It would appear that whenever a menacing character is required in a western, call Kim Coates.

"menacing character'' in any genre, he seems to just exude evilness very well.

I cracked up laughing and cheered out loud when I saw Kim was the one playing Brigham!!! Loved him so much in SOA. I grew up in Salt Lake City, 110% immersed in LDS culture. I never even heard of the Mountain Meadows massacre until taking Utah history in college. That was 35 years ago. This movie was incredible! So glad someone finally told the story really well. Love Taylor Kitsch also!

There was a photo take of Brigham Young in 1856 when the Utah War started and he had no beard. This is historically accurate and I am glad they show him with longer hair and clean shaven.

He did a great job acting, B Young was not the character portrayed in this movie. I have read so much of Youngs writing and it seems as if the directors and writers of thsi series did not read any of Youngs work. The actor played a great fictional character. I did love the series but historically in accurate.

@ I looked them up and found that much of the dialogue came straight from Young's published sermons (though some of the lines were chopped and taken out of context). You shouldn't claim that they don't when they do.

@ 5 -10 lines from hundreds of pages of what he wrote and said. Yeah not accurate at all but like I said great series. Dont pretend to be well read of Young if you just do a quick google search

He is playing a fictional character with Brigham Young's name thrown on it. Couldn't even try to find someone that looked anything like the real Brigham Young, let alone portray him accurately. Major dramatization!!!

@richardwestern9546 It sounds like you’re just bitter that the brutal history of your church is being shown to the world. If anything, the show greatly downplayed, how truly cruel and abusive Brigham and the Mormons were, and still are.

@@timmiestabrnak I have no problem with history being told as long as it is told truthfully but this Hollywood glam job blood and guts just for ratings and $$$$ is just sad. I am still learning about this and can say without a doubt people are evil and do evil things in the name of God even if god has nothing to do with there actions learned that first hand in saudie, but this film is really sad its an attack on the mormans when it could have been a education on the evil things that happened and a way to show people that we cannot repeat the past no matter what or were we choose to bow our heads.

Martial Law was pronounced by Brigham Young in 1857 but mainly to allow the Nauvoo Legion to protect the Utah Territory from the Government troops commanded by Sidney Johnston coming to Utah across the plans and allow the Nauvoo Legion and Milita to attach and harrass the troops before they got to Salt Lake City. As far as the Fancher Group, they were somewhat peaceful However they picked up a group of men along the way that loved to drink and harass. This mouthy group got upset because the Mormons would not sell them some of the goods they had, mainly because everyone was getting ready for a possible war. The timing was really bad. To ad to this issue, they started mouthing off that they participated in the Killing of Joseph Smith, and that they were going to California to bring back another army. So this really got the local southern Saints worried. Then the local Piautes got upset with the party also due to them poisoning one of their watering holes. So the Mormons and Indians got together and stopped them at Mountain Meadows. Once they had a confrentation, the local leadership took upon themselves to battle with guns this group. After a couple of days, the sent word to Brigham Young and told them of the situation and asked him what to do, The rider/messenger than was told by Brigham Young to let them go on their way and stop harrassing them. The rider/messanger got back 24 hours to late as the Stake President of Parawon and Cedar had just made the descion to kill the men and women the day before. It was them and John D. Lee that organized the slaughter. NOT Brigham Young.
