Another thing i noticed is that there are no big platforms for Western Groups to promote,kpop has weekly music shows that involves fan voting but there's nothing like that in the West
@PopfiliaАй бұрын
You hit the nail on the fucking head we no longer have tried and true methods to break in acts to the mainstream and to keep them there. One of the disadvantages that came with streaming and having such a large population
@sxwx6567Ай бұрын
@Popfilia reminds me of mtvs TRL. That show was so good and a great way to discover 🔥 music. Reality TV has killed alot lol
@jimams_jamz5518Ай бұрын
@@Popfilia fr we used to have mtv and all this other stuff but now no one's really tuning into tv anymore, they use streaming sites like netflix instead. At least if groups had their own shows or something, or if there was a site dedicated to new talent, then there would be more breakout groups

I personally think if a k-pop company wants to debut a girl group that caters to both in the next year or two, just hire the Boys World members. They can dance, sing, perform well, they all are compatible with each others talents, and they have a bond. Don’t waste time on pushing girls who barely have time to gain experience, just have these girls do it. That’s what I kind of wish the girls would do, is push themselves to other companies to start their group work over, especially since they have a fanbase that would likely switch over to their new group (like the Loona members or Beast members have).
@justonejoon3082Ай бұрын
i mean katseye being everywhere at once is working for them. you’re contradicting yourself because you’re saying that boys world weren’t promoted enough but that’s ultimately what lead to their disbandment
@PopfiliaАй бұрын
No actually with katseye it’s more so HOW they are promoting themselves. And them trying to crack the Korean and US markets using K-pop. And they are finding success in asian markets but struggling in America (it could change though). Boys World needed more resources and time.
@justonejoon3082Ай бұрын
@@Popfilia well it’s too early to tell for katseye but touch going viral alongside their netflix doc did wonders for them expanding their audience beyond just kpop stans. don’t get me wrong, their fanbase is still mostly made up of majority kpop stans but they’re doing pretty well for a newly debuted group. plus their company hybe has huge funding and backing for them. something that boys world unfortunately didn’t have

As someone who was a fellow Star, it ABSOLUTELY broke my heart when Boys World disbanded! KYN did my girls DIRTY!! Of course, they had a good presence on social media especially TikTok, but that can only do so much! They barely promoted the girls, they rarely went on big tours, and the releasing of their music was VERY inconsistent. Where were the interviews? Where were their appearances/performances on talk shows or award shows? Why didn't they have them open for other bigger artists? The fact that they disbanded before they could officially get an album released is NASTY WORK!! I literally could see them opening for Sabrina Carpenter's tour now if they still were around! They had SOOO MUCH potential and it all just got wasted!
@PopfiliaАй бұрын
Yeah something was off with their management. They did an interview saying they couldn’t tour because of the restrictions but then their label mates are doing tours. The boy group KYN had, had stellar Spotify numbers and right after they released their first album they disbanded. So many missed opportunities and questions!!
@Molly-iw1rcАй бұрын
They disbanded them at literally the worst time. It's really wild how much their label sabotaged them.
@PopfiliaАй бұрын
It baffled me how no one at their company was able to think outside the box or look at other independent artists marketing for inspiration

ngl as someone who was on twitter during pretty much their entire time being active they had everyones attention like hit tweet after hit tweet but once wingman dropped they all left like i dont think their company realized how fickle a lot of girl group fans are nowadays like truly all it takes is one song to ruin that interest the gp has (lowkey mantrum made it worse* bc ppl were clowning tf out of them for that)
@user-vm9ed9bc1kАй бұрын
flolifers & kpop stans were on their necks for that song but if any artist or group released it they would be hyping it up

Wow that’s so interesting! Yeah I didn’t like mantrum but the video had some great moments. I was really confused how they went from So What to Mantrum like …it just made it sting more. They definitely needed an A&R

I think fans latch onto a personality. Interviews, appearing on KZbin channels, tiktok collabs, etc. Just ways they can show their personality is huge. You don't have to be good at music but if your personality or presence is strong, people will be more likely to pay attention. I wasn't a fan but I was with them technically pre debut and I feel like they needed more content than they had that showed the girls. I also think having them perform live more often would've been great because their talents speak for themselves.
@PopfiliaАй бұрын
Yeah I think it would’ve been helpful if they kept up with their vlogging more. They stopped at one point and just made their youtube channel focus on the musical releases

Am I the only one think that ggs can become commercially famous but they will never have as dedicated fanbase as bgs do(even if they are not that succesfull wuth general public). I feel like men who are fans of ggs are not as obsessed cause they care more about their looks than personality or even talent, female fans of ggs are just not enough or they are still not as dedicated

Its kinda different for kpop both bgs and ggs have dedicated fanbases can’t say the same thing for western groups

Forgot to comment my thoughts once I finished watching - I feel like the only thing that could’ve helped Boys World, (and something their company only took advantage of at the end) was marketing towards the K-Pop community. Going to China was genius, because that market for C-Pop sometimes overlaps with K-Pop. Girlfriends is/was really loved in Korea, and the type of music they made sounds like K-Pop music, so they should’ve marketed to K-Pop fans. Alaina Castillo, an indie artist who hasn’t had an indie hit in years, has recently gone viral for her song, ‘pocket locket,’ since it was shouted out by NewJean’s Hanni. The song even hit number 1 in Korea, and Alaina went to Korea to promote the song. It’s unprecendented just how much attention Alaina got from one shoutout by a K-Pop group big in Korea. Boys World should’ve been using this tactic from day ONE, they even got into a scandal during Girlfriends for, “copying K-pop groups.” Also, I love how you can tell during this video that you really do care about the girls, and their trajectory as a group. I hope they are remembered in the future in some right.
@emorylamarАй бұрын
Boys World tended to put out the wrong singles. Let’s go back to the first EP. Girlfriends was a cute enough introduction, but their next single, All Me, was so kiddy. I think them not touring outside or LA really made their fanbase KZbin views only. They also didn’t do acoustic versions of their songs, which would’ve elevated them as a group, and it was too many times Olivia and Lilian were doing solo covers, which made it look like the group was going to end.
@PopfiliaАй бұрын
Omg All Me literally makes me cringe I never understood that direction! And I agree I wished they had more opportunities to tour.
