It seems to be a limitation with consumer WiFi. A commercial grade Wi-Fi system and it will likely work good enough. I have 8 HomePods on a Mesh system that work fine but they didn’t work with a normal router. You can check how many devices a router can handle simultaneously. I’m pretty sure that’s the real problem. It’s not one device streaming and sending the music to multiple speakers. It’s a full data stream to each HomePod which ends up being too much by the time you add 7 or 8 streams together and they have to process the data so they synchronize audio. They’re doing something very taxing on the processing power and bandwidth available.
@GeorgeLangabeer2 жыл бұрын
I have gigabit internet and one of the best wifi routers you can by, I have speeds of 999 up & 999 down and the mesh system to support it. Still had the problem.

@@GeorgeLangabeer I think you’re right. Probably a limitation on the HomePods rn. If I think about it, it doesn’t run trouble free but good enough. Like I can’t tell it to “play everywhere” but if I wait until each speaker is synced before adding another one to the mix, they will stay synced up and work fine which they didn’t do with a normal router. I think the thing the HomePods do best is synchronize audio in different rooms. It’s like magic and very enjoyable when it’s working but considering they only have an Apple Watch processor, it’s amazing they’re able to do what they do. It’s not perfected for sure. A nice product IMO. I faster processor would be a good upgrade because the iPhone is noticeably faster than the Minis or Apple Watch on requests like working the lights/door locks etc

I have 9 but for me the main issue has always been with stereo pairs. I found that adding a alarm to a sterio pair would create a duplicate entry when you bring up the properties of the pair with the HomeKit app. Also they can be a nightmare to delete. One of my HomePod's had to be unpaired and then added to a new Home before I could reset and reconfigure it. Also I concur with your comments about Thread stability.

Yeah, stereo pairs have the most issues if you go over 6. My biggest issue was one of the two dropping out. They were fine when using them as a solo pair or as TV audio, but grouped with the others, things went south quick.

My take away from this is that you can have nine, but you can’t use more than six simultaneously. Does this apply to OG HomePods as well? My current setup includes 6 OG HomePods and 6 minis. But I usually use only one stereo pair (OG or mini) at a time for music and/or default audio from my Apple TV. The rest of the HomePods (OG and minis) are sitting at idle waiting for Siri commands but not being used for audio. My big complaint is that when set up as default audio for the Apple TV the OG HomePods suck up WIFI bandwidth like there’s no tomorrow. So I literally have stopped setting up the remainder as default audio unless I’m actively watching a movie in another room. The other problem is that the living room setup (Apple TV 4K v2 and two OG HomePods set up as stereo pair for default audio from the ATV) goes flaky about once every two weeks-one channel not working, no sound whatsoever, distorted sound, you name it. And then I have to go through a whole dance to get things back to working properly. If I’m lucky, I just have to reboot the ATV and set the HomePods up again as default. If I’m unlucky, I have to reboot the HomePods too-and anyone who actually HAS HomePods knows what a royal pain THAT is. And don’t even mention the breath-holding I do every time there’s a HomePod OS update. I love my HomePods but it’s definitely a love-hate relationship. 🤬 so, yeah, Apple it’s time you fix this!

I don't understand the jump to complaining about thread. While HomePods are border routers for a thread network, that doesn't necessarily mean *music* goes over the thread network. I know thread does not have the bandwidth to handle video, and I assumed it also doesn't have the bandwidth to handle CD-quality music. If they are marketing this device as something that a) can and should be be configured as a left/right pair for optimum audio experience and b) should be sprinkled throughout a house to fully benefit from all of the voice-enabled smart home features, it would be extremely easy to cross that 6-unit threshold. strange.... I had no idea about 6...... I have 7 (6 minis and one OG HomePod) - There ARE issues but I put that down to Apple and the fact that the Alexas they replaced could also have their moments too - the HomePods have been no worse than the multi room Alexis were.... By and large... I would say the HomePods work flawlessly about 95% of the time. is that 100? No... sadly its not, but every time there is a software update im hoping that number gets closer to 100. One tip - if you ask your HomePods to "play music everywhere" and it just does nothing... or comes back with 'there is a problem with Apple Music'..... simple pick up your iPhone, ask it's Siri to play whatever it is you want... then tap on the airplay icon and select ALL your HomePods - it will immediately work 100% of the time. Its a small workaround but worth it for the convenience of multiple HomePods.
@GeorgeLangabeer2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that workaround works great, but you shouldn’t have to do a “workaround”. It’s Apple, it should “just work”. I expect problems with Amazon products, I don’t expect problems with Apple products. I bet your 95% would increase to 99%-100% if you got rid of #7 (not that you should have to get rid of #7). I haven’t had a single problem since I dropped to 6. Ps…when I had 9, the Airplay workaround didn’t work properly either. There were always a couple that just refused to be selected (I’d have to reset them every-time I tried & sometimes even that didn’t work). 7 was fine on that regard).

Consider yourself lucky! I had decent success with 7, but not ideal. Going down to 6 fixed all my issues.

First off I cannot understand for the life of me for music and movie 🎥 viewing why you would replace Sonos with HomePod minis? Sonos is AirPlay 2 and show up in HomeKit. The sound quality difference between the 2 is astounding Sonos by far is superior in that area. I get maybe HomePods in the bathrooms kitchen etc…. But for daily voice use and the thread router. I’m a music, movie buff myself there is no way I would listen to music and movies on HomePod minis over Sonos and I do have minis in all rooms but I use them for thread, intercom and voice control there is no way they are taking over my Sonos for entertainment. “Hey Siri play my playlist on office Sonos”

The only reason I sacrificed my surround sound, is because The Sonos was too much for the apartment. I kept getting complaints. Especially with the Double Subs. Like I said, I’m hopeful for that new full size HomePod getting back to better sound with Atmos.

If Sonos and Apple ever figured out how to bring Siri to its speakers like ecobee has done this would make my Life much easier

Makes sense. I have 7 and I keep having issues. Now. I have to decide which one to sacrifice to the Apple Gods.

I feel your pain my friend. The Apple Gods can be very cruel & unfair.

It is always boring listening to a person self absorbed. The video even has a picture of HIM, listening to HIM bleating about HIS experiences. Stick to the facts, get the story done. I only watched all of it to see if HIS head would explode…nah, absolute sponge, can’t get enough of HIMSELF.

Wow. What a wonderfully constructive pile of worthless input. Sorry you were so “bored”. I look forward to when you start your own channel & show me how it’s done. I’ll be happy to be the first to critique. I’m sure you’ll blow me away with your amazing insight. But hey, thanks for watching & thanks for the comment. You just helped the channel. Have a lovely day. 😊✌🏻 Sincerely, The Sponge 😊 Ps…maybe if you watch the rest of my videos & realize I have stage IV cancer & I’ve shared my journey with the only intention to help OTHER people and spread awareness, you’ll realize how inept your comment is.
