I read the Bible, memorize verses and attend Bible study classes. My faith in Jesus is strong and keeps me moving. I walk my dog for at least 45 minutes every day and often times we have another dog with us. I practice yoga twice a week and do strength training with free weights three times a week to keep my muscles strong. Whew! I'm tired now just describing it! I'll soon be 74. I walked my two labradors at least two miles each day. However now aged eighty-six, and having lost my dogs, I am suffering from a dodgy knee ect. I am struggling to retain my purposeful life at the moment, sometimes giving in to depression at the loss of my beloved dogs. I am an avid reader and write, keep my sense of humour and eat well, so not too bad really. Still wearing the latest trainers and what my daughter refers to as my war paint (make up), still drive a car and drive everyone mad with my hypochondria! I will soon be 78. I enjoy life as much as I can, just like when I was young. I travel, sing everyday and record my songs. I read, have a chat group, I eat all the food that I like. I have cats to love. I interact with my family and friends daily. I still fall in love but do not pursue it, I just enjoy the thrill like a teenager.

At one point I had a discussion with my doctor about aging. His position was that most people, if they looked after themselves --- a proper diet and an active lifestyle --- can live a good productive life well into their 80s. How we do beyond 85, say, depends, to a large extent, on genetics. We've all heard stories about people who've smoked multiple packs of cigarettes since they were teenagers and lived to be a hundred. Well, that's largely a function of genetics.

It's also about having no disabilities or injuries when you are younger. How can you stay active, physically in your seventies if you suffered from arthritis and can't mobile all that well.
@Richard-kg7rnАй бұрын
I had arthritis in my hands, took medication for it for over 30 years, couldn’t button my pants without it. Went from Mediterranean diet suggested by my Dr., decided to go with a keto diet. 3 months later no longer take medication and no more pain. I’m not saying it will work for others, but it worked for me.

Now with COVID on the scene and RSV respiratory disease in 2024 the aging process is taking a different turn and reducing life expectancy for many. Our DNA is also another factor. Eliminating stress in our lives and toxic people also contributes to a longer life in addition to all of the points mentioned in this video. It’s a work in progress but good advice. @@eviwarawiri2903In fact I am married to a French woman of Tunisian origin , and so we have part of the family in Tunisia . I did a bit of classical Arabic about 25 years ago ,but since being retired I now have more time to study my wife’s dialect .It is based on the classical language , but with local variations , and of course in 25 years I have forgotten much of what I learnt in the past . But I can confirm that this current learning process is a great challenge and extremely good for reactivating the learning and memory skills , in a language that is not of European origin and which can be very difficult to learn and to be fluent in !

I find this most interesting because I am 84 years old and I served 21 years in the army retired in 1982 which gives me over 40 years retirement I lost the LOVE of my life Pat in Jan 2022 we had 46 wonderful years together she had fibromyalgia for all 45 years we were together she retired on disability when she was 30 tears old I was her caretaker all of that time, I maintained a rose garden outside her bedroom window for enjoyment on her bad and good days after my loss I started growing 60 to 80 heirloom tomato plants which I shared with friends and neighbors still maintain the rose garden, during the colder months I build wood flags, wood wind spinners, bird houses and wishing wells, also I read western novels 2 or 3 a month and color adult coloring books I exercise 6 days a week in my basement I just added a 1000 step exercise this week, I drive and read without glasses do I hope my good health and mobility will serve me for a few more years if that is what God wants for me.

A Good piece of advice to any age group why because even a few youngsters do live alone in their big houses. Living alone in a big house in a lonely place is also dangerous. At times ideas may not help do good in the hours of need without fellowmen. Probabilities hover over us to get well sooner while loneliness draws back for further deficiencies. Under the environment, old age life becomes lethargic & monotonous & never be understood by pedestrians or whatsoever whether or not the person is living-in.

I would caution, after working in a nursing home for nearly 20 years, when elders walk outdoors and are in excellent shape, then may trip over a bump, fall, break a hip and then it sometimes goes down from there. Walking indoors is much safer and the outdoors can be enjoyed in ways where accidents are not as easy to occur🙂

Eating a healthy diet is also VERY important along w/moderate exercise like the first gentleman walking to the store and back. I also have to say stay AWAY from sugar as much as possible as well as junk foods. I'm 78 and my husband is 81, almost 82. I'm fairly healthy, doing moderate exercise on an Elliptical Exerciser. I have a whiplash injury in my neck, but keep that in control w/some 3 lb dumbbells. I do a certain amount of lifts almost every night. It keeps the muscles in my neck from going soft and giving me pain. Unfortunately, my husband indulged in MIUCH sugar and junk for a while. He is paying the price for that w/type 2 Diabetes and some mild dementia.
