A lot of serial killer victims died because they were afraid to turn down offers of hospitality by the killers, or leave situations that made them uncomfortable because they thought it would be very rude. I remember one woman survived an attempted kidnapping by Ted Bundy because he asked for help by claiming his arm, in a cast, was broken. The woman found something very off about the situation, and while she felt bad, she just said, "Nah", and peaced out before he could get close enough before he could subdue her like he did with other victims.

@@Duck-mw7sfThey always do this with brown haired, brown eyed men. It's the weak Jewish man stereotype that Hollywood loves. Watch a bunch of movies and shows and you will see it everywhere. Heroes or "cool" strong characters are always blonde haired, blue eyed. Usually the heavily flawed characters are brown haired brown eyed white dudes. Either they are school bullies to be made fun of and are punching bags for the hero. Or they are the weak side kick, or the awkward hero, or the beta cuck, if they are a hero they are usually a heavily flawed dirty anti hero with a tragic back story. Brown haired brown eyed men are never portrayed as ever being strong. Think Tony Stark and Captain America. Tony Stark is a rich kid alcoholic who is a hero but only barely and has to overcome a shit ton of personal demons and makes a fool of himself most of the time. Meanwhile the "perfect aryan" Captain America just does everything perfectly and right all the time. You see it though over and over. Han Solo vs Luke Skywalker, or Ross from Friends, or Jerry from Rick and Morty. I could literally go on and on but I wont. Hollywood LOVES their stereotypes, and unfortunately brown haired brown eyed white men are just always the butt end of the joke. Even in romance movies they are always portrayed as awkward and flawed, lesser. Everyone says Hollywood is pro Jew, but if you watch any movie I don't know how you could see that because usually Jews or "jewish looking" men are always portrayed in a bad light. There is an obvious push that aryans or blonde haired blue eyed people are the true "heroes". Even if there is a good brown haired brown eyed character they are usually servants or something.

This movie pissed my whole family off. Almost all of the problems could've been solved by the husband stepping up and protecting his family in SOME capacity. He always dismissed his wife, never paid any mind to his daughter's distress and was more concerned with cozying up with a creepy stranger than heeding all the flashing red flags this man showed toward your wife and child. Of course, the wife is just as guilty bc I would've thrown a huge stink from the start when he wanted my daughter to sit BETWEEN HIS LEGS and drive off with her in a foreign country. There would be no horror story bc I would've never let it get that far. But the biggest thing I've taken from this movie is that the husband NEVER had his wife's back. She was wrong for cheating, but you chose to stay so move forward and step up. I don't condone her behavior but I understand why she was sexting someone else after being married to a limp-lily, yellow-bellied, entitled man-child who only knows how to get his way and when he doesn't he just shuts down. She gave up everything for him and in the last LIFE OR DEATH moments, he couldn't even kill the man who tried to kill him and his wife and kidnap and violate his DAUGHTER. He failed them at every opportunity.

Thats the point of the movie, the husband is portrayed as incompetent and cowardly lacking masculinity. That's what gets them killed in the original and what gives the line "Because you let us" so much weight. The whole appeal of this is lost in the remake, which is castrated, much like the husband. People are treating the original like the ending is a major flaw, but it's a thriller, it's not supposed to give you satisfaction or relief.
@hhjhj3932 ай бұрын
The whole point of this movie is that the husband is a cuck. I saw that immediately. Brown haired, brown eyed white dudes are almost always portrayed as cucks. It took the strong blonde haired, blue eyed woman to step in and save the day! That aside I do agree with the message of the movie. This whole movies message is, "hey, don't be a beta male cuck, stand up for yourself and your family". I honestly was expecting a full on cuck scene where the bad guy was gonna fuck his wife lol. Like when they have the whole BJ scene at the dinner I thought the dude was gonna invite his wife to join or something. Yeah, this whole movie is, reasons why you shouldn't be a cuck 101.

A lot of young white men need to hear the message, "hey don't be a cuck, you don't have to be overly polite to people, stand up for yourself". Also there is a message or predator and prey. The husband wasn't able to kill the fox. The dude tested the husband to confirm he was prey. The other dude even said, "you like to play with your prey". The scene that made me realize was when the protagonist family sneaks out overnight but then realizes they left the daughter's stuffed animal back at the house and the dad decides to turn around and go back. The frustration i felt during that scene in the new one sparked my memory of being just as frustrated when that scene happens in the original.

