I'm only 5 minutes into the video and I love this subject and the format of your commentary. I wish you would do more videos like this. 100% agree. Deceptive marketing seems to be the rule not the exception as it has been for decades now.... Especially when it comes to wireless products including cordless phones, two-way radios, and Wi-Fi routers regarding their range/speed. It reminds me how you would have those products with a packaging claims you're going to get a certain amount of battery life, and you would get nowhere near that. Maybe 1/3 or 1/2 the battery life if that. Edit: My goodness, everything that I went to type I later heard you say in the video after I made the comment (Wifi & Battery Life). Very good commentary once again.

I bought a cheap FM transmitter board for home use, no casing just the board, plugged it into a phone wall charger and attached a short speaker wire as the antenna.... 3 miles later I could still pick it up... Only wanted it for short range due to the FCC. Ended up just removing the speaker wire and get a few hundred foot range which is perfect. But it overeceeded its spec.Which was surprising. I had a set of 2 way radios in the mid 00s could get about 5 miles out of them depending on the area. I do have one of those RF usb devices and have been able to pick up pagers from hospitals a few hundred miles away with just a simple wire antenna, same for 2 way radio frequencies but the max was around 30 miles.

I don't fully agree with the GMRS radios scenario. Yes, it's listed for a very long range, but often there is an asterisk. The asterisk explains what criteria the device was tested under. It's not deceptive if all of the data is given, even if hidden. It's marketing. When I used to sell printers, I used to always get asked the $64,000 question, which was "How long do the ink cartridges last?" Again, it was the same type of scenario where the manufacturer might claim the cartridge is good for 480 pages, at 5% coverage. The customer was not going to get 480 pages, and I made sure to tell them they weren't getting that, because of the 5% coverage. I'd say "Your idea of a page, and the manufacturer's idea of a page are very different. This goes across all brands we sell. It's like buying a car, it's rate 24 city, 30 highway, you get 18, and that's as good as it gets. Getting back to the GMRS, with radio transmission, it doesn't matter what frequency it's at or the power it's transmitted at, wireless radio transmission can't even be guaranteed to go one single foot, depending on how many air jammers and hash is in the air. Recently, I was sent some high-power wireless access points to test (videos soon), and they claim to produce 1200, or sometimes even 1300Mbps throughput. That is completely true, it CAN produce that, but that again is under ideal conditions which can never be achieved. Therefore, these numbers that are given are the THEORETICAL MAXIMUM throughput that can be achieved based on the specifications. No one will ever, ever get those numbers. And to prove the truth in my "advertising", as explained above with the ink cartridges, I said "You can expect maybe half that, on the very best of days, but probably far less. Nothing but brutal honesty. They say honesty is the best policy. it didn't make me much money, because then they'd talk to a "wheelin' and dealin'" salesman, who will tell them what they want to hear (READ AS: What can I do to get you into this car today?) The customer immediately maxed out their credit card and took the stuff home, only to be disappointed that none of it worked or worked anywhere near as good as claimed. One particular salesman would often have returns totaling 800-1200 a day, and that's all commission that's taken back OUT of his paycheck. All that salesman succeeded in doing was creating unhappy customers. They'd then come to me and tell me the story and I'd give them the lowdown on it. I would then, again, give them the news they didn't want to hear, but I'd promise them that if they listened and accepted it, it would all work out extremely well for them. As a result, I had a following with customers, who would come in and look for me personally, and would not deal with anyone else. When manufacturers test products, there truly is no "one size fits all". In fact, we don't even have that with clothing anymore, it has been changed to "one size fits MOST". Manufacturers would never, ever, ever, give ratings on products in terms of how the average end user would use a product, because of course those numbers are going to be far, far, far lower than the theoretical maximums. They are going to claim the theoretical maximum, and sometimes even pad the numbers higher than that, in order to place their product as better than another. It's just marketing. Anyone who cannot read through all of that malarkey gets what they deserve. I trust NO ONE in this world, unless they earn my trust. Once the trust is earned, that person basically has earned the keys to the castle. And that's what happened when I used to be in sales, but the other way around. The customers learned who they could trust. You are absolutely correct with Amazon reviews. The 5 star reviews are what they want. After going down that road, I no longer provide Amazon reviews for sellers. Instead, I just make the KZbin videos. I make no bones about the product and I don't boast its features, but they will be mentioned. If a claim is outlandish, I'll say so. The bottom line is the product has to work out of the box in the way they say it does. 95% of the products indeed do work that way. How long they will remain working is a different question entirely, as is how well they will work, or how well they will continue to work. So my review videos are always objective and not subjective. Just like when I was in retail sales, honesty is the best policy. At least this way, sometimes I end up with some products that will enhance my life in some way. When I have products that I don't need, I am happy to give them away, which I also so when I have duplicates. This way, everyone benefits. Even with the flashlight, besides the brightness level it will be at after that amount of time, the ambient temperature in which it is placed for this testing will affect it. I've been sent various electric kettles and the manufacturers claim it will boil water in 5 minutes. Those are absolutely true, but I never achieve that. Elevation is one factor. Power is another, meaning if I am running 110 volts and they were running 120, there will be a difference. Another factor is the temperature of the water out of the faucet. That varies depending on the time of year. The manufacturer never stated what the temperature of the water they started with was. Yet these are all factors that are at play here, so again, there is no one size fits all. The manufacturers will only, and ever, portray their products in the best light. They want sales. They say there are only 2 things certain in life, death and taxes. I say there are actually 3, death, taxes, and MONEY is what makes the world go 'round. That's all it ever comes down to, is the almighty dollar, and who's got it.

i agree with you bro all these online stores lie about their products and we are always getting lied to not good your right its time for them to tell the truth about the product which we know they will never do. I enjoyed the video

You're probably right about the reviews being written by the seller themselves.

Good job for busting those lies

I agree with what you are saying. However I don't think it's fair to only drag the manufactures of these products for the simple reason that people are the ones buying the products and should think from a logical perspective about the specifications of a product.
@JordanU3 күн бұрын
I blame it 100% on the manufacturers. It's not innocent, it's done intentionally to deceive people and create sales. You shouldn't have to have a full working knowledge of everything you buy in order to not get ripped off. I think it's perfectly logical and reasonable for the average user who has little knowledge of a particular subject to take basic facts about what he or she needs and compare this to what's written about various models to make an informed decision. It should be simple.

What about TV Antennas on Amazon and other sites that claim 1,200 miles? WOW is the earth flat? Amazon should stop these sellers. As far as FRS Radios they can get longer range if it is line of site. Even with my scanner I have a Tram 1411 scanner antenna. It covers 25 Mhz-1.300 Mhz. And with it connected I hear FRS Radios 4-5 miles a little further than stock rubber dusk antenna on the FRS Radio. The Tram 1411 can transmit on several bands including 49 MHZ. I would love connecting it to a 49 Mhz cordless phone and see how far it reaches. I have connected it to 49 Mhz Walkie Talkie the ones from Radio Shack not the $10.00 kids toys these are the 5 channels from Radio Shack.
