Are you suffering with ongoing concussion symptoms? Check out our free daily workshops for patients with PCS! Learn how to reduce your symptoms, increase your function, and reclaim your life…without seeing countless doctors or spending thousands on medical expenses! joinnow.live/s/ABRbfU
We discuss the typical healing trajectory for the brain following concussion. Although the metabolic impairment is relatively short-lived, concussion symptoms can persist beyond this initial physiologic recovery.
Brain recovery following concussion is usually a pretty quick process, however, there is often confusion about this because of lingering symptoms related to other issues.

But if I didn't have the symptoms before and I am still dealing with them post concussion (Its been a year) does that still mean my brain is healing or has the brain injury affected others things but the brain is ok. Thanks, I really enjoy your videos

The symptoms of concussion are also the symptoms of MANY other things. Concussion causes a temporary functional injury to the brain. The lingering effects seem to be more attributed to things OTHER than ongoing brain injury - example: concussion can lead to increased anxiety. The symptoms of anxiety can look exactly like the symptoms of concussion. If the initial injury heals in a couple weeks (which for the most part it does), but you still have ongoing symptoms, could this actually be the anxiety that's driving these ongoing issues? Definitely. Often times looking to these other possible causes and TREATING these other causes actually CURES your concussion...not because it's fixing your brain, but because it's dealing with the other issues that are actually responsible for the ongoing symptoms. The most heavily researched methods for eliminating concussion symptoms are: daily exercise, cognitive behavioural therapy (psychological intervention), treatment and rehab of the muscles and joints of the neck (chiropractic, physical therapy, etc.), and treatment and rehab of the visual and vestibular systems. Stop focusing on the brain and instead focus on exploring these other areas - find someone who really knows concussion rehab and you should do pretty well!

There isn't alot of research on this. I think this is more of a personal decision and a "try it and see" type of approach. The (very limited) research that has been done don't show any ill-effect of drinking alcohol on concussion recovery...BUT, alcohol is proinflammatory (inflammation can cause concussion-like symptoms), it destroys your gut bacteria (which affects neurotransmitter production and also contributes to inflammation), and it affects sleep (which also is needed for clearing inflammation and maintaining a good hormone balance) - so the answer is basically - try it and see...but no alcohol is always going to be better for your physical, mental, and cognitive health than drinking! But then again...wine :)

@@silent1823 alcohol is a depressant naturally. It also creates gut inflammation and kills your healthy gut bacteria. Your gut is what makes your "happy" neurotransmitters for your brain (serotonin). From what you are describing I would be looking at your gut as a possible issue for your symptoms (inflammation). We just launched a new course for patients to teach you how to do this (and everything else) - so this may help: concussiondoc.io/offer/the-concussion-fix/

@@CompleteConcussionsCan you answer me this, Doctor? Please respond back because it'll make me feel better. I lightly bumped the back of my head against the sofa armrest, but the armrest was cushioned. I went to the hospital and the Doctor there had me be given a CT scan...and told me that I only had a mild head contusion, no bleeding in the brain, and a mild concussion. He also told me that it would've been the most fatal within the first twelve hours, but when I saw him I had made it nearly five days (and that was yesterday), and today is the sixth day after bumping the back of my head on Sunday morning. He said that after I made it after four days that my chances of anything being more severe were at the lowest, and that the more hours and days that go by increases my chances of being okay, and decreases the chances of it being anything dangerous. The only concussion symptoms that I have, and that have shown themselves over six days after I bumped my head, are: headache; dizziness; blurry vision with farsightedness, but not for nearsightedness, and I don't have double vision with either farsightedness or nearsightedness; and having a bit of trouble falling asleep and staying asleep...but it might be because I'm nervous and anxious about falling asleep, and it might be because of my anxiety fueling it. But I'm not suffering from nausea, vomiting, bleeding from my nose or ears, mood changes, memory problems, or difficulty walking/clumsiness. I think I might have trouble speaking a little bit, but I don't know if that's because I speak quickly because of my nervousness and anxiety, and that might be the cause of why I screw up the words and trip over them when they come out. Could you please respond to this comment and let me know, based off of everything that I just outlined and your own medical expertise, if you could form some kind of diagnosis and let me know if I really do just have a mild/minor, nonfatal, nonlethal, and harmless concussion and head contusion, and that I won't die from this, and will be okay? Thank you very much, Doctor.

Ongoing symptoms are not reflective of ongoing brain injury....they are due to other things (which are treatable). So if you still aren't back to normal, you gotta find out why - check out the workshops in the description of this video for more explanation!

Hello, i ran i this video because i just discovered that my tinnitus came because of in a fight that i got in which i got many blows to my head because i couln't protect myself because it was 2 vs 1 but anyway i had a head injury and i got tinnitus ( very loud from both of the ears at first) but now I can manage it but I very often lost my balance ( it was at the beginning and after 3 month) and a lot of noose bleeding and today after 5 months my tinnitus is much much better because before it was so fucking bad like having an allarm in your head but now is better and my balance has come to place and i had some headaches for 3 days straight and i was just wondering if I can recover from my tinnitus which came from a concussion, please i need to know more about it!

If you keep on doing daily activities after a concussion starts,will it extend its healing time ?
@CompleteConcussions

There is no evidence to suggest this, no...You should engage in a bit of rest but you only need to avoid activities that really provoke your symptoms to a significant degree.

@@CompleteConcussions Hi doc, I just discovered your channel and it's truely amazing. I wanted to ask you if you could make a video on more severe brain injuries? I had a bad TBI one year ago (was out for 1 min and had some minor cerebral contusions in the temporal and frontal lobes). Fortunately, I made a quick recovery and am completely fine now (my marks have actually never been that good in college)... Nevertheless, some questions remain unanswered: Do patients with contusions experience brain deterioration in the future? Are they more susceptible to get concussions because of the trauma they've already experienced? Consequently, is it ok to engage in sports where you might get hit in the head (of course not talking about boxing or football which are way too dangerous sports but of sports like basketball or judo where getting hit in the head isn't part of the sport but is still likely to accidentally happen)? Thank you again for the amazing content and knowledge you are putting out.