He'd stolen the keys to the dungeon in Paddy's sleep and now needed to get it back on his back belt loop. Since he'd returned to Paddy awake and sitting up, the only natural way to get behind him again and make any sudden movements seem normal was to gesture that he wanted a piggy back. Me and my wife watched this and we said the following: 1-We don't get buddy buddy with people, let alone if we were traveling abroad 2-We're easily annoyed by people who try to intrude in our space 3-Patty would have been punched in the face, I'm a very watchful personal who reads people myself and I've never been wrong. I told my wife last night when we went out to eat at a restaurant that one staff member liked another based off a brief interaction we saw. 15 mins later my wife caught the one flirting with the ones I said she liked and said "What the hell you were right!!?" and we were laughing about it. I grew up in an environment where knowing stuff like this was needed. 4-We would not take the couples info let alone give them ours to invite us to stay with them 5-The daughter is a brat, I have 2 young nephews, 1 and a half, 8 and a daughter whose 16, I dare one of them to kick my chair in frustration. We don't play that in our family, great grandma's and grand dads down to siblings, aunts, uncles etc. 6-The husband is weak as hell in this movie and it annoyed me 7-The wife has an issue with knowing boundaries and her position but that's mostly due to the weakness of the husband (ie oversharing her husband is lucky to get sex once a month to strangers) 8-The wife was putting in major work. She sliced Patty's face, hammered the other guy, bopped the crazy gf/wife in the head with a brick, threw acid on Patty, Stabbed Patty's hand when he tried to get through the door to her.
@hhjhj3932 ай бұрын
Sounds like this movie worked as intended! This whole movie is obviously designed to get couples like you to get your shit together and have ground rules! I think this movie is wonderful because of that. This movie gets families to take this shit more seriously. The parents had no communication, no rules, the woman had no trust or respect for the man, and the man had no trust for his wife, the man had no capabilities as a man to stand up for himself, he was deeply insecure and his wife only added onto that. The man was unable to set his foot down on anything. He could've easily told his daughter that he wasn't going back for the doll and that she would have to just deal with it. I am not Christian, but it's so obvious why there is a Christian family structure. Families have to have rules to survive. You can't constantly be second guessing each other, you have to have rules, you have to have a plan, strategies and you have to stick to them. Also as a man you should never put yourself or your family into a position of weakness. All of these things added up to this, this should be taught in school like, "family 101". The children should obey the parents. The wife should obey the husband, the husband should not be a weak beta cuck. The wife and children should communicate with the father and the father should always act in his families best interests. By doing this everyone should work as a team, they should have plans on how to conduct themselves.

I don't watch The Morning Show, but that female host at 5:28 looking absolutely disgusted at Mackenzie Davis' advice to leave a situation you're uncomfortable with and shaking her head as if such a thing were absolutely unimaginable to her shows just how hard it is for some people to just "nope" out of a potentially dangerous situation simply because it could be considered a small social faux pas. I don't think I've ever seen a more visceral, nearly unconscious reaction to a hypothetical situation where all you have to do is say "no". And I'm genuinely not sure how to feel about that. I think Aubrey Plaza should give a masterclass on how to find comfort in being socially awkward for your own benefit and the power of the word "no".

I saw the original a few months ago, loved it. I wanted to dismiss you this version as another terrible American remake, but it wasn't. It's a good movie and McAvoy is great in it. I still like the original more, but these two movies are so different on the end, it's hard to say it's a remake and compare them. I was frustrated at how inept they made the father though. Even after shit hit the fan and he needs to protect his family because its literally life or death, he cries like a child about not knowing what to do and then hides. Even when he fights, he needs his wife to save him. I don't really understand why they chose to make him so weak.

