Thank you I'm arriving in February and have no idea how to dress. I was told the weather is similar to California. However, it can get relatively cold here in morning and evening. Thank you, I'll bring my sweatshirts and jacket.

Hi, I am here now and it’s hot! You need jacket in the mornings and after sunset but during the day is short sleeve even for me! I am always cold. However, it may rain in February, usually does for a few days. So in conclusion you need layers and a jacket. Have a great trip!

Very informative so thx! So, we've been in Lisbon for a year now and got lucky on our apartment...No mold and not super cold! Winter us definitely colder, but certainly bearable! It's June and I had packed up all my winter wear, but just tonight took out a light sweater...Go figure, but with the ocean winds it happens! I use your crystals for humidity and will use a special first coat of anti-humidity treatment before painting our new home!! Lastly, good shoes are a must...Skechers for me!!!

Tamara, great to hear from you! I dare say Lisbon is an universe in itself and I am so glad you found a cozy apartment! It adds so much at the quality of life. I understand what you are saying with the sweater, as it is very hot in the sunshine but not quite so in the evenings. We will see how the summer progresses as I understand we will have some heat waves in Spain and I guess in Portugal too.

Thank you! Do I understand correctly that in Algarve during winter the houses are still cold in the evenings? Or is that farther north?

Excellent and timely! Just yesterday we discussed living (temporarily) in PT next Jan to March to understand how the winters are like in Algarve, Lisbon and Porto. I understand last winter in PT was dry so hopefully when we arrive, we'll experience a 'normal' and wet winter. ☔ This should allow us to better judge winter conditions. Thank you so much for this topic and mentioning the device for removing humidity--didn't know they exist. Cheers.

Yes, you are quite right, this winter (2022) was quite dry and pleasant and for that reason in the house was not so much humidity and we managed very well. The other winter (2021) rained a lot and for long periods of time so we had many more problems. I think it's great you are thinking of coming in PT to spend the winter! Thank you so much for your support and comments!

I have just finished listening to your video, great information. I was planning on coming for the month of February and March not sure it is still a great idea? The plan was one month in Tavira and one month in Lagos. I live in Québec we’re it’s cold, I was hoping to have sun and at least 15 to 20 c degrees, Have been searching for the right condo to rent…… Would you have suggestions? 😊

Hi, I hope you are still coming to Portugal! I think you chose the towns perfect and it will give you an insight into both East and West Algarve. I am here now (January 2024) and during the day is hot - short sleeve hot, but in the morning especially you need a good jacket, in the evenings a sweater. In March it will be perfect! 👍

Yeah the A B C D energy ratings on homes is something homes buyers need to check , especially older properties

Hi good to see you a small log burner costing € 250 max wood is cheap will heat many rooms also 2" polystyrene fiber board insulation is very cheap and easy to fit in your attic we are probably talking about € 300 to 500 for the materials cost for a normal attic space
@AlgarveLifestyle
@AlgarveLifestyle 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David, good to hear from you! I am sure you are right and for a lot of people this is a very good solutions but for us, we don't think we could manage it - I mean the wood log burning as a source of heat. As for the insulation, for sure we will do that when we renovate.

I was surprised how cold the Mediterranean region is in Europe, especially as compared to other places with similar climates like Southern California. I don’t consider highs in the 10c to 15c very warm.

Yes, if you don’t stay in the sun is pretty cold. For example today were 12 degrees but because of the wind it felt cold. But the sun ☀️ was out all day and very pleasant to be outside.

@@terrellmiller7361 yep, I guess the Mediterranean climate label that is assigned to the west coast should be called something else. It really just means dry summers and wet winters. Also places like Italy are far more humid than places like Los Angeles, CA and Perth Australia which have very low humidity but are still called “Mediterranean climates”.

This lack of insulation thing really gets on my nerves. Same thing in Spain. Knowing that the winters are cold, why would properties not be properly insulated when they are constructed. In Mallorca, I got very sick in winter and one of my apartments was 5 degrees colder inside than outside. It was like trying to live in a freezer. Lots of dodgy agents told me that it does not get cold in winter in Mallorca and that you don´t need heating, which were blatant lies. People actually get pneumonia and end up in hospitals and that includes locals and Mallorquins. The thing is that sunshine does not necessarily mean warm weather! Dehumidifiers are also needed in Mallorca in winter. I´m a little disappointed to hear the winters are as bad in the Algarve, but glad to be aware of it!
@AlgarveLifestyle

Yes, all very true. Now in January 2023 is better but still the house must be heated.
@joca1378

I think it's a cultural thing. Winter is cold but not that cold, summer is hot but not excessive. With insulation it's the same thing, people just don't worry as much as someone from, say, Finland or Norway. So people get around with fans and portable heat devices for the few days where conditions are extreme. The rest of the time the weather is temperate hot or cold. Nevertheless, the awareness for good insulation is growing, at least here in Portugal. I think people realize they spend less on heating.

Boliqueime is one of my favorites towns in Algarve! You should definitely avoid buying online, you have to see for yourself the place and what I would do, I would go to the local real estate agency in the town (is on the main street) and ask them to show me what they have, because they are local, if somebody knows about some house that is not on the sites yet, it's them. You don't pay them anything (the sellers pay the realtors fee) so it doesn't hurt to ask them.
