Just do an out door run over clamp we used to do it with next to no waste just one sheet ,12k in plastic is alot,look at Richard wheel right he does outdoor clamps ,got to be cheaper all the labour ,loading carting unloading stacking, cutting film pulling wrap off getting rid of wrap netting etc,don't add up to me bud with amount of grass you cut even building a clamp 12k a year for plastic plus time labour say 15k over 10yers 150k that would pay for a bit of concrete mate plus you could get a grant bales are a ball ache but if it works for you pal

You're right Will. The biggest problem with clamp/pit is when you start, you need to continue filling until it's full. Unfortunately the weather windows in our part of the world are brief . Baling is the safest way to go.👍

@@SeanMcgovern-z8v do the majority of fames in the area baling over 5000 ?.. .. I'm in Devon and I'm not sure what direction I would need to go to try and find someone milking over 70 cows who doesn't do some form of clamp silage. The weather is catchy everywhere but if you build the pit correctly its not a problem and then do 3rd/4th cut with bales when it's a much lighter/simpler to cover the ground

Will. What are disposal costs on plastic these days? How many cows to feed? Fascinating for old timer dairyman.

I’m not sure off the top of my head but it’s roughly around £400-£500 a trailer load and our trailer is an old 8 ton silage trailer

Ya all you need is a concrete base, clamp is so handy, contractor does it all, no need to be running round the fields collecting bales, its costing us in ireland this year 35% more to make bales.

Interesting video Will 👍 never having worked with silage bales was amazed at how little the cost was per bale😳 going back to when i worked with silage our forager tractor which was hp equivalent of your 399 ours was a 698 turbo and it drank a tankful of diesel morning afternoon and night at times , dont know consumption of the 3 590s on trailers but were 10 ton trailers and then the 575 4wd turbo on the silage clamp so was quite a few gallons of diesel per day , then cost of forage harvester, 2 feeder wagons, 10 ft mower, tedder adds up to a lot 🤔 in your case dont think diet feeders would work without a lot of building work, no disrespect to yourself, so i would say if your system works for you if it aint broke dont fix it 👍

Thanks Bob! Yes I’ll put my hands up and say that for our system round bales suit it perfectly and we’d definitely need to change alot to go onto clamp silage and a diet feeder feeding!

100 bales here in southern Ireland cut , bale and plastic . 1700 euro . Plus the diesel to stake bales. . That’s not including the fertiliser. So price is much higher

Interesting your cost My cost Net £380 a roll does 280 bales =£1.35 per bale Wrap is £81.60 covers 28 bales =£2.91 Disposal of wrap works out £3.00 =7.26 per bale We make average 8 bale to acre just over 700 made

Suppose it depends we’re abouts in the country you are… without looking I think some of the wrap we had this year was actually less than £60 a roll I just know the dearest was £64 so I went with the dearer one in the costings just to make sure I didn’t underestimate the costs, net wrap varies a lot tbh, some manufacturers put more on a roll and you get more out of them, others only put the bare minimum on

Avrage speaking, 10 bale per acre 1st cut £2,50 a bale, £25 per acre!!, even all in £3 a bale £30 an acre, build a silo, £'ss to no end depending on spec, ie roof then find a contractor to put it in for £30 an acre, good luck with that, in my opinion the man's %100 correct and it suits his system

@@ulstermen if you speak to your local water authorities/charity you can often get the clamp built half price and then use the government grant to get the roof put in after,if you want to roof 👍

It costs twice as much to get custom round baling then getting it custom chopped. If you have the land why not loader wagon or pull type harvest rather then picking up bales all the time. And with the pull type of SP you get all the knives in unlike them mchales. That roundbale plastic bills gonna be 30-40k
@bwarey52
@bwarey52 14 күн бұрын
@@peterflukiger9811 the forage wagon is the cheapest and most flexible way of shifting grass in most cases,a long haul being one of the down sides. I have 2 wagons come and do 80 acres in a day and the bill is the same cost as the plastic for 10 bales an acre would be. The next day I can get some dung and fert on and get the after grass growing rather than sat looking at a wrapper for the next week

We do 2500 bales hay and silage each year, own kit plod along getting it done, beef cows etc. The blokes not far out, diesel is abit more, roll o net does about 180to 200 plastic 32 is standard for 4 layers. Contractor cost for forager round here would kill us and we have done some so know.
