I made this video for those who think a computer quilts my quilt tops. In the video I say, "I am making this quilt ....." I meant to say, "I am making this VIDEO...." Sometimes my brain and mouth fail to connect. (-;

I am watching this video six years later and it is one of the BEST longarm videos ever! Thanks Joy!

I had no idea how these worked, but the best part is you talk like I do.

I wondered what a long arm quilting machine looked like. Wow! I had no idea how huge it is until I watched your video. Your machine certainly couldn't be tucked away into my craft/guest room.

Awesome - I used this video to explain to a non quilter what long arm quilting is all about. Thanks!

It's now 2020 and this is the first time I've seen a long-arm in action! Very interesting.

Wasn’t sure what a long arm quilting machine looked like or how it operated, so thank you very much for the in-depth explanation 😀 I thought it would be an easy thing, how wrong was I 🤣🤣

I googled it, the closest thing I came to was butterscotch basket and it looked nothing like the beautiful quilt on your back wall. I love that it’s just two colors

Thanks for doing this video. Now I know how much labor goes into it. I thought it will just quilt by itself using programs in the PC. You are so charming!

I am thrilled with all your amazing talent. why APQS vs gamml. I know the are both excellent.
@Joy4650B7 жыл бұрын
I chose APQS because of the service. I actually drove directly to Linda Taylor's Gammill business in Texas one day. It was a weekday, and they were open. I walked into the showroom. I said I was there to talk to someone about buying a Gammill. One of the ladies told me it wasn't a good day and to come back another time. I bought the APQS the next day.

I just priced some LAQ's and they run between 5K and 24K. Guess I'll stick to painting.

Joy I enjoyed your video. Your quilts are beautiful. I just got my Tin Lizzie LA and I don't have a computer either but I never saw a device that move your fabric. That is pretty cool! Can that be used for all machines? I hope you make some more videos. You made me laugh when you said you needed video classes from Craftsy. Have a great day!

Thanks for sharing! What is the quilt pattern for the pink and white quilt on the back wall? Absolutely love it

It was on the cover of a book years ago. The original was orange sherbet colored and was named "Butterscotch Sundae". Mine is called Strawberry Sundae.

Well! This certainly was not the video title ‘how longarm quilting works’, it was just you showing you working. I would like to know how the machine works. Do you have a top and bottom bobbin like a domestic machine? I have only seen the top thread, and if there is only top thread, how does it stitch both sides?
@Joy4650B2 жыл бұрын
It is like a regular sewing machine. I wasn't teaching how to use a sewing machine.

I'm sad you had to defend your skills to the web. Someone must have really said something hurtful. Thank you for instructing and sharing. I am about 6 months away from getting into my own long arm setup. Do you recommend buying new or second hand refurbished as a starting long arm?
@Joy4650B4 жыл бұрын
Virtual Admonisher I would say it depends on the company. APQS has lifetime warranties and they sell their demos every year with those warranties. Don’t know about used from an owner. No warranties there. I bought mine new. Sad thing is, warranties don’t follow the machines if they are sold to another person. Repairs and parts can be very expensive, so I want a warranty.

I did enjoy your video, but my gosh, long arm quilting is tiring. I got tired watching it done! Since I am not living in a quilting nation its the first time I am seeing one in operation. I respect you ladies a whole lot. Wish I could have a studio like yours though.
@Joy4650B10 жыл бұрын
Yes, Patricia, I TOTALLY agree with you. Longarm quilting is monotonous and tiring. I don't know how anyone can do it for a living week after week.
@teacat559 жыл бұрын
I long-arm for myself and find it can be both tiring AND therapeutic ...... I am grateful I DON'T have to do this for a living. I also really like that machine you have. I have a Tin Lizzie and I think those foot-operated forward and backward rollers would be wonderful! Thank s for sharing!
