i really don't understand why so many people disliked this video. It's exactly what i was searching for, and it's perfect to get an idea of how loud an e drum set would be, before buying it. Thanks!

@@andre.1984 Totally agree... You read the title of the video, and after 10 Minutes all you know is how loud Cardboard is... ;-)
@andre.19843 жыл бұрын
@@GregiiFlieger Actually, after a year since the comment, I bought and sold this exact same E-drum model, and I can tell you, it's not as quiet as one would hope for in an apartment. First I had it on an attic, and later in an apartment room. In both cases the energy from the hits propagate through the floor and can easily bother a neighbour. The very first time I played the kit on the apartment, at 10 in the morning, 15 min later my neighbour came over to complain about the bangs to the floor. You'd need a generous amount of padding under the kit to soften that to an acceptable level. Then you have the issue of the cymbals. They're hard plastic with a rubber coat, so you can't avoid making a bunch of loud noises unless you play very soft to stay in normal room level. If want to enjoy playing, you will make a lot of loud clacking noises. So unless you have your own house, or good sound insulation on the floor, I don't advise buying this kit. If you have your own house and good insulation, then get a proper acoustic kit. This electronic kit doesn't give you a realistic feel. It's ok to start as a beginner, but if you have a choice for acoustic, go for it.

@@andre.1984 Heh! Thanks for the reply and the details. Greatly appreciated. I have been spending allot of time looking for ideas to keep the kit quiet. I have this kit, it gets a lot of bad review, I must disagree with many of them, I have had an Alesis dm6 and it was way louder, I kept going back to a drum shop to try all the ekits they had on display, I would rather have my Millenium 850 that I can set up to the dimensions of a real kit, rather than play a beginner to mid range Roland or Yamaha, as those are usually smaller, I am 191cm /6'3" and this kit is very comfortable for me to play, also Roland mesh heads (prob not the high end stuff) are very very bouncy, you can't adjust the mesh heads tension, on these you can, so on the floor Tom's and bass drum I keep them looser to get a more realistic feel! The built in sounds are totally fine and tweak able, (besides you won't be switching them constantly, I use 3 kits in total, also good earphones go a long way, use silicon earbuds that naturally isolate the outside noise, on top of that I have protective ear mufflers builders use) all the cymbals are dual zone and the ride has 3, I love the real hi hat (wish it had more range but it's quite good, on, off, splash and since the hi hats edge is a zone in itself, hitting it increasingly harder as you open the hats does sound like you are opening real hi hats. Re noise, I have a thick carpet and right under the pedals I have a thick foamy yoga mat, if you live in a new build with fake walls and wooden beams the vibrations are hard to stop, my girlfriend still complains, I use the same sticks I use on a real kit, they are carbon and won't get splintered, but they are heavier than the sticks Thomann give you, make sure your wooden sticks are in good condition and not chipped else the mesh heads will suffer, as for the bass drum beater, use the plastic side, not the felt, apparently the friction felt creates eats away the mesh head. Also singly ply mesh heads are more bouncy, haven't tried but might get a set of 3 ply, see how the triggering is affected, they may make the kit a bit louder but more realistic. As for the drum beater, not for the noise but more for making the mesh head feel more realistic, try adding a piece of foam (sponge) to the plastic side with superglue, it helps avoiding unwanted ghost notes or try the Kat Percussion tennis ball beater, Gibraltar sells the same cheaper. I have tried both of the sponge and the tennis ball beater and the sponge worked better but looks funny. If you don't want to build a stand for the kit like he did, Roland make these small boards especially made for pedals (noise eaters they are called I think) they are expensive (70 euros ca.?) but I read they are really good, other option would be those fancy pedals that have no beater but they do have the feel of a real pedal, expensive though but supposed to be great. Also there are drumsticks made out of bamboo, super light but also freaking durable and they don't chip easily, for the long run. To reduce the noise on the cymbals, when you crash, use a sweeping motion slightly to the side/edge of the cymbal and aim for the edge with the shaft of the stick 1. Its better for your real cymbals too 2. The edge of the cymbal has thicker rubber and produces less noise. A lot of these can also be applied to any other ekit, I had my 850 for ca 2 years and had to do no repairs, I think they are extremely good for the price, everyone is so uptight about sound quality of these cheaper kits. Vs Roland but I'm reality no one really records the built in sounds, and if for your everyday enjoyment you really want better sound, you will use a daw or a vst, I tried ableton and the kits sound better than most high end kits anyway.

