Thank you for giving us the facts. We’re paying for the brand not quality. If customers would stop buying these items companies would have to rethink their multiple price increases for a bag that has not been improved. They’re not even giving us low quality leather it’s CANVAS on many bags. At the end of the day these are all WANTS not necessity.
@idaranwa43705 ай бұрын
@tarchuleta1455 We’re paying for the brand not quality. We are supposed to be paying for both. Otherwise we could buy these items at Walmart. That’s also why most luxury brands offer generous warranty guarantees and repair or replacement options. That’s what sets them apart..

Same for cosmetics and skincare. It's all marketing, I worked at a La Prairie spa, the same company makes $10 eucerin face creams and $650 face creams, the caviar extract and 24k gold is bs. Just wear sunscreen and get a moisturizer/cleanser that you like.

The Book Tote doesn't cost 57 Euros to make. That factory in question gets paid 57 Euros per Book Tote. It's likely only 2 pieces of the manufacturing process happen at that facility (like sewing the Dior tag and the handles on). Most of the bag is probably made some where else. Now it probably doesn't cost more than $200/$300 to make the whole bag, but that's true of all luxury brands, even Hermes. But, yes, it's all a lie. We're buying the brand, not some crazy quality/craftsmanship.

Bravo!!! I'm a frugal shopaholic. I thrift, and I find really cool and unique items at a fraction of retail. So, the charity thrifts I patronize make money, and it goes to a good cause. Plus the items I purchase doesn't end up in the landfill. I got tired and annoyed with the luxury houses constantly increasing the prices of their already overpriced items, so I now I go to the preloved or AAAAAA replicas. And, if I get lucky I find them at the thrift.

every time we buy something, so many other people and the environment and other living things get hurt, and we are also hurting ourselves financially and spiritually/psychically. even if the item was “hard to find” or $12,000 and you felt like you were gambling for the opportunity to buy it. It’s so strange that it’s considered a fabulous luxury experience. I am not shopping at stores that are weird like that any more. It was fascinating for a minute, but money in the bank and sustainability is cuter on me. still love luxury collections for others, as long as they aren’t on a soap box with false, ignorant, or demeaning talking points.

Partly agree with you. The worst part of the whole thing is the abuse of the workers. Im someone who appreciate design and quality. I have seen dupes, i touched a fake Kelly and the locker jumped off the bag when i tried to close it. I am deeply saddened that quality could cost tens of thousands of dollars, and often you have to argue, complain and convince the luxury stores to stand behind their products. All this said...i just dont like the design i see in cheaper bags store we talking 20-100 dollar. The bag looks masculine, there is no design element that is interesting and for me, i lived 20 years not having any bags until i could afford nice bags. Ask for me, the world would have been a more sad and grey place to live in without beautiful design. We are heading towards such future due to price increases, low innovation and loothing going wild everywhere.

When you buy luxury anything, you are paying for the name and the name only. Nothing more. Overpriced and overrated. It is surprising that people, especially those who don't make that much money are duped time and time again into buying them. I used to be a fan of luxury brands but now, I only buy local brands. Sure I still own a handful of luxury bags (all second hand, by the way) but the desire to buy a new one, even if I can, is just lost on me. Now I spend on gold and actual paintings.

I used to admire some Chanel bags when I was little and wanted to own one in the future…but now, I feel like it’s a waste of money and I’m glad that I decided to drop all before this kind of news comes out. I’m investing in my personal care and a bit of investments. Cheers to the better life!

It’s striking to me that like… Dior’s using the labor of exploited people; Temu and Shein are using the labor of exploited people. Up and down the whole spectrum of high-status/low-status vendors and goods, it’s exploitation. So what do we do (besides “buy less,” which is probably good advice in itself). What are the practical metrics we use to assess whether a brand meets ethical standards? There are brands like DeMellier that highlight their “ethical and sustainable manufacturing,” which, I’m glad they think it’s good business to market themselves like that, but as soon as something becomes a marketing tactic, there will be brands that try to take advantage of the marketing benefit while not actually living up to those standards (I don’t even know enough to say whether DeMellier does). Do we buy local? Buy secondhand? Look for brands that use union labor? That do their manufacturing in jurisdictions with strict labor regulations (and don't try to skirt them)? I doubt many of the very richest people who are shopping luxury even care about this stuff, but "regular" people can still be more mindful of their consumption practices.

I went to a textile expo yesterday in Los Angeles and I learned a lot. The purpose of making a good replica is for it to be as close as possible to the real. 20 years ago it was obvious when something was make because it was obvious of it being a low quality material or construction of the product when they was using pu to imitate leather. The manufactures got smart in the craft of fraud and got to using the same materials brands uses instead of the worst quality extra material waste. You can get bags manufacture in china for 2.50-20 bucks for 100-1000 moq units with great quality and not using poor quality material, it’s just china as a country has some of the worst labor law’s historically in the world so I understand why you would want to manufacture there but when a company has good ethics hygiene I don’t see anything wrong with it.

These brands all care about one thing and one thing only--money. They don't care beyond that, especially those at the top. Great viewpoint, they've all convinced people they need all of this stuff they don't really need. It's very similar to MLM marketing now, but only a few people are making the money.

It’s not the fact their goods “ aren’t worth it” that bothers it’s that these billion $$ companies are risking people’s safety and paying them next to nothing- that’s the disgusting part.
@jochenkraus70165 ай бұрын
That's the worst part in my opinion. If a shirt costs 4,99 then it's obvious that there's not much money for every step in the long and intransparent supply chain. But several thousand is still not enough to produce a bag without (according to these reports) braking the law? When I heard that I lost all respect for luxury brands.
