Ashlinn Ogorman you have no idea what climate change means. It’s not saying that the climate just started changing. It’s that we’ve influenced the climate in a negative way. If you’re gonna argue against it don’t spew the same bullshit that’s been debunked millions of times. You’re the same as a religious person making the same dumbass arguments over and over. The problem with Rogan is that he has these different people with wildly different political viewpoints and he appears to agree with whoever he happens to be talking to at any given time. Like the many times he's had Micheal Wood on his show, and ex Baltimore policeman. Wood very articulatelely explained how they systematically policed that city based on racial and economic lines. Joe listened with intent and astonishment. A while later he had some other guy on who trashes the BLM and espoused the "one bad apple" theory and Joe appeared to completely agree with him.

Thank you for addressing this. I've felt this way for a long time. I've listened to JRE since before it even had 200 episodes and I've seen him be manipulated by pseudo-intellectuals overtime. He's always so humbly claiming "I'm dumb; I don't know anything" which allows anyone with an education to make wildly bold claims on his podcast unchallenged. He's so critical and skeptical when it comes to martial arts because he has such a deep knowledge of it but rarely applies that critical thought and skepticism elsewhere. I think a big problem is he gives a lot of credit to anyone with a college degree.

@@NickajackP Joe Rogen just gets less and less aware of working class issues the longer he has been really rich. He didn't even understand that the stimulus checks were not only for people who lost their jobs because of the pandemic, it was for everyone under a certain income level. Though, it was seized for anyone who owed the government money or owed child support regardless of the specifics. So, a lot of homeless people didn't get anything. Rogan argued that if you didn't lose your job *because* of the pandemic, you shouldn't get the aid. What drives people to the right is the insanity of the left. I think a lot of you leftist specifically you white liberals and Young Folks don't understand is that your views are so damn extreme. In your eyes is normal but in the eyes of many it is not normal and it is way over-the-top. So if you're going to reach a group of people who consider themselves to be in the center politically you're not going to reach them by being condescending and vile and vicious to them. As a progressive, I really loved Joe Rogan's show and still listen occasionally. I enjoyed that he brought on people to have civil discussions that I wouldn't otherwise hear from on the other progressive shows I watch. I get burned out from the divisiveness and there is something nice about two people who maybe have very different views basically just hanging out and sometimes getting into a debate. Having said that, I still feel embarrassed for not knowing just how damaging and ridiculous Jordan Peterson's views were, having only heard mention of his name with disdain without the context of why, and being fully introduced to him while listening to Rogan's show. I was a Jordan Peterson apologist for far longer than I care to admit. Shows me to not look deeper into exactly why so many people fiercely disagree with him and to instead feel sympathetic to his feeling victimized and misunderstood. I do think as likable as Joe is and as comfortable as he makes his guests feel, it would be great if he put more research into who he brings on and challenged them more on their beliefs. He did go after Jordan for his craziest shit, I'll give him credit, but it is harmful to allow so many damaging thoughts to go unchallenged, especially if that might be your audience's first or only introduction to them.
@JustChadC
@JustChadC 4 жыл бұрын
But you don’t have to challenge anybody. Just cause you have a guest on doesn’t mean every time someone is different than you, via opinion, doesn’t mean you have to challenge them. Sometimes, sometimes you just want to listen and learn what that point is. I think the problem the left has ya that they always want to fight but you could also argue the right has the same problem. At that point right there where you’re saying Joe should be more antagonistic towards “problematic” let’s opinions of guests, there’s not really a point to debating because some won’t debate. Some people don’t want to; they just want to win. They do not want to learn. It’s not his responsibility. You as a viewer have to have your own responsibility to learn for yourself. That’s a really lazy way to look at things because yeah it’s easy to take one video, and summarize someone’s entire believe system. We’re all human we all do that because we’re lazy, but to say now it’s his responsibility to challenge an opinion is bullshit. It’s up to you to do your own research.

