That movie tried way to hard to be deeper than it actually was and the ending is just another example. If they had chosen a more philosophical approach towards this whole apocalypse thing, the ending would have probably worked, but as it was many people watched it as a popcorn flick and for that purpose, it didn’t.

I feel that this movie should have been a 10 part TV series. Part 1 - introduction of the characters and a little more backstory to them. Ends with the beginning of the apocalypse "Day zero" Part 2 - the road trip starts "Day one" Part 3 - "Day two" Part 4 - "Day three" Part 5 - "Day four" Part 6 - "Day five" Part 7 - "Day six" Part 8 - "Day seven" - the reunion of Will and Sam Part 9 - "Day eight" - Run north Part 10 - "Conclusion" - They find people who actually know what's going on. End of Season One Season Two - "After it Ends" Plot - surviving the post apocalyptic world.

I feel 8 part would've been better. They have the netflix original Troy which was 8 episodes and i feel like that was perfect, not too long not too short and i was satisfied. It couldve started day 0 and the next 7 episodes would last exactly one week with each one being a day as you said.

It wasn't the actual ending, but the last 20 minutes of the film, after the reuniting of the main character and his wife, Will and Sam respectively, and the (completely unnecessary) introduction of the OBVIOUS psycho Jeremiah, which killed the film for me. If you pay attention to what's happening in the movie's environment, it's pretty easy to piece together what happened once he reaches Seattle. Especially once you realize what's going on with the air. And Jeremiah's supposed explanation along with the way Sam acted around him immediately soured me on the entire film. It was unnecessary, and poorly written in my humble opinion. Also the "tension" of these moments felt manufactured when there was no more tension required. Honestly...it seemed to me that it was a pretty obvious attempt to stretch the narrative out over the 90 minute mark because the writer(s) were unsure of how to wrap everything up. Why, exactly, was Sam presumably sleeping with this slimy fellow when not a week ago she was so in love and so sure that Will would come for her that IN THE MIDDLE OF THE END OF THE WORLD she wrote him a fucking message on a wall in another city begging him to come for her???? Did she suddenly just decide to expel that extreme level of hope and faith overnight???? ........Why???? You could cut everything concerning Jeremiah out completely, in-point-of-fact, and miss nothing from a narrative aspect. In fact, I think it would actually make the narrative stronger. It's too bad. I'd rather have a solid and intriguing 70 minute film than a flawed 90 minute one... But I do agree with you on the mechanic character. Not only was she annoyingly averse to doing what obviously needed to be done to live, but she just decided to disappear in the night like a fart in the wind to what end? She obviously wasn't equipped to deal with the new world, she had no supplies outside of the tools she brought with her, she had no food or water, she was MILES away from another friendly or familiar face AND she ditched her only mode of locomotion...because she defended herself and was mad. GOD she was written stupidly!

I disagree, it's worth a watch. The problem with it is that the movie wants to be a disaster movie and a post-apocalypse at the same time. It does manage to have the confusion, mystery and character-centrism of the former genre, but they took a risk trying to subtly world build with the latter. In all honesty, I prefer what we got than a forced exposition dump and a shoved in happy ending. But it's one of those movies that should've been a TV series.
@jimr85524 жыл бұрын
Besides the terrible script, non-existent ending, characters that are built then completely disappear - what struck me the most was the completely hopeless characterization of the human spirit in times of genuine crisis. Perhaps years of poverty might drive people to do some of this stuff, but the storyteller actually expects you, the viewer to believe that humans will automatically prey on one another - i mean immediately - like it went from 0 to 1000 in literally a couple hours. This movie is more a statement about the storywriters lack of faith more than anything else and this haphazard all over the place script clearly demonstrates that. It has been said that the magnetic poles flipped? And this causes mysterious clouds of ??? that vaporize everything ... but only on the coast? Yea this script feels like a first draft that literally no one read first before starting production and it shows.

The Pole Shifting Apocalypse is a pretty unique take on the whole Apocalypse genre. I really liked that the writers chose this very rare cause for the world to collapse. The relationship, I felt, was actually handled pretty good between every character that had screen time. My only gripe that seems to be everyone else's is the random ending.

The magnetic poles of the earth switch. That's the Apocalypse in the movie.The magnetic poles switch every few hundred million years.And it throws the earth into chaos. This really happens on Earth.The Aurora Borealis and the birds flying around all crazy in the movie was the big clue. The ground we live on is a floating crust. Normally our are poles move real slow and a few inches per year. But something in our solar system causes are poles movement to speed up causing a lot of seismic and volcanic activity in the process. It's just my opinion but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Couldn’t have imagined any other ending for it tho. imo, apocalyptic movies can end in one of three ways: the problem gets solved and everything returns to normal (tho unrealistic), the main characters find a true safe sanctuary, or it just ends mysteriously. The third ending is technically the laziest, but unless you want a series of movies following the same 2 dimensional dude and the fiancé we barely know, it had to end the way it did

I think the problem with this movie was the trailer and the title. It should be called, "Man tries to find his pregnant wife while trying to bond with her father" And the trailer should have just shown the two meeting for the first time dinner scene.
