I have about 120 items listed and stay around 100 active and for past month I sold 60 items! I literally only buy items that I think will sell in a week or less by pricing it the lowest on eBay! So if I list 10 items right now I’ll sell 7-8 of them within the first few days! I don’t want many items in my store, I want to list it and sell it in that first week!

Thank you for posting such great content videos. I’m on my third month of reselling. I’m at 80 listings and am at 1 itemish a day. I’m selling kids clothes, women’s clothes, a few men’s, kids toys.. other cool random things I know. I list consistent through the week, to drive buyers and traffic. Focusing on quality pictures, clear descriptions, and amazing customer service.

Quite a bit of a difference selling 10 items for $3 each and selling 1 item for $200. Doesn't seem like quantity really matters. It's the income that pays the bills.

How can you calculate an ROI without knowing the average level of demand for your product or products? Everything sells at an appropriate market value, but knowing how often it sells allows you to calculate real returns.
@desaulnd5 жыл бұрын
Very interesting video thanks for posting it. My Sell through is between 2.8 and 3% for an average of 60 Listings total in the Collectibles category. Now one important thing to consider - and that is not covered in your video - is the fact that every item has its own sell-through rate (which in turn influence the generic sell-through number), and that a key factor in influencing this rate is to list as GTC, maintaining an inventory, and build strong sale history for each item. If you work hard and long enough with this concept, you can eventually reduce your number of active listing (just keeping the most productive listings), and still maintain a high sell-through rate. Its worth noting that repeated sales for an item do not appear in the sold listings, so there's a huge blind spot on the exact number of sales that are associated with one specific GTC listing in a given timeframe.

Used clothing like everyone on KZbin. Was really counting on 1% sell through when I crunched the numbers to see what it would take to go full time. Was right around 1% until I started getting to 400-500 listed, then it started going down. As 10Konthebay explained, the more of one type of item you list, the more you start to basically cannibalize your own sales since there is a limited market for used clothing. I'm currently at 890 listings, selling about 5-6 a day, whatever that works out to. I have just about run out of space and savings, so desperate to find another profitable niche. I had a HUGE drop off around the hurricanes, just now seem to be getting my momentum going again. Also this is my first 4th quarter and took me a while to figure out winter clothing. If I can hang on financially through the winter I think I'll be ok.

LakewayTreasureHunter ... I hope the best for you!👍 I’ve seen the same thing myself. Sell through did not go up in proportion to inventory. It was 1% at 400-500, but I’m at 700 listings now and still selling same amount per day. I’m currently trying to source only items I can sell for $20 and up I started with a goal of $30 and up but was coming home empty handed.

I have been selling mostly children's clothing new with tags for months. I also sell women's clothing and Coach wristlets and clutches that are in pristine condition. This has been my worst month yet. Nothing is going any. Where. I have about 50 listings now. That may not sound like a lot but I have a ft job and I'm a single mom so I'm limited on time to list and buy. I'm selling as fixed price obo sometimes free shipping sometimes not. Nothing is moving. I send most stuff first class mail. I don't even know about the 3 day thing yet but I guess I'll have to sign up for it. I'm just shocked and the screeching halt recently, in sales. Thank you for your wonderful videos!!!!

Hey Casey - we have a low sell through rate - .003 (about 1/3 of 1%) although we specialize in Dishware. We have a high average sale price of about $40 per item so I don’t put much thought on the rate. We average about $100 per day net right now, with about 1300 listings. I’m good with the higher listing count, lower sell through rate, and having a regular and predictable income. Sellers - don’t neglect dishes at goodwill! Pretty amazing buys and it’s everywhere, just sitting.

I'm so glad you made this video. I've been very curious how much others are selling. I average 3 sales per day in my main store which works out to about .4% of my total inventory. I sell a mix of clothes, shoes, collectibles, china, etc. Also I just opened a second ebay store that will only sell clothing shoes and accessories so I am excited to see how those sales will average out over time. In it's first month I sold 12 items out of 100 listings.