With this in mind, I can't say that Joe is trying to promote the ideas or even the people, rather, he seems to be attempting to bridge a gap.

I used to listen to Joe semi-religiously. The problem is Joe responded to the rise of SJWs in the worst way possible (this assuming that others would agree they are a problem, the left overall is doomed if they don't). He overcorrected too much by swinging way right. He did have some rational voices on, but then it just devolved into people like Crowder, Alex Jones for fucks sake, people that literally believe Flat Earth, and a higher than usual amount of UFC dudes. It's his show, he can have whoever the fuck he wants on, but it is definitely not as enriching as it once was.

Crazy Cat Well first of all, it’s very clear to me that Peterson is a self-serving opportunist who presents himself as an intellectual, so he can keep making that $50k+ a month on donations. Secondly, he got famous after refusing to call people by their preferred pronouns. I really don’t have a problem with people refusing to do that, although I think they’re idiots, but that’s what made him famous among conservative circles. It speaks volumes when the thing you got famous for is being a little bitch who’s offended by what other people want to call themselves. Sam Harris is a total hack because he goes after one religion harder than the others, when he knows basically nothing about it. I respect Peterson more when it comes to this issue, because he actually knows that he can’t really talk about Islam because first of all, he needs to learn more about it, which he said he’s been doing for 3 years and is still. And secondly, he understands that it’s not his culture, and that he’s not close enough to it to be able to talk about it. Sam Harris, on the other hand, is nothing but an apologist for the right wing government of Israel. He knows nothing about the life of regular Muslims around the world, and how they differ from each other. I’m not even sure he knows there are different branches of Islam, just like with Christianity and many other religions. He’s a sad pseudo-intellectual who thinks he’s smart because he can weave simple ideas into complicated and abstract thoughts, and uses big words while doing it. In this they two of them are alike. This is the reason Plato hated sophists. That’s because they don’t care if they’re doing the right thing, as long as they can make the argument for the side that’s paying them more, they’re fine with it.

I'm a Joe Rogan fan and a center left libertarian (according to political compass tests). Like anything, there are unreasonable fans and reasonable ones. Honestly a great show. I recommend the Paul Stamets, Brett Weinstein, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Elon Musk, and those conservation biologists talking about chronic wasting disease. Always saw Joe as more left wing. He is pro weed, enjoys psychedelics, anti-discriminatory, pro gay marriage, pro-choice, believes in the evidence behind climate change, supports universal basic income, anti-raciest, has said he thinks put anybody in another persons body with their raising they would be the same person, believes in some forms of gun control. Right wing biases he would have would be that he does enjoy hunting, considers some people weak and talks about alpha male allot, is skeptical of islam. He just opens up the discussion and listens, also asks the right questions. He has his biases like anyone else, but the reason I found it so interesting to listen to other than when he talks to various scientists, is that I, among others are tired of having the opposing view point to our own just painted as this person is a dummy and invalid, and it is interesting to have left wing biases exposed as they are harder to see. Right wing biases tend to be clean as day. I'd rather watch a discussion or have someone that makes me consider my own view points, than someone who just says "oh, the right is evil, don't let them talk". I disagree with Ben Shapiro on almost everything, but enjoy watching because it helps me craft better points that support my own opinion or to reconsider. He can be annoying but if you want to censor someone like that, maybe your just afraid to have to think, or that your wrong. If having a seed of another idea implanted is a "gateway" to the right, maybe that person is just right-wing and has a different view point? I got friends from all over the political spectrum. Makes life interesting and makes you actually have to think, rather than just surrounding yourself in an echo chamber that states the other side is always wrong because of greed, stupidity, etc. Also kind of makes you hate all politicians and ideologues. There is far more to life than politics, and there is actually different brain structures which can make people lean left or right. You can hate ideas, but you shouldn't hate people just for having those ideas, unless it causes them to be assholes. I have some Muslim and Christian friends but think that their religions are some of the worst ideas on the planet. Also some of you should consider trying some psychedelics. Current research shows that many people consider their experience more significant than their wedding day or the day their kid was born. They are pretty damn safe according to Harvard, MAPS, and Johns Hopkins, with long lasting positive effects, and there is more to life. Frankly everyone should do magic mushrooms and DMT at least once in their life, maybe near the end. It would get rid of anxiety associated with death, increase openness, potentially lower crime, less addiction to substances and actions, and get people to live their lives with more meaning and less malevolence.

