The Amazon rainforest, while a critical treasure trove of irreplaceable biodiversity, is not as vital to the planet as some people make it out to be. Far from the 20% claimed, the Amazon produces more like 6% of Earth's oxygen, & just like most ecosystems it ends up consuming nearly all the oxygen it makes. From the perspective of being a carbon sink, in fact large parts of the Amazon are already net carbon emitters. The destruction of the Amazon is ecocide & one of the greatest tragedies of our time. But it is not an existential threat to humanity.

Pantanal's and Amazon's forests fires never being burning brighter. FOr the first time in my life I spend a day and a half seeing grey smoke from a fire taking place >1100km away from where I live. You first world countries judge yourselves being so smart and superior, but, are incapable of leaving your homes to take action and are trembling and crying about 0,5 grams of carbon emission that your credit card company flagged yesterday--- your comment is a hysterical joke.
