I'm a special needs bus driver and one of the preschool kids on my bus is named Jude. I've sung it to him a few times and he at 3 years old said "don't sing that, that's what my mom sings. And I haven't seen her. It makes me sad." I found out she left him because she does drugs.... Darkness and sadness....

As a mad Beatles fan, I visited Liverpool and did a personalised tour of the Beatles houses and places where they met and played. When we got to John Lennon's house, I was shown where his mother was killed crossing the road and was told of the abandonment/rejection by John's parents - even his mother who couldn't care for him. And how he would, as a young boy, visit the orphanage at Strawberry Fields to sit with the children there as he felt so terribly abandoned himself, even though he lived with his (strict) aunt Mimi. Clearly, John Lennon didn't have the emotional intelligence to deal with his early marriage/responsibilities, and the demons from his early trauma ran very deep. To expect him to be this great father to Julian is an unrealistic expectation. In later years, when Sean was born, John was clearly in a different mindset. Regardless of all the judgement against John, he was never going to be capable of doing any differently towards Julian as that was the templar his own parents embedded in his childhood memories.

John wrote hey jude as an apology for abandoning julian. The changed it from hey jules to hey jude because he found it catchier/easier to sing. If that isnt a microcosm of how john felt about and treated julian, i dont know what is.

I remember a while after his Mum Cynthia Lennon died and Julian wasn't invited to some event honoring his Dad that he clearly should have been- he did a rant on how he really felt about it on some social media. Then he shortly after deleted it and replaced it with a warm sentiment from his Mum about not wanting to be ugly like them and thanking his Mother for teaching him how to handle hard times with dignity. ❤ I always liked Julian and hated how things happened with John leaving and acting like they never existed. 😮 My level of respect increased for him because of how he handled that with the same grace and class Cynthia would have, really touched my heart that day! ✌️

And yet people are so judgemental towards John Lennon for being who he was, despite John Lennon having his own lived trauma of rejection/abandonment by his father and mother who, regardless of loving him/visiting him, couldn't care for him and thus, he was taken away and put in the care of his aunt Mimi. Unfortunately, John Lennon didn't/couldn't cut the trauma cycle and it continued and impacted on Julian. But if people are not going to judge Julian, they shouldn't judge his father.

Proverbs 25:20 Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar poured on a wound, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. It’s the song of fools. The song is in the key of F Major with the subject matter of someone leaving their child to commit adultery. Paul McCartney writing pop/rock songs that end up in a nah nah nah nah pub style chorus to cheer a young boy up didn’t really help. The sheet lyrics gifted to Julian were at his Fathers and Yoko’s place when John died. Yoko refused to return the original sheet lyrics among other belongings to Julian when John died. As a result of all this Julian had to buy them back secretly when Yoko put the lyrics up for auction. How ridiculous is that?

i knew his mother thru Louise Harrison. she knew i was shot on my job in 1984. one night at dinner she asked me about me being shot and what did it feel like and did i know i had been shot and if it hurt. she said she wanted to know if John had been in any pain when he was shot. she had put a lot of thought in if John had suffered when he was shot. i did not want to hurt her anymore being told about how many times he was shot and other things about his shooting. i just told her that he probably would have not knew anything being in shock.. i was trying not to make it worse for her as she had really been thinking about his death. you could tell she had deep feelings still about him. and i tried to tell afew white lies to make her feel that he never suffered and did not know because he would have been in shock. i just tried to take her mind from things about that . his mother was too me a very lovely lady. his mother talked so much about Julian and i believe she raised him to care about people and he had manners when it came to how he treated women.. but his mother really thought about him often. i was so sad when I heard she passed . I will always have good memories of Cynthia. I was in Toronto Canada with Cynthia and she was telling me that Julian was in N.Y. fighting Yoko in court over his inheritance . she was supposed to release his money to him and she was refusing to give his his money he was to get. Yoko was a real piece of work.. there are so many things about her that folks don't know about her. and it would probably be to her benefit for folks not to know more.. but i want Julian to know his mother talked about him all the time i was with her.. he had bad times but i think his mother did alright by him..

I think that most people just don't understand the profound effect of parental abandonment on the psyche at such a young age ... it changes the brain development, skews perceptions and emotional reactions and even much later in life when we're supposed to be "over it", it still has an enormously profound impact!!
@mariafantasia1191
@mariafantasia1191 5 ай бұрын
Exactly. Julian's father, John, went through abandonment and rejection from both his father and mother. Although his mother would see him, John was taken away from her and put in his aunt's care. So to have both your father and mother disappear from your life at a young age is going to severly impact. People want to judge John Lennon, but the trauma of his childhood clearly had a terrible impact and you're right - you don't get "over it".

Julian’s memory of being three is most likely when this started. Abandonment is lifelong destruction of the family unit and to our emotional well-being. Men are called by God to be providers, protectors and leaders of the household. Treat your wife like a queen and she will treat you like a king. Do not aggravate your children, but bring them up with love and discipline. It’s that easy.

But you noticed that he never said anything that put the blame on his dad whatsoever and his dad had a history of walking away from relationship. So the problem isn't any way that you can transfer the problem to a song that Paul McCartney wrote I think that's kind of petty. You're hiding from the truth and you're in serious denial. Yoko Ono was never to be in the studios whatsoever this was an understanding by all of the Beatles that no girlfriends or wives in the recording studio but your dad was the first one to break this and tried to force the other three to put up with certain people's opinions that had nothing to do with the Beatles because she wasn't one of them. That's what truly destroyed the Beatles was because of her sticking her nose into it when the other three did not want her a part of it and that was always the agreement. But your dad thinking that he was the leader of the band broke broke that promise that's what caused everything to fall apart. Don't blame it on a song that's really Petty you need to wake up I was around at that time young man.