Man a completely reasonable comment and I share your feeling exactly. I started listening to Rogan about 2010 because of his thoughts on psychedelics and bettering yourself. Never once have I gotten a right wing vibe. In fact he is left of center as far as I can tell. I mean you said it most of his beliefs are left except for maybe hunting. He is a big opponent of censorship because he is a comedian and it seems that some lefties dont want to even have a conversation with certain people. Dude I would listen to a 3 hour podcast with an alt right guest or a far left guest. I want to listen to what people think. Its fascinating even when I may not agree.

I think Joe Rogan is genuine in the way he choses his guests and he's not necessarily trying to push a right wing agenda. Seder, like most of us, came from the post-60's generation where the cultural paradigm has been an academic, secular left minority beating up on bafoonish and cartoonish characters on the majority right. This has, in many respects, become a bit staid. The left won the culture war. It's now running into many of the same problems the social right had when it dominated culture. Rogan is your classic contrarian. He's always looking for something that goes a bit against the grain. And today, that's the emergence of a new breed of comparatively effective critics of the left like Jordan Peterson, et. al. Coming on and saying "sexism is bad" is now the "sex out of wedlock is a sin". It's what we've all heard our whole lives. Left wing morality is now mainstream. The right was forced into retreat and it has become stronger as a result. It is therefore more interesting to viewers to hear something that is comparatively effective at breaking down the contemporary narratives of the day and which contradict many of the things they've been hearing. So it makes sense that Rogan is focusing on right wingers - namely because it's filling an obvious demand for a new "counter-culture".

I think he's right on point and has written many books that correctly predicted the direction of our country. Maybe i just heard one too many of his debates with right wingers. I don't know if you ever listen to his RT show, but every show he debates the most insufferable shills and it started to drive me nuts. It's not the right format for sure. Sam and Joe both do long form open ended formats so it fits.

I’ve seen this clip before, it’s been played all over the news. What crowder did was awful and pathetic, racist if you hear the music they play in the background. And the last part was disgusting. Now, why he wasn’t confronted about this, idk. Can’t throw everyone on the same bag tho.

Really? In the worst way imaginable? That's not exaggerating even a little bit? This is why you are not going on Joe Rogan, Dave Rubin or Sam Harris shows. Keep preaching to the choir and demonizing anyone attempting dialogue.

Your authoritarian thinking is what got US into this mess. What gives you or Sam Seder the right to be the thought police? There are people like Sam Harris, Peterson and Joe who are trying to have a dialogue with both sides to de-escalate the situation. You and people who think like Sam Seder are the problem. If you think censorship is the answer to the rise of the alt right you are more dangerous than the alt right and a much bigger enemy of liberalism.
@daturave
@daturave 6 жыл бұрын
What the hell are you talking about? What censorship? The fact that Rogan presents himself (and his program) in an untruthful way suggesting that he is "objective" and unbiased? Even that ain't censorship. Plain and simple fact is that the "leftists" are a clear minority compared to alt-right loonies on his show. And Jordan "social structuralism doesn't affect anyone adversely, but is the most dangerous thing" Peterson. There is a reason why he has about 0 respect inside academia. Authoritarian?? Maybe you should check the cool sounding words in a dictionary before blasting them onto internetz :D

I don't know if hes doing more harm than good or not but I appreciate the fact that he understands that he's not an expert. Joe didnt used to be that way. Joe learned from being embarrassed a few times that when you take a hard stance on something that you really dont know about you end up looking stupid. I actually wish more people could be like that. I'm way more irritated with how everyone thinks they're an expert on everything and nobody is really listening to the other side of what they want to believe.

