I recently discovered Dr Fiona Kerr at a board conference. She was one of the most interesting speakers at the conference. Her knowledge and skills inspired me and continues to do so in this presentation

According to my own research what Fionna Kerr presents is that "Good leaders" are leaders of the heart. Here are my highlights of the talk: they have a clear vision that they can communicate and a strong set of values that help the group feel safe in getting there (The Ethical heart). Good leaders are pragmatic optimists that make sure people understand that they expect the best out of them thus the pygmalion effect tells us that we will strive to meet those high hopes (The Emotional heart). Inspirational and transformational leaders have different brains, their brain muscle on social aspects is strong. They are we leaders that are able to connect and engage with stories and their physiology reflects their leadership approach - i.e brain scans demonstrate - thus human beings are hard-wired to connect (The Biological Heart). We have to take into account that when we talk with other people we synchronize our brains (interpersonal neural synchronization). Chemical release when we engage in a positive conversation supports new neurons, the interpersonal connection is wired at a physiological level: i.e trust. And from there that trust is going to support that things move in a positive direction, collaboration rises, fairness is perceived, people dare to move out of their comfort zone. We are to understand Empathy as a structured physiological process in your brain. Empathy is required for complex problem solving and strategic thinking. WHEN WE ENGAGE THE HEART IS WHEN WE CAN CHANGE THE MIND because the chemicals that are in the discernment process organize the patterns in your brain and make you THINK DIFFERENTLY. Understanding the neurophysiological difference that the "soft part of leadership" arises helps understand that actually soft leadership is the new hard one ; )

I wonder how the researchers distinguished leaders' impact on the brain from various possible factors.
