yap they sold these as a chevy tracker and a geo before that (it also was a Suzuki samurai before that for some of the earlier models of tracker) for a good long while the 2 door models are a favorite of mine with the soft top. 2.0l and 5 speed or 4x4 rarely you will find them with both 5 speed 4x4 and you don't want the auto 2x4 which this one was along with being a 4 door so its worthless unless its got the v6 option then those engines are worth it for swaps into the 2 doors to make stupid choices for swaps.

You can do this on older cars. But doing this with modern cars can cause a voltage spike and damage the electronics such as the pcm.

Anything post 80s has had computers in it and the older stuff with less voltage regulation is more susceptible to issues. That said basically any car ever should be totally fine if you remove the battery while running as long as there’s an alternator/generator.

I once bought a Civic that needed a radiator and a battery. I came, replaced the radiator, filled it up with water and went to drive it home but forgot to bring a battery so I just jumped it, taped over the + terminal and started driving it home. I made it half way when it started to overheat because I didn't bleed the coolant enough. So I turned the car off, added more water and my friend following me home (that I literally taught how to drive stick earlier that day so he could drive my own car back from picking up with car) had to back up down the shoulder and turn around so that we could jump the civic again. The police stopped to see if we were OK and even though the car had no battery, a horribly smashed windshield and no license plate they didn't even ask any questions other than if we were OK. Anyways, after that I drove the car another 10 miles home without incident.
