I started in audit also! The challenge of going from audit to bookkeeping is that bookkeeping deals with all the details of transactions whereas audit focuses on the big picture. You have to be willing to work with the details of transactions. In addition, you need to know how to provide services virtually and how to work effectively - I call that bookkeeping workflows. I teach virtual bookkeeping workflows in my course, The Virtual Bookkeeper's Roadmap.

Hi Bryan. A lot of it depends on your experience level. Studying can only get you so far because you're learning the theory but not actually working with clients. You may want to find a job working for an accountant first so you can gain experience.

How different is the course offered by Ben Brown from BBL? For someone who is starting a bookkeeping business, which course is more suitable? I have to do more on sales and marketing. Thank you.

Hi Myrna. Ben Brown's course teaches you lead generation and getting clients. It focuses on just that and it assumes that you know bookkeeping and that you have a structure (workflows) in place to service the clients that you bring in. BBL is a course that teaches bookkeeping to someone who have never done bookkeeping before. It also covers how to get clients but in general ways (networking, Facebook). If you want to learn how to get clients, then Ben Brown's course would be better suited for you.

Hi Angie. Having using a gmail domain (like [e-mail]) can be a red flag to some people that you don't have a legitimate business. You domain name and your web presence are the new brick and mortar.

He has a program called Bookkeeper Business Launch. He is a CPA that teaches bookkeeping business. The program is excellent and extremely detailed.
