You know, there are some videos on YT that just make me beam with pride. After having worked in a similar industrial sector in my earlier days I now recognize the all the lost talent, drive and ingenuity that our nation once had an abundance of. Back then, the youth of the day were all so familiar with shops like this and a good many aspired to be part of it. We need to return to our roots. I gladly pay more for this quality because I know my ancient Mustangs, Toters and F100's are of the same ilk. I've experienced three to one longevity using Eaton vs other brands.

Years ago the great (?) minds of this country decided that our country no long needs to manufacturer anything for we can buy it from other counties cheaper. They said our youth must get a college education for we will be come a service nation. Worked out well hasn't it?

Eaton Detroit Spring is a fixture in Detroit, and most deservedly so! I have ordered several sets of springs for them, and have always been 100% satisfied. They sweat the details, and make sure to get everything right. Visiting their location on Michigan Avenue (if you are local or visiting) is a education, too. The very first set of springs I ordered were for a 1962 Mercury Meteor. They opened a tray of blueprints, and pulled out a set of 50-year-old blueprints for my car's springs. You can get stock ride height, or modified. My most recent set of springs required a larger-than-stock spring eye radius, and they handled this request seamlessly and with no confusion. The resulting springs work great! My highest recommendation!

I worked at Detroit Steel products 28 years ago. We pushed out all of Fords springs and some GM. I would lift 60 tons of steel a night! Picking up the finished 200 pound spring and swinging it onto a skid (with another guy) was an art form. I was the strongest I have ever been! My back muscles were ripped and talk about the girls I got those years! lol! It is an art form to build a spring and not have any gaps larger than spec. Especially when we built springs with 10 to 16 leafs each! PS I also ran a shot peen machine that did about 30 leafs at a time on a (I believe "titanium" steel) conveyor belt. That thing had holes in the machine and it was worse than being hit with a BB gun! But I did love seeing it when upper management would do a walk thru and they'd get hit with the shot! It was hilarious! It was like watching a silent comedian! haha

I worked at Detroit Steel in Morristown, Indiana for 2 years. We made Springs alot quicker than anything I have seen on YT! We had an assembly table where I had to pick up 200lb + springs after assembled and put them in the bull dozer, then pick them up and out of that to be checked by quality control. Then we would pick it up and swing it to a skid. So me and another guy would lift 40 tons a night x 3 times each! So that is 120 tons total which means I lifted 60 tons a night! I also drove a gas engine forklift that was quicker than any I have seen. We did springs for Ford, Gm, etc. I was an expert FL driver! I also ran a wheelabrator that was a shot pen machine. It had a huge conveyor belt that could handle about 30 pieces at a time! Much larger outfit than I can find on here. I hated my job! haha

Small world. Way back prior to 1937 our company was the aftermarket division of DSP. DSP made springs both for the OEM's and the aftermarket. My Grandfather ran the aftermarket division when Ford gave DSP the option of supplying them or competing against them, they sold the aftermarket division to my Grandfather. 85 years later we are still in business and DSP is not.

Tempering is to soften the hardening steel. Why after that you do shot preening?
@EatonDetroitSpring3 ай бұрын
After the springs have been formed and quenched in oil, they are too hard and brittle. In order to soften them to be a spring they must be re-heated to around 900 degrees F for a few minutes. They are then shot peened to relive the inherent internal stress that formed during the heat treating process.

Does shot peening affect hardness?
@EatonDetroitSpring5 жыл бұрын
Shot peening has no effect on the hardness. Shot peening relieves the stress in the steel. We like to say shot peening turns unhappy molecules into happy molecules.

Excellent video , keep up the quality work . Fantastic to see a quality product fabricated by tradesmen that take pride in their work . So many companies out there cut every corner possible to get the product out the door and quality & durability suffers . Maintain the old equipment , it's time proven , the simple things in life are best . 👍✅🦘

' right word is LIFT SPRING... NOT leaf spring... leaf is a only death branch of plant - tree skin off

@Mr Sunshines Be nice.

Lift spring would be a spring that raises a vehicle. When a spring is made form flat steel bars it is called a leaf spring.
