If you would just cut a trench in the soles before sewing, you wouldn’t have to worry about the stitches busting in a couple weeks after normal wear and tear. It would also negate the use of the screws. They look like an afterthought, or a compromise. You wouldn’t think this would be an issue on a pair of boots that cost so much.

@@DadCore not this style. I had a pair of OT’s. They were the only ones I found that didn’t have the concave grind on the heel block that makes them look like a pair of stilettos.

The stitching that wears out on the bottom of the sole is negligible. The thread that’s doing the retention is still wedged inside of the sole. The screws are there in case the glue were to fail in an extremely hot environment. It’s not an “issue”. It’s a secondary and tertiary method of making sure that sole stays on for extreme use jobs like Wildland firefighting. That’s why all the PNW boot makers use this method. It’s damn near indestructible.

*When the nails are hammered through the leather materials, they hit that metal plate on the last. The ends of the nails curl into themselves, similar to the letter "J" shape. They curl back into themselves into the leather materials. That way, it allows them to remove the lasts. That metal plate is already attached to the lasts. They come manufactured that way.* *They don't make the lasts. I know I've seen them modify them in a different video. They do this in order to make a better fitted pair of boots for the customer.*

We do have Met-guards in our 'Custom Ironhide' Boots. We don't make a hunting boot, but we do use thinsulate in our Arctic boots for insulation!

Hi JK, i got a question. Is it possible to have the gusset of the boot in the same color as the leather with bison leather? Im interested in a custom ot/forefront in canyon bison, but woulnt like a black gusset with that. I dont see the option to change the color sadly, but would be a real dealbreaker for me

Thanks for the question! We have three gusset colors, black and brown and grey, they are determined by the color of the leather, darker colors get black, brown most lighter colors and grey on the grey boots. Canyon bison has the brown gusset. However do take note that the brown is more dark grayish brown on the smooth side and the rough out is brown. Does the toe cap support the structure of that area? I've always had terrible issues of the toe box curling up, and getting permanent creases that dig into my toes. Lace to toe solves this problem, but, I like this look way better if it accomplishes the same thing.

*Yes. It's supposed to keep the toe area in that shape. Because without a toe cap, the shape won't keep much after awhile. It depends on how much wear they get. So toe caps are great to 😊have! Lace to toe also helps additionally.*

We add a last to the boot that stops any nails from going through! You will be able to see a 'last' at 11:30 . This gets put into the boot and is the form that the boot is shaped around. The last has a metal plate on the footbed that bends the nails backwards into the boot. This is called "clinching" the nails. So the Super duty comes with a leather shank and the climber comes with a leather and steel shank? I’m an apprentice lineman and these boots are just absolutely awesome. But a leather shank probably wouldn’t cut it. Need steel
