John Woo's Hong Kong films are legendary. A Better Tomorrow 1 & 2, The Killer, Bullet In The Head, and Hard Boiled are all masterpieces of action cinema.

"Face/Off" is truly the best Hollywood movie that John Woo directed, and I might add "Silent Night" as well, since that it's a welcoming return for Woo in Hollywood. 💯

@@JoeBuck207 not even close. The Killer or Bullet in the Head. Then there's about 5 other films that are superior to hard target even then.

The comparison with Musicals is spot-on!

Now I fully understand the direction John Woo is heading as he wanted to go grounded and realistic route and kept the story simple in order to incorporate visual storytelling without dialogue…..props to John Woo for taking such risk….

You never seen his work in Hong Kong then. No director has EVER had a run of films like Woo did in the 80s. He's easily top 5 greatest directors of all time. His work in the US sucks for sure though.

@@investinfastudiosPretty sad how John Woo was copied by everyone for like 20 years and influenced directors like Tarantino and Edgar Wright and Stahelski, but eventually forgotten and now some like this foolish newbie here will just judge him by his worst movie without ever knowing what they're missing out on.

@@YusMat700 Agree. To a certain extent, he has a bit of an excuse. Alot of Hong Kong Cinema is not on these streaming platforms. Which is terrible. I recently was on a Wong Kar Wai binge. I had only seen Fallen Angels (it's most like a John Woo Movie) so I decided to watch his other films and the only place they were was Amazon for rent. It's even worse for John Woo. I think only Hard Boiled ever gets love. And though I love that film, I think Woos other films are superior (Bullet in the Head, The Killer, ABT).
