this feels off-brand for you.
@NyneForte3 ай бұрын
He really likes his amplified nation amps so how is it off brand? U like what U like and want to talk about it right?
@dstads3 ай бұрын
@@NyneForteI hear you. The big bloom pedal is a direct clone of a small builder, which, to me, isn’t super cool. And all of their amps are direct clones too. And it just seemed like there was a conversation in this vid that was off. Sweetwater and others have carried Fuchs amps for years, which are more modified original designs. This is a conversation from the early 90s being rehashed, and on direct clones. Im not knocking the brand - might be great build quality and research and all. And yes, there are many clones of many types. It just seems off brand for Phil to give this airtime, let alone 80 minutes of it.

Great interview ! I’m interested in Dumble-like pedals … would be a great comparison video … also how does a Kemper Dumble sound compare? Or in a Spark that has the ability to mimic other amps ? Amplified Nation prices are high end so I wouldn’t be able to even go into his website! 😂
