It's about the fear of losing one's passion. In this case the passion for creating music. The live performance of this at the Permission to Dance concert in Las Vegas is absolutely beautiful.

Regarding the shadow: In the beginning their shadow/fear litterally towers over them (behind Suga and over RM). As the song progresses they become of equal height (Suga and the wall) and when they conquer the overwhelming part of the fear it's absorbed back into them (JK on the balcony) as they accept it as part of who they are. (That's why it's always important to watch their videos until the very end - they just looove putting in little but important details like that at the end! 😄)

Jimmy Fallon looked tired probably due to this being at the height of the pandemic, and no hair and makeup people on set, because only jimmy was on set. The week of BTS was videos they did in Korea for the broadcast. All their sets are top tier. No budgets and cutting corners. You will always get quality with BTS. This was a great week of performances.

Map of the Soul is about Carl Jung’s philosophy of self. Black Swan is part of the shadow concept. Our fears and doubts. Hence the shadows in the MV. When the audience looks at them, we see their persona (white suits). But in reality, they have these fears of losing their passion for music. That’s when it’s filmed from the stage (black suits) and it shows their hidden thoughts.

Yep, it’s Jimin who has a background in contemporary dance - he is so graceful and elegant, yet remains powerful 🤷‍♂️ This location is so beautiful - I have been to many ballet performances, and there is something very special (almost spiritual maybe) when the setting and art compliment each other so well. The song is about fearing the loss of passion, inspiration - the spark of creativity being extinguished. I think it’s a masterpiece Thanks Mike 💜💜

This video was a complete surprise. Army knew nothing about it until it dropped. I'll never forget when the notification popped up and then me and my daughter were glued to the screen until it was over. We both gasped when Jimin's wings unfurled. Such an amazing and beautiful video. 💜💜

They did training to make sure they could sing and dance at the same time. Like running and singing at the same time, sing sitting down witch is harder and other things. Idol training is legit hard and a lot of kpop artist push their bodies just as hard as athletes Big hit/hybe doesn't like using CGI if they can build a set they try to build a set over CGI RM did a lot of the writing for this song and the fear of loosing the love they have for music and art isca big fear of artist and its like death. The film set for the music video is one of my favourites and the lighting abd dancing over the other members is amazing.

i find it as an interesting touch that the mv starts looking at the scene from the audience point of view with a performer lit well and sharp and ends looking at the stage from the back with performers being just dark silhouettes like the shadows themselves. also the seats in the theater are empty which means boys are the bare themselves here facing their fears and doubts. and lights are pointed at them with one sole reason - to show their shadow. this theme also very prevalent in the Interlude: Shadow. that mv is no joke my favourite ever

They used to train on treadmills while singing in order to be able to dance and have vocal stability. Their sets are always something else.... I’m so glad that you did a reaction to Black Swan. So even though I was first introduced to them at the Billboard Music awards when they performed DNA for the first time in the US, Black Swan was actually what got me really hooked/interested in them. I was in the middle of a struggle with figuring out if I’m still passionate with what I’m doing/my career. Like you said, this was very relaxing and it actually put my mind at ease as I sorted through those thoughts and emotions. 💜💜💜

Yes...it's about a fear of them losing their passion for what they do. I don't know where the Jimmy Fallon performance was filmed....but it was during Covid and done remotely, so somewhere in Korea. Not only are their dance moves amazing, but what always stuns me is their constant smooth transitions so that whoever is singing a particular line is always central to the formation. I was at the Vegas concert and I remember wondering how they were still going full out on the choreography 2 hour in, stamina! Yes Jimin is classically trained in Contemporary dance but also in several forms of martial arts which also become part of the dance. Thanks for reacting....I always love the behind the scenes done at the same time as an MV.

This is taken from the ballet 'Swan Lake' the most popular ballet of all time. Odile is the Black Swan in the ballet and future forward the movie, 'The Black Swan' which is another rendition where there are many interpretations including BTS' interpretation.

This is one of the songs I liked more the more I listened to it. I was just talking to my cousin about the time we saw an early screening of the Black Swan movie in Chicago. That was back in 2010 when we were in college. It was pretty good from what I remember.

boys talking about Black Swan *Namjoon* : Black swan's meaning... It was written assuming 'when I can't do music anymore' & 'when I come to dislike music'. Of course, I do think at times that it might happen because, honestly, if all jobs were started as a hobby because you liked it, there are lots of instances where you come to dislike it as it becomes business or work. But now, because that music or that stage is the only thing that gives happiness, joy & moving emotion as much as it gives pain, even after feeling that pain, you come to think that you are a person who has to do that. I think it's always like that *J-Hope* : The moment I think, 'I want to do well but is this my limit?', I do think at times that I don't want to do music. But whenever I do think that, I really dislike the me who has that thought and try to overcome, win over it *Jimin* : To be honest, right now we love music, singing, and love performing, but thinking of the possibility of that no longer being fun and touching us at some point, I thought it was really gloomy and I think we tried our best to portray that gloominess

To me, "Do your thang... with me now," means, "Be the audience now, so I can be the performer." Without an audience observing, what's the use of performing? Then, "What's my thang,,,? Tell me now," is the question that runs through the mind of the performing artist. When I perform, what are you getting out of it? Or even: What kind of performance do you want? Tell me what you expect so I can give a performance you like." As artists, they can get too caught up in giving what fans want, and forget the messages they wanted to convey. On the other hand, if the fans lose interest, then the performance is purposeless. They said similar things in their latest Festa dinner, and expressed the frustration and stress of it. The fatigue of the balancing act can leave the artist so drained he can't feel the inspiration that once fueled him. But instead of giving in to the numbness and loss of focus, he can learn to see himself. He can determine to take control of his own motivation. BTS songs about struggle most often end on a hopeful note.

The black Swan event for BTS would be their "first death" if they lose their passion for making music and this would be more painful to them than their actual death. In black they are their inner fears, their shadow self which is hidden from the audience. In front of the audience they show their bright cheerful Persona so facing the audience in white. At the end of the video Jungkook watches the shadow disappear. This could represent the members accepting their shadow self, their fears, and learning to move forward because they are not losing their passion.

Grrr, that movie. The MV is based on Swan Lake the famous ballet. The movie is about the ballet too. In Swan Lake there are 2 swans one white, pure and good, the other black and evil, in many productions the same dancer plays both roles symbolizing the struggle within between light and dark. 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I only just came across your channel a day and a half ago, and have watched all your BTS videos! Wanted to say "Thank You" for what you have said about ARMY, and for the information you have provided about each MV you have seen as well. They have given me anyways more insight into the MV I've seen millions of times 😂. The fact that you take the time to make 2 different videos and break them down is AMAZING 💜 . This music video is pure art and I love getting to see Jimin dance, he is so amazing to watch. Just a heads up the MMA performance is only an instrumental/dance performance quite different from the original but definitely beautiful to watch.

Right. It was instrumental only because Suga was out recovery if from shoulder surgery and they felt as a group his role/involvement in the song was too much for them to try to replace so they did the modified dance performance to an instrumental track of the song. Beautiful song and performance. Wish they would release this version of the song. It also shows their great talent and flexibility in so many areas to be able to adapt and do this kind of performance. All other songs performances they did while Suga was recovery they didn’t modify. They left his spot open in choreography but sometimes another member did his lines, sometimes they used a vocal track for his parts.
