You know Papa Purp, I love your channel, even though I don't play Magic anymore, but I miss the good ol' days of Lore.... The Weather light Saga, Odyssey and Onslaught Blocks, that was some great storytelling.

I love WotC when it trips on itself: they did everything they could to not to colonialism in OTJ (in spite that there is a native cactus-folk race), and now make a whole set about Avishkar doing colonialism thru a Public Relationship stunt. It's funny how lorewise Avishkar is investing LOTS of resources on a PR stunt... I wonder how much rebuilding on their OWN plane is still due...

@@Caliban_80 That's because it should have never been an issue. The whole problem around the word "Kala" is made up. If you google 'Hindi to English translation' and type in the Hindu word 'Kaala' you will find this indeed means 'black'. Type in 'Kala' however and the word 'Art' comes up. It was never a problem. It's two completely different words that happen to sound the same.

Thanks for this update ! I personally keep an eye on the plane of Arcavios since it is the home world of Strixhaven and lots of creative minds. Dominaria and Alara had so much beauty, but wars just tore those apart. I'll admit that Ravnica still holds plenty of mystique and intrigue, but the lower levels and chaotic guilds make so risky to venture on.

Desh means "world", and Kalā means "energy", but Kāla means "black" ... so... since we were supposed to call the plane ka-LAH-desh to mean "energy world", but we've all been pronouncing it KA-la-DESH which means something closer to like "the world of blacks" or whatever, they decided to change the plane so it didn't sound so racist.

That sounds really dumb. Why did they have a revolution if they were just going to leave the same people in charge? Why did the reformed government completely ignore the phyrexians? Why did they abdicate voluntarily? This sounds like the current state is what was supposed to exist after the real revolution, then WotC stepped in and said "Actually, that one didn't change very much, so we had another revolution offscreen" because they needed a reason for such a radical change to the setting.

I feel like wizards would have been better to lean into it. "We all know Kaladesh as an art/invention city, but what most miss is the Dark underpinnings the city started from" Own it & write a banger prehistory story

This makes the most sense as money laundering. It''s like buying and selling art. No one knows how much a piece of art is really worth. Could be worthless, could be thousands. If you over pay for a piece of art, whose to say? If the artist happens to be related to the buyer and some of that money makes its way back to the buyer afterward, who''s going to know? This consulting company is selling a goofball service that WOTC could have an intern do for nothing, but when it's done by"professionals" maybe it really does cost whatever absurd amount WOTc execs shelled out? Who's to say? I mean we all know that the current WOTC leadership is totally ethical and not greedy at all right?

As someone who lives in The Black Country (it’s in the U.K.) I hate the change as it’s like renaming my home. 😂 I understand it though, but we haven’t changed the name of Uranus yet even though that has the same problem. This is a great summary - I was worried that the change was like ‘partition’ but it’s almost the reverse- it’s like the people are getting rid of the name the oppressors gave them which works for me. And as the whole structure of the plane has changed too it really does parallel the occasions when real world countries reconfigured themselves.