@carlyrios82973 ай бұрын
I suppose that's his character flaw as his wife was cheating on him and they go on the trip to help their relationship. She wasn't happy and in a way they are showing why that is. His wife probably always had to be the strong one taking on masculine energy because her partner lacked alot of those qualities.
@sVieira1513 ай бұрын
I find it weird how you cannot understand why he's weak after watching a movie that shows you he's weak at just about every turn. He's weak for the same reason the Dad in the original is overly passive, even at the ending
@arthursummers78993 ай бұрын
@@sVieira151 No. In the orignal they are both passive and put up minimal fight. They both made stupid decisions all throughout. In this version, the mom fights back at the point where it is clear they are in danger. The man never does. He watches her do everything and does very little to help. She frees them in the shed and grabs the gun. She fights off McAvoy when he tries to get in the room she is in. He attempts to fight the chef, but needs her to help him. The only brave thing he does is sacrifice his body to get the ladder. But still, at the end the daughter and the little boy kill the man. The father still does very little. He remains weak, even in front of the children, everyone else fights back. That isn't the same as the original, at all.
@sVieira1513 ай бұрын
@@arthursummers7899 yes, I wasn't talking about the woman though. I was talking about the man. In the original the mum also puts up a fight but too late in the car, though she is defeated as the daughter is taken away - and he constantly talks over her and for her throughout the movie. I don't like this ending because it discards the social commentary for a typical horror movie ending, and I can see why folk get catharsis out of it. In UK or USA culture I think it's realistic to see the woman behaving like that (especially due to the culture of final girls in horror). the wife is also partially to blame as if she had spoken up or was active earlier in their marriage they would no longer be together and would not have gone on this trip. Anyway, I don't necessarily think it's making a point on men and women in general - they both still contribute to the shitshow in both versions. It's making a point about specific kinds of people and the ending takes away from it imo

So I just saw the remake last night and the original today. I prefer the remake, maybe it is the bias and advantage of seeing it first. But either way I thought James McAvoy was far more entertaining and compelling to watch then anyone in either version and Mackenzie Davis was doing a good job too. That's not to try him shut down the cast of the original flick either. Everybody is still doing a good job and it's more subtle there but I still end up more captivated by McAvoy And I think part of what works about his version of the character, is that he is so compelling and charismatic alongside being a creep that I can kind of forgive the main characters for continuing to be suckered in by him and not just leaving. Even if going back for the bunny is still not reasonable in either scenario The remake definitely isn't as ballsy. But I just felt more tension in that version. I still believed at any given moment any of the main cast were in danger. So I was engaged from start to finish. And when the movie finished I didn't have to sit in the bleak feeling that the original makes you sit with at the end lol I liked how there was just a little bit more characterization as to what was going on with The killer couple there, not that it's necessarily needed, but I did think it added to My investment in the story as it was playing out And it just seemed a bit more believable. I have a hard time believing anyone would really roll over and surrender the way the couple in the original version does. But I think both were effective horror thrillers. And I don't know that one movie is better than the other, they're just a little bit of a different flavor of the same concept. The original has a lot more terrifying imagery and soundtrack. And I think the remake has much more captivating performances

The movie was soooooooooooo good in the first 2/3 where all the focus is just the difference between the families and the tension. That was the actual nightmare and what scared me the most. The reactions also felt very real. The 3 act is where things all fall apart and brought down the entire film. The whole movie would be ten times better if it doesn't ever try to be a horror film and just ditch the 3 act completely.

While I know this is just a movie, and a scary one at that, the U.S. is currently facing a loneliness epidemic. It’s not unusual these days for people to invite you over just to connect and communicate. In fact, with so many feeling isolated post-COVID, it’s more important than ever to reach out and build those connections. Yes, there are toxic individuals in the world, and it’s crucial to recognize and call them out. But we shouldn’t let toxic people stop us from connecting with those who genuinely care about our well-being. Some people can even play the victim card in a toxic way, which is something to be aware of as well. Ultimately, though, if we want to thrive, we need each other. While it's important to stay cautious when meeting new people, it’s equally important to remember that we survive and grow as a community. Offering a helping hand and fostering real connections is how we’ll make it through together.

From what I know of the movie (haven’t seen it yet)-they had the opportunity to extricate themselves and then didn’t. Socialization is so poor these days most people are all or nothing-trust completely and hope it goes well or just avoid it altogether. Social skills involve knowing how to recognize when things are not right and to correct and remove yourself quickly and without causing blow back. Then you don’t have to be afraid of getting. Yourself in a bad situation because you know you won’t let it get too bad before you shut things down.