Hey man, thanks for the video. My main problem isn't so much the noise itself but, most of all, the vibrations transmitted through the wooden floor. A friend of mine solved his problem by setting a wooden board, and on the bottom, he glued halves of tennis balls between the floor and the board. I've never actually heard the final result, but apparently it works very well. Only minus is that it you will not be able to move all this setup very often, as everything is glued. I think it was a good idea to use cardboard as reference for comparing loudness, excellent idea! A good idea was maybe to build a platform out of wooden frame with a thick MDF top, fabric, rockwool and some carpet to protect the top MDF. Then underneath the wooden frame you would use rubber stand-offs so you reduce the amount of the phsyical contact between the drum platform and the floor. That way the taps on the hi-hat will not travel through the stand onto the floor. Excellent video!

@@RArecordingsRickValcon Voice is a parameter that people recognise the most, because we all talk, we all know what a loud voice is and how loudly it can be disturbing to our neighbours. You can speak normally, softly and loud to cover those possibilities in your test. Your voice won't be much different to the average person, most likely. If the drum sound would take over the voice sound, then it's fairly loud. If it's on a similar level or below, then it's fairly silent and can be used in an apartment without a problem.

@@andre.1984 what's the point? The drumkit doesn't talk and a hit has wayy different transients then sillables. I'm blown away by the less noise this makes I mean wtf the bass drum is so silent
@ottohesslein323011 ай бұрын
Why don't you just play the drums with the room mic?
@Rambo338684 жыл бұрын
It would be very helpful if, instead of holding the camera and testing the hats and snare separated, you put the camera steady somewhere near and just play a drum pattern with the whole kit, bass drum included. I find the bass drum is significantly louder than the rest of the mesh pads and I'd loved to hear it.

I think, that pads are not the problem. You close the doors and you're done. Like Rick said, it's the mechanical vibration of the kickpad and some hits an the cymbal pads that go right through the rack. I have a recording of the hole set... if you still need this information .
@Rambo338684 жыл бұрын
@@eDrumsInANutshell Sure! And with due respect, I disagree that "closing the door" would solve any noise problem. I've living in apartments for almost 10 years and whenever I hit my Roland KD9 my girlfriend hears it. It's the only problem with my edrum kit since cymbals are not so noisy and the pad toms can be replaced with mesh ones (super super quiet and great feel). I've been searching for quiet bass drum alternatives (since I play lots of double bass patterns) but I still have to find one.

Dude, you said, you'd love to here the whole kit. Rick and me told you, that an this particular kit, there is actually no noise problem with the snare, toms and cymbal pads. Hitting the kick pad is hearable. But one has to know your flat. It will depend on your floor noise isolation. This is a new build 1 family house in germany. And the germans are quite crazy with those energy saving and construction guidelines. So the whole floor has no rigid contact to the walls. It's "swimming" on a vibration isolating material. I really could not imagine to play that kid in an old house with wooden floors. So, here, using the meshheads you are fine with a closed door. In my opinion even when playing the kick or hats, but my government is quite sensitive to any noise, as well. So... I only doing things on the snare and toms after she went to bed. Some hits on the cymbals I find a bit more noisy than the meshheads. So I leave them unplayed aber 10pm. Wait, I will upload a video on of my kids playing.

Thank you for your video. It would have been interesting to me, hearing the Hi-Hat, while it's hit on the edge with the shoulder of the stick instead of hitting on top with the tip. Edit: However, thanks for comparing with cardboards and toiletpaper. That does help alot.

Very few good videos on this drum kit. I want to look at the work of the module, to hear the real sound. Do you like this drum kit ?

I will do an upload of something I played today. I havent played on it much yet and for double bass i'll probably get a second kick tower.

8 minutes of talking until I finally got the info of what was promised in the clickbaiting video title. And yeah, it is pretty interesting how loud drumming on the stool is.

A not well prepared/planned/edited video. It's rather "on the run" improvised video. Still, the information is there, still effective though.
