Invest in the Insurance sector of India:
link.smallcase.com/Xe5mprobBlb
VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
In March 2022, India is about to witness its biggest ever IPO in the history of the stock market. Because the country's largest insurance company LIC is about to give away 5% of the Indian government's stake to potentially raise nearly $8 billion.
LIC is an iconic company in India history, that has been dominating the Indian insurance sector since 66 years and what blew our mind is that in 2017, while GOI's budget was 383.93 Billion dollars, LIC's AUM itself was 403.44 Billion dollars. The customer base of LIC is nearly 6 times the population of the United Kingdom. and with more than 280 million policies, it is the fifth largest insurer in the world in terms of insurance premium collection as of 2020. and today LIC is not just insurer but a nation builder, an employment generator and a critical financial conglomerate of India!!
The question is
What is the story of LIC?
How did it become such an important engine in India's growth history?
and most importantly as investors, what are the factors that you need to consider before you invest into LIC or Similar companies?
This video answers these questions

One of the reason for LIC was earlier there was no term insurance,LIC product was like Fixed deposit with insurance cover for common man,and at that time interest rate was also above 12℅ which was huge,so peoples were investing in LIC as there savings tool and if something happens it also acts as Insurance.

LIC had investments in 280 companies, it's more like a index fund. But, buy an index fund rather than via LIC. LIC is facing challenges in tech led disruption, adhoc govt intervention in proping up unviable PSUs like IDBI. The quality of the management is questionable too: LIC board member on ICICI board never raised any objections when loans were sanctioned to Videocon group in favor of kickbacks. This is one company that doesn't know to protect its own investments

Could you please make a case study on Downfall of BSNL. I still feel it is one of the best telecom company in India, but is stripped off of its services strategically by some elements of the Government and Private sector players. It is a slow killing of a giant.
@bravewarrior1218

BSNL. I am of the opinion, that it is not any Government but Trade Unionism, work culture and corruption at all levels, which has destroyed BSNL and many other PSUs. Both employees and officers are responsible. I am not saying that there are no dedicated officials in BSNL, but I am telling that general work culture in a PSU is unprofessional. A Govt servant does not think that he is a servant of the people but he thinks that he is the master of the people. BSNL had great opportunity to serve the country and also employee get good salary but have wasted this opportunity. I am not telling that Govt policies are not responsible, but if employees could give very good result, no Private Company could replace BSNL. One cause of unprofitability is huge staff and salary expenses but Unions will never accept staff restructuring. Importance of Unions will decrease there only few thousand employees. Now there are about 1.5 lakh employees. Now, only total restructuring and professionalism can save BSNL.

Thank you Thinkschoo for the information. I am an ex employee of the Corporation and am very well aware of the scenario. The best part, as you said, was settlement of claims, be it death or otherwise, swift and without any corruption. Huge amounts are settled promptly and with least paperwork. Here the agents come to the rescue of the grieving family. So, at least in rural or semi urban population, agent is the link or the face of the Corporation. There are a number of cases wherein the original agent is either dead or not reachable, in such cases, some other agent goes to help, without earning a single rupee. Its very difficult in this current situation where people compare insurance with stock market for profit making. So, though, LIC has thought about direct marketing or online marketing as congruent channels for marketing, agents become the basic pillars for business. As nation builder, LIC plays a major role but is always underplayed, as this isn't given the publicity that is needed. We were always told that this was WIDOWS' MONEY. So, though, best service was expected which was prompt and corruption free, basic amneties weren't provided to the employees. With the advent of foreign players, LIC stood tall with maintaining their market share with the help of employees and field staff. LIC changed its face and had new customer friendly offices. As you said correctly, there is no profit as such. But the surplus is efficiently managed. So the mechanism, even if it is not a private sector, is oiled properly. There will still be a need for new marketing strategies in the years to come. I believe that the best is yet to come. Thank you so much, once again, for the time and efforts put into this vdo. Keep rocking Thinkschool

