I had my DSL20CR but sold it after a year, keeping my other DSL100H which I use 99.99% at 50W. The only Cons is the more weight and size which doesn't allows you to carry it at small clubs with space limits. But in that case my plan B is a Mooer Preamp Live + Baby Bomb 30 + 1x12 Vintage V30. The preamp has also tone capture of my DSL100H Crunch Ch. 😁. Anyway the DSL20HR with a 2x12 is a very good amp and could cover many live situation in gigs and small live.. Regards..

Great amp - have one for nearly 2 yrs. As Marshall sounding as it gets - both modern and vintage. I will say that master past noon starts to get mushy and gain doesn’t do much more past 1 o clock. As such i never go higher - just boost like you did. I use a Keeley DS9 maxed output with gain noon on SD side and tone 9 o clock. Perfect for a Marshall. Also boost my Ceriatone 36 RP this way. Cheers!

I have the DSL 40C, I feel like the sweet spot of this amp is between 1-2 o clock.. after that it starts to get muddy and the bottom end gets loose..if you push the amp with an overdrive at 1.5 o clock it sounds killer, you can def get the Marshall vibe of a much more expensive Marshall amp.. this amp has more of a modern vibe compared to its old school cousins but if you throw an EQ in the loop you can easily get to Plexi or JCM800 territory.

In my gigging experience, playing live, and owing many amps. Not all 20 watt amps are the same. Some 20 watt amps are louder. Not because you see 20 watts written on an amp means it is 20 watts. And you don't need to be an engineer to know that. Playing gigs, and owning multiple amps will let you know that not all amps that has 20 watt written on it is equal.

Tube amps have more current and solid state amps use more voltage. It drives speakers differently. And it depends how the circuit handles impedance.

We can't get an idea of the loudness because the mics are so close. A practice amp would sound the same. Almost all youtubers do this.
@schorschharrison2 жыл бұрын
I agree to some extent. If the mics were further away you would get a room sound but it would still be a compressed sound due to KZbin and/or probably limiting on your master bus. The close mics pick up the saturation and the break up well, at least in my opinion. You can hear the speakers pumping what you would not be able to hear that well, if I had used room mics. But I understand what you mean Paul. ✌

It's loud for personal practicing, BUT it's NOT loud enough for a regular hard/metal band if you want to hear other type instruments: i.e., drums, etc. Even if you have a 50 watt amp, you might need to mic it as well (depends though).
@schorschharrison2 жыл бұрын
In a live situation or at band practice? To be honest, I never needed to mic an amp at band practice and I bet my drummer is louder than yours. 🙌
@johndolores3152 жыл бұрын
Wrong, I had the DSL20 combo, it was loud enough for a gig with real drums without needing a mic, also I was only at 2 o'clock and gain at 12. Simply put, the relationship with wattage volume is logarithmic. A 100 watt amp is not 5 times louder than a 20 watt amp, its actually around 6 to 7 dbs difference in most cases and about 3db from 50watt to 100watt. Really tiny differences once you reach 20 watts. The reason guitarists get higher wattage amps is not for volume, it's for headroom, and for metal, this means a tighter low end for example, less compression, and generally, to my ears, just a little bit fuller sounding. Although, low wattage amps are fun and easy to play. Now in your case, I'm going to presume that you probably tested different amps for you to come to your conclusion. Basically not all amps with the same wattage have the same level of loudness. Then there is also the speakers, not all speakers have the same level of loudness.
@heut43842 жыл бұрын
@@johndolores315 Well, it can get a little "loud" on the 20 watt amp - you're right, BUT your amp will break the sound a lot earlier. When you pushes your amp, it'll sound like your amp's blown - when you keep pushing a small amp. This is why, engineers only make a "20 Watter" for us to practice and recording - not pushing a small amp. A 20 watt amp can sound "loud," you're right...(if you want to compare by "decibel.") But when it comes to breaking your sound, you'll lose all lower frequencies (i.e., bass, full, etc.). Soon, you have to decrease your bass...other ways, your amp will break. I believe, Carsten Stepanowicz is only trying to show us that this small DSL20HR amp does sound loud, but it's not intended to substitute a bigger amp. Lol. Would you prefer using a 2 months old baby to scream or an adult? Of course, the adult will sound a lot louder (i.e., 100 watts). Lol. Anyway, this is just my 2 cents.
@schorschharrison2 жыл бұрын
I heard a lot of babies screaming louder than men. 😅 I'm getting your point but there are some folks outthere using smaller amps exactly because they break up faster. If your goal is to have loads of clean headroom, you're better off with a 100 watt amp, for sure. But 20 watt is not too quiet for band practice or playing live. ✌
