The worlds most popular vehicles the Tesla Model 3 & Model Y are less than 6 years old many are now getting to 400,000 miles and have >85% of range, motors and the gearbox are still like new. How long do BEV batteries last not enough time has passed to make a determination but IMHO (and Elon's) >300,000 miles or double ICE cars.

So how come they have an 8 year warranty? Which EV did you own that had a battery that lasted only 2.5 years?

@@greengooflight Phones, tablets and ebikes don't have battery management or heat pumps. My Kia eNiro battery is still at 94% state of health at just over 3 years old/34k miles..... I'm good with that.

4:25 is a lie, there is footage of Tesla's battery only last between 2 weeks, to 1 year. There's footage of Tesla's on fire before the license Plate arrives, footage of Tesla Owners with 2 Battery Replacement with a 2 year old battery

Plenty of ICE cars also catch fire. The NTSB in the US recorded 180'000 ICE car fires in the US during 2022. Why are you not concerned about *these* figures?

There are report of ICE car failing even when brand new, there are reports of brand new ICE catching fire.. and I heard it somewhere - fossil fuel combustion is rising the sea level threatening the very existence of man kind!

Lead acid batteries have acid and lead which are harmful but EV batteries were glossed over. Good propaganda.

& ICEage cars can easily use 3-4 pricey lead acid starter batteries in their lifetime. Especially in winter climates . They have not warmer circuits like some EVs

Some of those who champion ICE over EV often gloss over things too, such as huge oil tanker spills, or the massive amounts of Co2 emitted by tanker deliveries of fuel to gas/petrol stations, or the huge amounts of energy used to pump oil out of the ground before it even reaches a refinery....

An average car lasts 15-20 years while an ev last 10-15 years - that's actually really bad

Although - like a worn engine - you can have an EV battery pack refurbished for a fraction of the cost of fully replacing it. There are EV specialists already carrying out this work in the UK..... An average ICE car will require oil changes and servicing over 15 to 20 years, along with things such as clutch replacement, various belts etc..... EV's usually require much less servicing. A Tesla has no scheduled servicing.

@@Brian-om2hh Some battery packs are much harder to work on than others. Good luck digging through the glue holding structural battery packs together to change cells. Depending on your luck, it may also only be a matter of month before the next weakest cell fails and you have to spend another $3000+ getting another cell/chunk replaced. IMO, there needs to be industry-wide modular battery standards so people can refresh their battery pack one ~$1500 known-good off-the-shelf module at a time instead of gambling on aftermarket hacks to avoid shelling 15-40k$ on a new battery (if they can find one) or writing off an otherwise still perfectly good vehicle.

@@teardowndan5364 Tesla glue the cells together. Plenty of other EV makers don''t...... I think you'll find that EV specialists who carry out battery pack refurbishments will carry out a cycling test on completion of the refurb, in order to test for the issue you outlined.

@@Brian-om2hh You aren't going to find the next weakest cell with only one post-refurb cycle since you presumably already did a cycle BEFORE the refurb to hopefully identify all of the problematic cells. For failure modes like dendrite growth, a cell can look good one month and exhibit high self-discharge a few months later when dendrites get through the separator.
