The point in not having the yellow jersey that early in the tour is not because of media. It’s because your team hast to put in a lot of effort to keep on pacing the peloton to protect the GC lead. However, regarding your statement, Adam (his teammate) took the jersey so they still had to pace and Pogi held the young riders jersey from day one and had to attend on the podium after each race anyways
@TrueSportsLore

The pacing on the front is an optional choice you can choose not to do, the media obligations are obligatory otherwise you face fines. It's a bit of a funny one in professional cycling, many things are done because of traditions and not always because it makes sense.

I disagree with this analysis: 1. Ice bath is not like a helicopter ride. It’s not that big of a privilege. 2. Jonas spent most of the past 12 months training for the tour, with him completely going under the radar for the second half of 2022. He only did a few races in 2023, mainly to compete with Pogacar. 3. Pogacar did a few races throughout the last 12 months. 4. Jonas trained A LOT for this specific time trial. You could see it in the way he took the turns and cycled in the descent. 5. I think JV’s strategy was for Jonas to ride defensively while staying on Pogacar’s wheel, while he went on attacks. So Pogi would crack on the third week while underestimating the fighting spirit of his main opponent. That’s my take on things

Vingegaard built an incredible self believe after the win in 22. His team played a huge part on his win in the last tour, but this year he was just flat out stronger than anyone else. He was so strong and so confident, in ways that started to affect pogi's psychologically. Everytime pogačar attacked, Jonas never broke down completely, in stages that favored pogačar. This was a massive boost to vingegaard mental capacity that was already super strong at the start of this tour. By trying everything to Crack vingegaard and never quite succeeded, pogi broke down himself with mental fatigue, which reached a major high point on the trial before the queen stage. More importantly than than the physical preparation, pogačar needs to rebuild himself mentally, prepare himself to endure different challanges throughout the tour and adapt himself to vingegaard's and jumbo's strenghs.

What most people tend to neglect is how well TJV and JV have planned the whole Tour. A GT isn't normally won by gaining a few seconds here and there but by sticking to the plan that fits yourself the best. Before going into this years Tour, JV had two stages in mind that could bring him the title: the ITT and the stage after. JV executed the time trial by attacking every corner and every part of the relatively short stage. He has beaten Pogacar in an ITT before - last year he stopped pedalling to secure WVA the victory, so yes, he knows his TT bike. The stage after, he felt was one that was best suited for his capabilities, and that should be hard to beat Pogacar - which he did by several minutes. At the end of the day, it appears that TJV and JV only planned their Tour better, and regardless how things went in week 1 and 2. Keep in mind (also Pogacar!) a GT lasts 3 weeks.

@Jan-se1nd
@Jan-se1nd 9 ай бұрын
@@dylangrantz8124 Well, context is, well context. Vingegaard came 22nd in the 2019 Danish Champs after coming back from an injury (broken arm, I think) -- a theme in his junior and early senior years after he fractured his femur which rendered all of 2017 more or less a recovery year. And if you look at the years after 2019 you can see he more or less improved his TT skills for each TT as he gained access to better material, coaching, nutrition and he got his anxiety more under control after he and Trine became a couple. That is a part of his development that is key, by the way. Van Poppel once told the story of how he threw up in the bus before his first pro race for Jumbo in 2019; the same reason he lost his 1st place in GC in the Tour Of Pologne in 2019. He won the queen stage and then couldn't sleep the night after. He lost almost 15 minutes on the following stage Now, I know there's nothing I can say that'll temper your opinion of Vingegaard, so I'll just say that there are countless people with more insight into aero and TTs in general than I'll ever have. I also know you've either discounted their arguments/analyses or perhaps more likely have stepped over them on your way to judgement. Either way, I don't really care. The point I'm making, though, is that there were multiple signs of his TT skills and of his career accent. From his vo2max measured as a junior, his climbing of Alpe D'Huez at 16, his record on Coll de Rates when he rode for ColoQuick, the fact he's beaten Pogacar in GT TTs more times than he's come second. His ridiculous aero position while pushing high watts, how dialed in and risk willing he is on TTs (remember last year's TT in the Tour?), the fact he rides best in week 3 TTs where the likes of WvA always drops more watts because of fatigue and so on and so on. But it's great to hear you're attempting to employ your brain -- you know what they say, practise makes perfect. And all though you might have to practise a lot, do keep at it.

So I think we can say that, he has something a good of an idea, what to do and how to do it. I mean he put more than 1m onto WVA's ITT run, who is a beast, but Jonas was just stronger than any human being on Earth. Also it is not mentioned , that he crashed and injured seriously on Liege-Bastogne-Liege, which hold him off the bike for 1,5 months in the key time for training for the TdF. You know, that can be a bit of a factor on the third week...

I disagree with the reasoning for why the yellow jersey is tiring to wear. Waiting and media is such a small factor and the front runners do it all the time anyways. It’s the fact that you have to cover and control all the other closer contenders. You have a target on your back.

TJV planned this to the detail (especially the TT) their strategy was to lead the peloton with high tempo and controle the pace while wearing Pogacar out going uphill into the mountains and protecting Jonas from using to much energy during the stages.
@marianorivera3272
@marianorivera3272 9 ай бұрын
Wasn't that also the Sky strategy back when they were completely dominating with Froome ? They set the highest pace they knew they could theoretically handle and a lot of attacks from other riders were simply ignored because they knew that the power output needed for a successful attack wasn't sustainable and they'd break (They were correct). Then Froome attacked at an advantageous moment/stage to break the race open with an insurmountable lead.

The problem is that Tadej loves to attack, which is good and makes the race interesting but he wastes a lot of energy doing so and sprinting for minor things. Of course sprinting for bonus seconds can be important but i feel he does things like that way too often. If he would be more conservative but when he goes then he goes he would have more success. Secondly, putting in so huge attacks puts a lot of strain on your body and even just doing this for seconds will make it more difficult for you to recover. You might get a gap on your opponent but after the attack you need to maintain a certain speed, this is the difficult part, and mostly leads to the chaser getting back on.
