I like how all of the Jumbo/Cartoon Pizza shows have something in common, like how they all have black dots for eyes, and the recurring word "dink" (examples: Doug's neighbor Mr. Dink, Dinky the elephant from Jojo's Circus, Pinky Dinky Doo) which stands for Dual Income, No Kids.

For me after my recent rewatch of brand spanking new Doug on Disney+ I noticed as the show went on they relied heavily upon quailman segments to fill out episodes unlike during the Nickelodeon seasons where quailman wasn’t used like a crutch to just fill an episode’s runtime something I didn’t really notice as a child watching Doug on Nickelodeon and abc but noticed as an adult

Nick used to give the IPs back to the artists when they had 65 half hours or less? That’s quite a policy. Unfortunately, from the looks of things, it didn’t last very long, since all the shows after Doug’s first few seasons are still owned by them.
@markfacebook
@markfacebook 3 ай бұрын
IIRC 65 half-hours was the metric for syndication. After 65 episodes of a 30 minute TV show, companies could sell those packages to local channels to play. I assume back then Nick just didnt see the value in any show they couldnt sell to other stations to play on the weekday afternoons or weekend blocks.

I'll always have fond memories of Jumbo and watching their shows, but I'll always hate Disney and how they screwed up both the company and Doug, man! I hated most of Disney's run of Doug expect the finale episode, that was great and probably the only other good part about that run of the show besides the movie that they made in 1999 months before the series ended later in like May-June of the same year! It's sad to see them like this, bro! It really is! Rest in peace, Jumbo!

My sister and I grew up with Nickelodeon's version of Doug. Disney's, not so much. By the late 90s, I was entering adulthood, and she was entering her preteen years, so we weren't looking for these shows after a while. By the 2000s, I was already in my early 20s, and she was in her teens, so we don't know what kids were watching at the time. But I do feel like Jumbo Pictures was a staple of our childhoods. Oh, 90s Nick, you will be missed.

As it's true that Disney did shut down poor Jumbo in 2000, I mostly blame Nick/ViacomCBS for under-utilizing it since Nick couldn't produce the last 13 episodes of their version of Doug. And to think with how popular Jumbo Pictures was to both Nickelodeon and Disney, I'm shocked that Cartoon Network didn't see the potential of what they could've saved, that being Jumbo Pictures. If they got to make their Doug (with Jumbo at their helm), I guarantee you Doug would go down in history as the one cartoon to jump all 3 TV juggernauts: Nick, Disney and CN, hopefully bringing peace to all crossover enthusiasts.

@TheRareware64
@TheRareware64 3 ай бұрын
@@sp123 I'd argue with your point, but look at what Disney did for Doug. However, I have a counter-argument for that; since both Tom Warburton and John Dilworth were in Jumbo Pictures and made successful CN shows, they can help Jim revive Doug for CN, and it's likely Billy West can't say no to reprising as his previous roles from Doug. Plus, imagine CN Doug in the early 2000's as being a part Cartoon-cartoons; having his own bumpers before commercials, interacting with the other CN originals in CC Fridays and possibly having Doug himself make Easter Egg appearances in CN shows. The possibilities are endless!

For the longest time I thought Doug was in high school but found out he's only in the 5th grade. Which means in the episode where he and Skeeter go to see The Beets, his parents let their 5th grader go to a concert in another city, and his only companion IS ANOTHER 5TH GRADER! The first episode, they send him to get food IN A TOWN THEY LITERALLY JUST MOVED TOO, like stuff is still on the truck, and they sent this kid off ON HIS OWN. Why not just give him to a kidnapper? So many Nicktoons had unaccompanied minors and child endangerment that's just laughed off later. (Except that one episode of Rugrats we don't talk about.)

Yeah, a lot of unrealistic stuff happened on this series. We don’t really think about this stuff as kids, but as an adult, it’s clearly not a good idea to let 10-year-olds go out and about like that even if the town is pretty safe.

@honeybnoir824 I don't think you realize how common it was. Kids had bikes and skateboards. They went off by themselves all the time. This helicopter parenting thing now is relatively new. A kid like Doug, who was trustworthy and wouldn't get into mischief, would have been allowed to wander about and explore the town. Especially at age 11-12. It's not especially unrealistic for the 90s.

It doesn't matter if I watch it if nobody at Nickelodeon watches it. Either way, the reputational damage is done and is likely irreversible. There's no coming back from multiple child Cosbying accusations with evidence to back them up. These were not low-level employees doing this, even if they kept the ball rolling for it for longer than it should've been going on when it never should've been allowed at all. Even if the inventors of Nickelodeon had pure intentions, they were long gone from the company by the end of the 90s and the peak of the hegemony of Dan Schneider over the network. And *Little Bill* was also on that network.
