The only places where they require gloves are usually usda certified because it falls under HACCP protocol (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points). Its what also requires things such as metal detectors to be used. So if the product says "usda certified" you can guarantee it's been handled with gloves and put through a metal detector. Its a crap shoot with all else but if they're still in business they probably still follow a similar protocol

Studies have been done that show that employees who wear gloves in food preparation areas are actually much more likely to cause cross-contimation problems than ungloved colleagues, as those with gloves on instinctively feel more hygienic and forget what the gloves they are wearing have already touched etc. Gloves are actually a hygiene risk unless you change the gloves at least at every point where you would otherwise have washed your hands.

I worked at a Whole Foods and I kid you not, an employee went to the bathroom with his gloves, peed, and went back to stocking product with the same pair of gloves. If you’re bare handed you’ll actually feel dirty and therefore wash more frequently. Bare hands are cleaner than gloves.
