I believe the metering pin is not meant to change the amount of fluid that contacts the air, but rather changes the orifice area thereby changing the damping properties of the oil. The smaller the cross-sectional area that the oil is being forced through, the higher the dampening force. The pin typically acts to increase the damping force during compression since the velocities are being reduced.

Thanks for trying to show how it works. Suggested improvement would have been to show/illustrate the oil flow path instead of clouds of liquids and location of the seals.

Metering pin it restricted flow of fluids from lower cylinder to upper cylinder it has restricted orifices if suddenly hydraulic fluid goes it can damage during landing or ground I think to prevent metering pin is used
