Heaven for me is a place where Downton Abbey runs for _infinity_ seasons.
@cubablue6023 жыл бұрын
The first season for me was absolute perfection; the pacing, the acting, characters wonderfully built into narratives and the narratives themselves effortlessly entwining around each other, the gentle yet supreme confidence of the storytelling..I could go on and on. Masterful television.

Eventually this wonderful series will have to come to an end, but I think a prequel of how Robert and Cora met and how The Dowager Countess lived when Count Grantham was alive would be a fantastic new series. It's just a thought. I love the show and am an avid fan!

There was no Count Grantham. Robert's father was the previous Earl of Grantham. A Countess is the wife of an Earl. You can't look for logic in this system unfortunately.

Before Dan Stevens lost 35 pounds and got that chin implant
@laurenstich10494 жыл бұрын
@@mprkg What chin implant?? Do you know this as a fact? Of course, he looks entirely different than he did in Downton Abbey and even previously to that. Frankly, there was nothing wrong with his chin to begin with -- nor anything else for that matter. He was so gorgeous being at 210 lbs (he is 6 feet tall), he didn't need to change a thing. And although you have written that he got "fat" in Season 3 -- I don't agree. He was heavier, to be sure, but he was NEVER fat. And on him, he only look appealing.

@laurenstich10494 жыл бұрын
Oh, Matthew......note that when we first see Dan Stevens with his mother opening the letter from Lord Grantham -- you hear, for the first time, Alan Lunn's most gorgeous music of the entire 6-years of Downton Abbey. While many call it "Such Good Luck" or other names for it, it really is "Matthew's Theme". There is no Mary in this scene -- but it's the very first time we hear it. And when Isabel Crawley asks Matthew what Lord Grantham wants, he answers "He wants to change our lives." It is THE pivotal moment of the series.....Dan Stevens was unquestionably THE actor to play the role of Matthew Crawley. Many *could* have played it, but just look at the impact he had long after his departure. His presence was felt even in the last three seasons without him, that how much of an indelible mark he made on the series.

Aside from the truly great screenwriting by Julian Fellowes, the dynamic between ALL the characters is brilliant with many sub-stories going on at one time. And to maintain the high quality for six straight seasons is pretty special. Add very fine acting to complement the writing, add in great cinematography (see season 2, episode 8) and a lush musical score......

I guess no one else is going to say it so I will. Wait for it. Downton Abbey is one of the most poorly written series I've ever seen. But it's absurd storylines and knack for insulting the viewers intelligence is....gripping....apparently. I'll give just one example but there are no shortage of others. Mr. Grigg! The man who came waltzing on scene trying to extort money from his supposed friend, Mr. Carson after he took him food from the abbey and we're supposed to feel sorry for him when he ends up at the workhouse? C'mon! This kind of ridiculousness is what causes me to spit crackers as I'm yelling at my monitor. I could do this episode by episode, scene by scene. Here's the wait for it part. I didn't watch the series til it ended some time later. The only reason I DID start watching it is cuz I heard Maggie Smith is in it. The other actors were good but the script didn't do them justice. And Miss Maggie has had my full attention for some years as a superb actress. I honestly don't understand why this show is so popular unless people were tuning in for the same reason as myself. Don't get me wrong, there were amazing scenes and some great one-liners. And I LOVE many of the characters. They did a fantastic job. But let's be honest, the show was absurd. I watch almost exclusively period dramas so I'm not new to them. Okay, your turn. Do your best to hurt me. 😆
