I'm just a few months younger than Christina Applegate (Kelly Bundy), so I obviously fell in love with her first, lol. However, it was only a few episodes before I enjoyed the entire cast with Al becoming my favorite, of course. By the time the show went off the air, I was sad to see the Bundy's go. Married with Children remains one of the best sitcoms of all time, and while the entire cast was amazing... Ed O'Neil's Al Bundy character became someone that I think all of us could relate to. Thanks for doing this reaction!! Its so fun to see that Al, the Bundy's and the Rhoades/D'Arcy's are still making people laugh over 25 years later!!

Married With Children is the most realistic TV show depicting the lives of an American family. V Bundys are very relatable to every lower to middle class American family even to this day. They remind me of my family so much that it's unreal. I love the show and it never fails to get a laugh out of me😂

The show ran from April 5, 1987, to June 9, 1997. The FOX network was started that year as a network. Before that, many of us only had 3-4 television channels..........period. When this first started I still remember having to twist the outdoor antennae and adjust the foil on the rabbit ears for better reception.
@mikefetterman67822 ай бұрын
You can tell if it was an 80s episode if Kelly has Platinum white hair, and Peg's hair is actually her's. In the 90s Chritina went to a yellower blonde and, Katie started wearing a wig, her hair suffering from the treatment the first couple years.

Still on TV today, on multiple stations. You can probably watch it all day long like you can the Simpsons. Guess people don't know that FOX changed the world of television. They hit them with Married with Children and the Simpsons right out the gate. Was like when Elvis was on television. They formed committees, had investigations, congressional hearings, even threw tons of lawyers and lawsuits at them. Was and still is good comedy. People still watch them everyday 40 years later.

Married with Children or in German...a terribly nice family. One of the best series ever. The humor, the sarcasm is simply terrific. In this day and age, something like that would no longer be produced because it would discriminate against too many “groups”. which wasn't the problem 20 or 30 years ago, everyone knew it was humor. Today names like Zigeunerschnitzel, Mohrenkopf/Negerkuss, Sarotti Chocolate, Uncle Ben's Rice are renamed because they are no longer "gender" like

Good question. it did sort of end in our time. 1987-1997...and rhe reruns stopped in 2011 It lasted for 11 seasons despite people trying to get rid of the thing...but your right though...how long would it last now? Well, the reruns are back and has been going for a year now, and it is twice as popular as before. So much so, that we have a brand new animated reboot next year thanks to family guy. Oh yes, the show is back and this time they will clash with Florida.. I am curious to see how long this will last. Al Bundy IS King

This would last a long time in my opinion. Even though people publicly talk about being appropriate all the time with the under 45 crowd, they secretly love it. If they can separate fiction from reality, they would enjoy it. Married was never real, nor were any of the putdowns. Nobody was ever targeted and even those talked about like fat people (women), gay people and Marcy were purposely done to offend them. I'm gay and never was offended by anything on the show and this show was therapy, because this family did and said things I could only dream of.

it was cute.. didn't watch this show when it was out... Full Service Gas stations didn't originally charge more, the price was what was posted, sometimes you would get your windshield cleaned, they would also ask if you wanted your oil checked... later when the self serve stations started popping up, hubby says, that's when the full service price went up a bit... In the U.S., like with many things, it depends on the state whether you have self service or not. Of course, way back in the day it was all full service everywhere (which included washing your windshield, checking fluids, tire pressure, etc). Here in Washington state when self service first came around, many places still had full service lanes for a while, but now it's all self service. In Oregon, on the other hand, it's all full service and you can't pump your own gas. At least that was the case, but I've heard they passed a law recently allowing self service in less populated areas or something like that. I think New Jersey is also all full service. But it seems full service is fading into history, which is too bad. Although being a backyard mechanic I've always generally preferred to pump my own gas, the old school full service where they pump your gas and provide all the other services while filling your tank was pretty nice. Society has become much less service oriented, it seems. Now they just want to make you do everything yourself while charging you as much as possible.

15:30 People were offended _then,_ too. Fox almost didn't let them air the period episode. It was intended to be the third season's premiere, but it got moved back to mid season as they were fighting over it. This wealthy mother in Detroit who had connections with Michigan's Republican Party led this campaign to get the show taken off the air because SHE got offended by an episode. It just generated more publicity for the show, ratings skyrocketed, and attracted new sponsors to replace the ones her campaign targeted. We now know this as the Streisand Effect: you try to suppress something and tell people they can't watch it, they'll seek it out in greater numbers than they otherwise would've. People tuned it to see what all the kerfuffle was over, and they _STAYED_ because they discovered the show was hilarious.

As mentioned here already I'm sure, but the show is still shown in syndication. Would it make it to primetime TV today, no telling, depends on the network. People tried to cancel the show back then and we were much more forgiving than today's world. Shows like South Park, which is about as bad and funny as it gets, is still on. I don't see a show like Married With Children being aired on FOX again, let alone in primetime again to be clear. lol FOX was the fourth network next to ABC, CBS and NBC, and this show helped to make that network become what it now is. This show was huge.

I not only think there will be another show like this in the future, I think all the cultural trends that make people say "this could never be made today" are what will make _inevitable._ When one side of the political culture war gets too far up its own ass, and too dominant, a counterforce rises up to combat it. In the 80s, TV was seen as squeaky clean and sanitized fluff by large segments of the audience. In response, the Fox network is formed as the rebel network that will air the shows that are too hot for NBC, CBS, or ABC. In the 2000s, there was conservative moral panic that led to another crackdown on network TV, and the big hits moved to cable. Now it's liberal moral panic we're dealing with, and the counterforce is emerging against THAT. Could we just sorta land in the middle and stay there someday? No. This country can't correct shit, it only knows how to _overcorrect._