Everybody just calm down. Rogan had Tusli Gabbard on his show for an hour and a half and told her she was great and has his vote. He is not right wing. People, as progressives, not everybody is out to get us. Some people just want to have multiple voices and different view points heard on their show. It's not that strange of a concept. Joe Rogan is more on our side than theirs and as the man with the biggest platform in America right now, it would be in our best interest to treat him as an ally rather than an enemy.

As far as policy goes, Rogan generally left-wing. However, the problem is that too many people care more about culture than policies these days. And in terms of this stupid culture war that's going on, Rogan definitely has some conservative tendencies. Which is why he engages in all the 'Antifa gender theorists really hate facts and logic, bro'. And, intentionally or not, pushing conservative ideas in the realm of culture does help advance their political agenda to an extent.

I love that Joe brings on every type of person. However, I would like it and do when he does, if he questioned them a bit, face to face, when he has a disagreement. Instead, most of the time he disagrees with them in a show later. I understand he's trying to be open minded, but some people just need to be hit with facts or common sense. Joe doesn't always go that route.

I've been a fan of Rogan since news radio. He's turning into a nationalist old white guy, surprise surprise. The kind that only wants to be surrounded by like-minded and like-looking people. And he's surrounding himself by the likes of Alex Jones and this guy. He has these people on, wholey unprepared to debate them. So it turns into just a platform for them, with Jo not disputing much because he's too damn high to even understand what these guys are saying. And he thinks the shit is just entertaining. It has consequences for people like me, a Native American. Thanks Jo.

April rich Me too, April. My mom is Creek, so that side survived the Trail of Tears, considering I'm from Oklahoma originally. I can't say I grew up with the Native American experience I saw with some of my friends, though, because I'm more Euro. But in Oklahoma we cannot help but be conscious of what has happened to our Native sisters and brothers. I'm also gay, and that's where these sociopathic xenophobes really get me. They do their best to dehumanize anyone different from themselves. What I saw in this clip were people with families who were worried about how they were going to keep their apartment or feed their children. Crowder doesn't even have that ability.

chrishdk I think April means that simply platforming xenophobe jerks like Crowder is harmful, but if you say he truly exposes them for dehumanizing others, that's a good thing. You know, there was a news story not long ago of some racist snots like Steven Crowder yelling at a Native American man to "go home." It doesn't get any more ironic than that.

The tyt debate with harris dropped me off the harris deal. The part when he talked about racial profiling and he couldnt understand a how suspicious it is for a white family with little children visitting Afghanistan is suspicious as all hell and that smugglers usually hide things in baby bags if not directly on the baby's person and he felt uncomfortable when it got down at crying white children.

I think Rogan described himself in the past as libertarian since he voted for Gary Johnson, but now he might consider himself libertarian-left or independent. He likes Andrew Yang, he likes Cornel West, Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard, among others. Maybe he's trying too hard to play nice and/or he's trying not to alienate anyone who might want to be on his show, from any perspective. He's also educating himself on issues along with his voters, and he's been doing his homework more lately. To paraphrase what one youtube commenter said about his Bernie interview vid from another progressive podcaster's Rogan/Bernie recap vid, he's done more for the progressive movement than all of MSM combined.

His opinion pretty much changes dependent on which guest he has on and how persuasive they are. People like Crowder and Shapiro can convince him things that Candace Owens can’t. IMO, the problem is that many people have the concept of “listening to both sides”... on the assumption that either side may equally be true. And, at the very outset, this places both sides on the same level. But, in reality, there is often a debate between approximate truth/facts vs. wacko/delusional/unproven speculation. Example would be evolution vs creationism; flat earth vs round earth; widespread voting fraud vs court decisions; Russian innocence vs intelligence agency assertion of widespread nefarious Russian hacking. By putting these issues on the same level of debate... either side seems like it might be equally true.
