Chuggaconroy recently LPed Yoshi's Woolly World and he also talked about using Yoshis instead of enemies for the statues in the final level. If I remember correctly he had a way to color all 4 without eating any enemies. That could reduce the egg count to 7.

from a speedrunning trick, for the final level, you could only use one, enter as red Yoshi, use a green Yarn Yoshi amiibo, have another Yarn Yoshi Amiibo that has one of the primary blue skins, then grab a skello-goonie then use it on the white statue, then use the amiibos, which would bring it down to 8 yarn balls

If you use any of the compatible non-yoshi amiibos (like the smash ones) during a level, your current Yoshi will turn into that costume, you can access all 4 final level locks like this!!! I used the Inkling Squid amiibo to bypass the Green Bowser Statue, the Villager amiibo for the red one, The Inkling Boy amiibo for the blue one, and my very own Fluffin Puffin' Yoshi for the white one, meaning you can bring it down to 7 broken eggs!

You forgot that you can get the yarn balls back from the chain chomps since they get that yarn string which yoshi can eat and make a egg out of. So that can help subtract some eggs for you since you didn’t get them back. But you solved this with a yoshi buddy so yeah.

If you time it just right, you can flutter jump indefinitely AND gain height. I did this once to clear the first section without using the yarn balls.
