Consider that he was a musical producer from the Classic Era which means that he must have as many Guitars, Amps, and instruments in general as he can to allow a whole range of sounds for the musicians that are going to play a specific song. A very Important thing

Did you see the recent Casino Guitars featuring the collector how was part of an organized theft of his storage unit. This gang started selling them all over the country. Sad story. We all can learn something from this . For me, I told my wife that I need so many guitars in so many places to make them harder to count and to steal!

@@rikkousa he made a LOT of security mistakes so I'm pretty sure my comment mentioning that while making a plea on their platform for help with what probably WOULD NOT happen to most people who manage their assets competently, especially when they have a LOT. It's like if I finally got promoted to a job that paid more than I can spend - eventually I would get an accountant and a lawyer to watch each other and a third guy to make sure they were staying in line too. I mean, when you have that much liquidity you can even hire a couple private detectives to keep an eye on things as well as each other. But they didn't. There was no sympathy in my heart, I don't care if they get them back - I hope someone is playing them somewhere. They didn't respect their money or their stuff so they didn't get to keep it, is the simple truth. Maybe losing all his shit will cause him to make a life evaluation and somehow become a better person and maybe even save his life because lord knows what he was doing to himself party wise if he accumulated that much stuff and was still going "ahhh I'll deal with that later, it's not going to happen to me". I don't know the guy personally but ffs I'm old and I've known MANY people who've had the same thing happen and nearly invariably it's because they were distracted with "other things" that are more fun than making sure your insurance premiums are paid and your locks don't all use the same key and that you have track of all those copies and etc and etc and etc. Hell, I do the same thing but I don't have storage units crammed with valuable non-depreciating hard assets.

Clean ing unfinished frettboards is definately a good thing. Steel wool the fibers that ahed some getting stuck in the wood and rusting eventually. I would suggest trying bronze wool or a scotch brite pad. They both come in different " grits" so happy cleaning. Then a little oil. Nice

Just FYI as a visual artist I found your conversation about the color of your guitars fascinating. Yellow and blue are considered complementary colors which are opposite on the color wheel. So it makes sense that you say they go together. Also, when you combine yellow and blue you get green, which happens to be my favorite color! Love your channel Rick! Keep keeping it real 😎

They went on to do pretty well.... (Van Halen). Ironically, working for Flag Systems as an engineer and grunt, we did sound for a show at Fountain Valley HS around that same time. Top bill was Papa Do Run Run and the opening act was ... yep.. Van Halen. Stage level was so loud, the mics were clipping fully padded! Bad-ass band.

A very interesting video, thanks Rick. I have only maybe had about ten guitars, over 25 years of playing. Often bought cheaply for necessity's sake (i.e. because of moving around and not being able to move with stuff). But I did get a US std Strat, and then a LP standard when I was able to, years and years ago. You know, i never loved either of them. I recently bought a cheap guitar again, out of necessity, and I love it. It's said a lot to me about buying something you like, rather than buying a brand.

I'll let you know when I get there. For now, I've got five very distinct guitars that all sound different. SG with P-90, Les Paul Classic, PRS CE24 Semi-hollow, PRS SE Hollowbody 2 with piezo, and American Pro II Stratocaster. There's still room for a Tele and an acoustic or two. So at a minimum seven or eight guitars isn't too many. :D

The optimal amount depends on what you want. I was happy with 2 for ages, an electric with humbuckers and an acoustic. I now own 3 electrics and an acoustic. Recently picked up a strandberg and I don’t think I’ll be going back to other guitars just on an ergonomic standpoint, which means my collection is going to shrink down again. Some people have dozens of guitars, but outside of pickup configurations and body designs there frankly isn’t much to it for me. Saved me thousands of dollars, which is nice at least

I had the fretboard planned and re-fretted with smaller stainless steel frets. I also replaced the electronics (original pots were stamped 1974) with 1950's style wiring. It's killer, love the stainless steel frets it's the way to go for sure.

@@reidponce I've had my Ibanez RG570 since 1992 so that's 29 years. I've gigged it and modded it and it's been my favourite forever. It doesn't stop me wanting other guitars with a different flavour on a recording. My last purchase was a £100 guitar from the Ukraine. I needs work but ultimately it will sound different to anything I have. You can acquire gear and it's not a problem. All my guitars are up on really good neck grips and all look fantastic sand play fantastic when I take them down. I have a 1964 Teisco VN2 baritone Guitar. It was my first electric guitar. I'd played acoustic for about 2 years. I played it through a Vox AC30 that the Yacht club my father was a member of that sat in an unused hall in the building. I'd played guitar for a few years but didn't have my own amp. The sound of the electric through the Twin 12s of the Ac30 was Crazy. We were not able to properly overdrive it for long because were under the bar and it was crazy loud but that sealed the deal for me. I bought an amp off another local guitarist called a demon 20. 1 channel but had a boost switch that turned it into an animal of an amp. Complete distortion fuzz overdrive. All of it. It was a great amp to learn on because it was either clean or an animal that you had to work hard to clean up to mild overdrive at high attack. Also it would randomly not work and that would require beating it and lots of reverb noises until whatever lose connection made contact. Great amp for me as a 14 year old boy. Luv and Peace.

I agree I use to think I needed 10 guitars and always buying and trying just to realize I can cover all walks of music with my 3 electrics and my acoustic. No more driving myself nuts trying and buying returning guitars Im finally content.

I’m happy once I’ve collected all the pickups for electric and go-to acoustics with different woods. Where I’m at: - 335 (Fralin Medium PAF) - ‘57 Historic Goldtop (Ox4 Low PAF) - ‘57 Historic LP Special (p90) - ‘Strat (Single Coil) - ‘64 Silvertone 1446 (Mini Gibson HBs) - Vintage ‘64 Epiphone Texan (Mahogany) - D28 Standard Bracing (my preference, Rosewood) Next up and hopefully last, Jazzmaster and Hummingbird for Square-Shoulder Mahogany. Waiting now for the “How many amps” vid from you Rick…

I'd say there is 2 types of guitars you own: 1st, the one! 2nd other purpose guitars (open tunings, etc.) *note the guitar 'the one' is the guitar you can comfortable adapt to anything you play... So they all can be the one... I get it aswell :D

Your Gibson acoustic is the best sounding acoustic across KZbin airwaves I've ever heard. Every time I hear it I'm stunned by the tone! There's literally nothing that compares to it!

I love my 86 Charvel Model 4 in "white pearl" altho by now it's actually cream pearl. I'm swapping out all the electronics for what is functionally the same same as stock but with a few upgrades. It's now fully active (as opposed to it originally being only active controls) with EMG 81TWX + SAX + SX with push/pull master volume that splits the humbucker to the south coils, SPC & EXG tone controls, and new set of 3x 2-way on/off pup switches. The switches and metal set-screw knobs are black to match the black hardwares including the original Kahler trem and bar.

Rick's such a Boss, he has a personal guitar tech even though he's not a touring guitarist. I think I'm gonna drop to 9's on my L Peezy, lower gauges really suit, vintage pickups and amps.

Some absolute wonks were blasting Rick's signature guitar on a music forum I browse, and I had to tell them I think it looks killer with the blue paint. I own a black early 2000's DC Special and it plays like a dream, but I wish it had neck binding like Rick's. I think it's so cool to choose a Special DC as a sig Rick, they're the sleeper guitars in Gibson's arsenal.