The reason LIC agents annoy people so much to get a policy is because of the lucrative commission that they get. Just to give you an idea say I pay a premium of 1lk per year to LIC and the term is 15 years the agent get 25% of the premium paid as commission in the first year, 15%(7.5% each year) for 2nd & 3rd year, 5% every year until the 15th year. Technically I will pay 15lks in premium to LIC over 15 years and LIC pays almost 1lks in commissions over 15 years. The agent job is just to find clients and convince them and do the paperwork which might take a week but look at the returns, its huge. Here I have given an example of just 1lk premium paid per year, in a year if they manage to get aleast 10lks in premium paid to LIC the return is 10lks. This is where LIC is losing most of the money, if LIC manages to cut off agents and move online completely then it will be a monopoly for years to come.
@ashwatthama4075
@ashwatthama4075 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, but you must understand most people in India especially Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and villages won't trust online transactions for things like insurance. Even after so many years insurance penetration in India is very very low compared to developed countries. Also, most LIC agents are housewives, middle class people working as an agent as a secondary job and many rely solely on this to run their family. Their are millions of beneficiaries due to this. And, most agents don't get their complete commissions. They are forced by the people to reduce their commission, many end up only with 5-10% of total commission. There is cut throat competition amongst agent to reduce their commission by giving back the earned money to the customer or customer would pay discounted amount based on their calculations.

The major concern for LIC is its dependency on nearly 13.5 Lakh ( which brings 95% of their business) Agents, on which they paid around 22,358 crores in 2021, and whatever the money they are and they had invested, is the money of policyholders, and I'm always been Optimistic but anything happens to the market which hurts people, money, and their life too. Also, they are lacking in Tech-based distribution over Agents, where they nearly lost a market share of 12% from 56% in 2016 to 44 % in 2022; in individual policies and group policies market share has reduced to 77% in 2020, which was 81% in 2016. Also now LIC gonna listed on the index which means these numbers need to improve and they need passive income sources apart from the money of policyholders.

One of the hidden secret is, LIC is the reason for under coverage of Insured people in India . Bcz agent’s get more commission in endowment plans than term plans so they are interested in selling endowments than Term plans

good video.. However, LIC is not giving returns to investors. Now it is tough to sustain in the current situation and Service is not that great compared to private partners..

LIC always worked for the poor. My father with over 40 years of Agency experience always swore by this moto. Helped countless families and always strived to provide best service as possible. He is 65 and still working. Currently he is still fighting for the betterment of LIC Agents' life and their benefits. I always question my father, that your time is almost over, why do you care? I guess he has a special connection with the company that can be credited with the job of building INDIA.

You missed a point that is premium of LIC is comparatively higher than pvt insurers and their claim settlement as well as amount settlement ratio is also higher than LIC ( as in case of MAX Life Insurance & TATA AIA)

Bro I got selected in lic as an assistant in 2020 through IBPS.. who said u lic claim settlement ratio is lower . Private insurers doest shows accurate ratio of claim settlement..no one can pay the claim as lic pays.. we receive claims in daily way more then any premium received by private companies.. who said u lic premium is more then private?? It depends on product that companies r providing.. what about bonus rate that lic provide in comparison to private insurers???

@@pritamsingh735 Your work there has nothing to do with this topic, checkout this news article where you'll find two chart dedicated to Claim settlement ratio along with amount settle ratio, also read some lines in the article where it states that this info is been verified against IRDAI, and in the chart you'll find pvt companies like Bharti AXA too with higher claim & amount settle ratio than LIC.

Claim settlement is at per & amount settlement is highest in LIC. However most important is faster settlement, lowest grievances & much more important Unclaimed money used for national charity & surplus is used for nation building/strongest shoulder for Indian economy and many more right now. Future nobody knows, however we can judge from past and present. In India many of the failed insurance giants are doing joint ventures. Once upon a time a Lonny of LIC for RIL Jamnagar plant became a competitor with LIC now. So anything can happen. Hence country is first, I support LIC.

@@panigrahij Amount settlement and claim settlement is higher of Bharti AXA as per IRDAI reports, which is around 95% for LIC and around 98or99% for Bharti AXA, haven't encountered any Insurance claim yet but I do agree that LIC's settlement time is good but their policy is also a bit more costly. Just check my prev reply for the news link to find settlement ratios.

I think that maybe because the realisation of the importance of life has increased, and the normal lives of people are being disrupted, people would be much more keen to opt for life insurance which would ensure both the short-term and long-term well-being of their family members. So I think it would be beneficial for LIC and the insurance industry in general.

LIC has the early movers advantage and enjoyed monopoly for a very long time,still it enjoys a high level of trust and credibility among its customers which is difficult to match for its competitors
