@@slyslife I enjoyed Guadalajara so much. I rode the shared Mibici bike system throughout the areas that have stations. The ofrendas and panteones during dia de los muertos were great. Near La Catedral en zona centro I listened to a lady discuss the cempasúchil flowers and lights to guide the spirits of your ancestors back. There was a large Catrina skeleton with a large hat in the public square and many people dressed up as Catrinas. Many of the tapatias will definitely make your heart skip a beat. See 220 and 511. It was a bit easier for me to chat with paisa, but I would like to find a soul mate there. My spanish improved this year after living in CO and MX. Though there are always accents and slang that I struggle with. Others speak in a very neutral way that is very easy to understand. I think it is more related to the level of education of the family and individual. I am back in the bay area and when I pass through parts of Oakland I feel more on edge than many places in MX and CO.

I'm thinking of going to Durango City in Durango Mexico. How safe is it? I've had some people to tell me to travel to Polanco in Mexico City since it is considered safe. The problem is, Polanco is just as expensive as America. The problem I have with most Mexican travel videos is that they fall into one of two extremes, those extremes being _"Mexico is safe! Don't worry!"_ and _"Mexico is dangerous, avoid it!"_ . There seems to be a lack of an objective and realistic middle ground.
@slyslife2 жыл бұрын
I heard there's not much to do in Durango as it's the country side or something like that - I would go. And yes, Polanco is a nice area to visit in Mexico city.
@prime8nate2 жыл бұрын
Mexico has very high murder rates. Among the highest if not the highest in the world. Most gringos don't see it and just focus on the fact that there's a ton of very kind people in Mexico. Out of sight, out of mind. Involve yourself with the drug trade or do some investigative journalism and suddenly it becomes a VERY dangerous country to live in. The murder rate among the million gringos minimum that live in Mexico may be better than the US but stuff does happen, like in Tulum recently. It's weird that the gringo KZbinrs don't ever mention that in videos. It shouldn't be a destination for people who's main priority is avoiding crime but I really enjoy living in Mexico. Other than minor petty theft and a bribe or two (which is more than offset by how much cheaper it is) I've been safe. Durango is a typical central highlands type city with some really beautiful countryside that is well of the tourism circuit. If you speak Spanish and want to avoid gringos, it could be pretty ideal. A lot of western movies have been filmed there. Durango gets really cold at night in the winter months and Mexican homes aren't known for great heating systems so be aware of that. Mazatlan isn't far away if you want beaches.
