Slightly moist hay has the best return in my experience. Too moist it molds, too dry it falls apart.
@jeremyklar81352 ай бұрын
The desired moisture level depends on the type of hay. Alfalfa can be baled with more moisture than coastal or Sudan but I can’t remember the exact moisture levels that are in that range

Direct seeding alfalfa in an alfalfa stand usually does not work well as the mature plants seem to poison out the newly seeded plants! Tried it over the years (40) and never worked. Saying that though, planted into grass or a very thin stand does sorta work sometimes !
@YourMom-ro1ig2 ай бұрын
Alfalfa produces auto toxicity, which prevents new plants from growing.
@spencerhilbert2 ай бұрын
This was planted 60 days after the original seeding. I saw a lot online you can get away with it if you come in early enough before the old alfalfa plants kill off the new germination. So far it looks good.

Hopefully it works for you! I found that ripping up an old stand that was thin was better use for my time and money! Good luck!😊

I wouldn’t tedder alfalfa. You’re gonna lose a lot of the leaves and just be baling stems. But good video!
@spencerhilbert2 ай бұрын
What about tedding right after you cut? lift in up and spread out better? I don't have a mower with roller/conditioner yet so trying to do the best with what I got for this year.
@Zack_Flinn2 ай бұрын
@@spencerhilbertfrom what I’ve seen it doesn’t matter whether it’s dry or freshly cut tedding or raking with throw off the leaves I use a 2360 John Deere swather with a 225 Chrysler and a 25ft head for cutting hay that doesn’t have a crimper so I let the hay sit for 3 days before baling so I recommend a haybine or a disbine since they will crimp it and it will cut faster

@@spencerhilbertthe roller conditioner is mostly for thick stemmed stuff like cutting sorghum or grazer for hay

Some advice on alfalfa, in my experience it is best to not touch it when growing, no manure or nothing. Interseeding can help but i would avoid it. But its just some advice from belgium, so that wouldnt apply for the usa

Man. I went through my furst hay year borrowing just a tractor. It dont work out. If i were you id find the funds to go buy a round baler first. A disc mower 2nd and a rake last. And if you can a tedder. Im still working funds for a tedder myself

@@JefferyAshmore with weather as bad as mine. Yes it it. Alot of people get by without a tedder but it sure is nice to have round bales made before a big rain because of your tedder then to watch the rain fall and cuss yourself because your hay is ruined

Next time you should not use a wheel rack because they pick up dirt and trash into your windrows instead you should use a Roadory rack or a basket rack this two don't pick up trash or dirt if they are adjusted right

It should be against the law to tax farmers. Also stop the inheritance tax. All taxes are against the constitution except if we are attacked and have to pay for war. And then I wouldn't believe the news.