I've wondered before how Julian thought of his father. Don't know whether he has said much about it, haven't tried to find out, but it's interesting hearing this clip. My father left my mom and me when I was 5, and one day a year later he simply didn't show up for his weekly visitation and he was out of my life. That was nearly 50 years ago and I still remember looking out the window waiting for him. I saw him briefly when my grandfather died when I was 13. Then my mom took him to court when I was starting college to pay the tuition as he agreed in the divorce, and the child support he stopped paying when I was around 10. Then I saw him a handful of times in my 20s when I tried to establish some relationship with him, giving up when it was obvious he was completely indifferent toward me. He once told me he was "sorry" if he had caused me any pain, but he had no regrets. To this day, I cannot understand how a person can spawn and then abandon a child, and be completely indifferent. He's still out there, in his mid 70s now, a successful healthcare attorney in Detroit probably wrapping his career. He had two other kids (each by different women) whom he did not abandon. Do I ever cross his mind? Is he ever curious what I'm up to, how I'm doing? As he nears the end of his life, will he have some epiphany and try to reach out to me? I highly doubt it, but what would/should I do if he did? It took years, but i don't think about him and what he did every day anymore, and I'm so not angry about it as I once was. But being abandoned by your own parent, especially at such a young age, has a major lifelong impact, and I recognize that impact in myself daily. John Lennon is so revered by so many, but can't help think of what he did to Julian and how that will continue to affect Julian for the rest of his life. With his father's fame and the fame he inherited, it must be in his face daily. I hope it doesn't torment him and he has found peace with it.

I’ve always thought it was one of the greatest songs ever written, and the performance is amazing. But I’ve always enjoyed it because my memories associated with it are happy ones, not a sad one like in Julian’s case. I feel sorry for him.

I always thought the same but after really listening to and contemplating the lyrics it just doesn’t represent the way I think. It’s nihilistic and dark and is naive the way it oversimplifies complex problems

@@kpas22105 I think you’re over analyzing it. McCartney simplifies complex problems to their common denominators, does what he can to solve or overcome, and moves on. That’s why he’s been perhaps the most successful musician of the past 100 years.

@@marydauby5229 💯. Several years ago I was driving somewhere with a buddy of mine, and we were listening to a broadcast of “The Lennon Tapes,” Lennon‘s interviews with a guy named Elliot Mintz. They were kind of a big thing back in the day because Lennon was dead at this point and the public were clamoring for information about him, etc. So at one point Lennon said, “I’ve chosen two artistic partners in my life: Paul McCartney, and Yoko Ono. I’d say I’ve done a very good job of choosing partners.” My buddy and I, at the exact very same time, said, “well… one outta two ain’t bad!”

Speaking of fathers up and leaving. What about Engelburt Humperdinck. He has other kids outside his marriage he's never seen. Also, Tom Jones has a son he doesn't claim at all. His name is Jonathan Berkley. A DNA test was taken from Tom Jones and Jonathan Berkeley (toms illegitimate son), and it was proven that Tom Jones is the Father. After all of these years, Tom Jones still won't claim his own son Jonathan Berkley. What a shame, but I think both Tom Jones and Engleburt Humperdinck are Narcissists.

Julian Lennon inherited something from his father that nobody can take away or emulate. His father's appearance & voice. Sean may resemble his father, but Julian is a ringer. We don't think that's so important until we marvel at Clint Eastwood's son Scott Eastwood or how much Lisa Marie resembled Elvis. It's one thing to be the off-spring of a famous person/celebrity, but it's gold to be a carbon copy. I would not doubt it if O was jealous that Julian has experienced so much success in music & being embraced by the world, while Sean has been acknowledged as John's son but not as embraced & lauded as Julian. In fact, there's no comparison.

I love John Lennon, but that was an awful thing to do; Abandoning your family like that. I understand divorce. People grow apart. However, you must still fulfill your duties as a parent. Although this is just my opinion, and it isn't intended to defend John's actions, I believe that Yoko was a user. She met John when he was in a vulnerable state and that she manipulated him shamelessly. By persuading John, in abandoning Julian and Cynthia, Yoko was eliminating the competition. Yoko found the perfect mark, and she took full advantage of it, bleeding him dry and winding up, keeping almost all of John's fortune when he was murdered.

Haha if you believe that you'll believe anything. John was never 'vulnerable'. He was always in complete control of his work and his home life. He called the shots. You magnanimously wave a wand to absolve him of any wrong doing and make the responsibility Yokos. They BOTH were nasty pieces of work. Stop idol worshipping the man. If he never wrote songs and drove a garbage truck, I'm 100 percent sure you wouldn't be giving him a free pass. He gaslit poor Cynthia from the start, and would practically punch her in the face and demean her. A right 'groomer' he was, controlling her and taking and doing what he wanted. Abhorrent little man who happened to be musically talented. I'd rather the Beatles never existed than allow that horrible man to exist and make innocents suffer.

Once I knew the story about how John treated his son, I lost a lot of respect for him as a man. Paul McCartney was nicer to Julian than his own father. Yoko could have been more of a human being and made sure Julian had some momentos of his father's but from what I understand, she didn't want him to have anything...and I agree with leaving it at that because nothing I could or would say about her, would be nice. I saw an interview once where Lennon actually said, "Well I hardly know him....". Really?? He was 3 yrs old when you left you pillock. Wasn't it your place to make arrangements to see your son?? Men just do not realize how this affects their children, and same goes for moms. Julian turned out pretty good in spite of his dad and that person he married. Never did understand that one.
