There are various ways through which this can happen. One being eggs getting transported through birds, other reasons being flooding, through rivers and streams. some like catfish can survive out of water and travel to other water bodies nearby.

In my language, pond is human made and small, most often for fish growing. Then there are dams/reservoirs. Lakes are nature-made. Glacial lake is called pleso, other lake is jezero.