Good information. Ours has been right around 1% or a little more. The closer we get to Christmas the percentage has been dropping. Since the begining of the year we were selling 15 average per day until September (after Irma) when things started slowing down. Now we are lucky to get 10 per day. Yesterday I heard ebay has changed the way it is working with Google searches. I used to be able to search google for my listings and there would be ebay results right near the top or images at the top to click on. Now I see many other retailers ( Cabellas, Stein Mart, Amazon, Belk, Bealls and many others) before finally getting to ebay. Something looks different here compared to earlier this year. Mike

The thing is that sell-through rate alone is not a good metric. You also have to take into account profit margin, because I could have a crazy high STR if my prices are low enough.
@PETERJOHN1014 жыл бұрын
You are missing the point. The *_average_* sell through rate for a particular product class is based on aggregate numbers that have pricing already built in. IOW, the data is providing a sell through rate based on a baseline of pricing support that is optimal for those products. People are not going to sell stuff at cost just to have 20% turnover every day, they tend to sell for prices that give them the maximum ROI.

I guess I'm doing pretty good. 40-50 Active Listings and average about 50-60 sales per month. I sell Electronics, but the margins are terrible and testing of items is very time consuming. Then you have to deal with B.S. buyers that claim items don't work when you test every item fully before I even put them in my inventory for sale. Just a lot more work with electronics, but higher sell-through rate. I really need to turn the dial up though, since I can't quite make a living doing this with all of the fees, shipping expenses, and shipping material. My biggest issue is the time to test everything. I have a ton of inventory, but it takes me months to get it tested depending on how big a lot is. I wish I could afford someone to do the testing, but even if I could, I would be worried it would not be done to the standards of what customers expect. reputation is everything, so it worries me to trust someone to do a good job testing electronics, and what to look for. I had my cousin help me, and I showed him how to do it and paid him for every item he tested. I double checked the work, and had so many that I wouldn't pass as good that I said screw it and started doing it myself again. I guess it sucks being a business owner when you have to worry about an employee screwing up all of your hard earned reputation with questionable work. I guess I'm at a loss for growth due to time spent on testing. My take-away here is that I need to sell higher margin items, and do less work. Low Margin high energy work is just producing less than minimum wages for me right now.

My sales conversion rate had been at 2% for the longest time but it's recently dropped to 1.4%. I'm not sure why, exactly. I'm not sure if that is what you're talking about. Things have slowed down a bit this month. I maintain roughly 1100-1200 items and have been averaging about 6-7 sales per day. Some days it's 5, some days it's 8. Weekends are usually much better. That is an increase from a few months ago, but I am getting a little discouraged when I hear other peoples higher numbers. I try not to compare but I work so hard. I sell mostly clothes, but I also sell VHS tape, some toys, household items - anything that I think will make some money. The VHS tapes are mainly my collection and my moms so I know those drop my average sale price. I recently upgraded to an anchor store, jumped the gun on that, but I'm trying to get more listed. Thanks for the video. It was interesting.

Honestly, I have not worried about sell through rates. I have been more concerned with listing. I normally have 50 listings (and that's a good month) but have struggled to get to 100. My sales are all over the place so that's one reason I do not concern myself with sell through rates. For example, one month I sold 45 items but grossed over 2k, another month I sold 4 items and grossed over 400, sell through rate just isn't important to me.

Roughly 250 items listed on avg for last month. 49 items sold. 8 of those items were non clothing/high demand NFL and Star Wars items. Otherwise, it would be 41 items just clothes. .6%-.7%. overall. We also raised prices and stopped free shipping in the last 30 days.

I have been watching you though since I started and was like okay clothing is profitable too so i started with jerseys did really well had several sales over 100$+ on jerseys i maybe paid 5-10$. I then dipped into clothing made several list on my phone where I would go to goodwill learn brands but some stuff i knew was worth money etc. Eventually i picked it up well enough i just knew prices became very good at local goodwill. I sold lucky brand jeans very well banana republic sell through rate for me is crazy along with ralph lauren and a few others. What i have learned though as i went further away to goodwills i found less the people working don't know you as well and me being 17 they don't respect me as much as customer and i often came home empty handed. Best thing to do is become friends with local managers at goodwill they help me so much because they know what i do ill walk in they'll start talking to me and if they have any new racks in the back not looked at they always bring them out when i come. I've found several harley davidson jackets button downs j crew and several nwt clothing from this!

@newriverdiggers58217 жыл бұрын
Just shows how subjective STR's really is. Ebay has always promoted listing more than your allotted freebies so they make listing fees. In the end you can list 50 a month and sell 40 or you can list 1000 blue shirts and sell 10 a month. My STR's on plastic model kits and coins runs about 60% but i can't locate enough so i list clothing for STR's around .5 %. Almost seems like ebay has a built in check of some kind to spread the wealth because you will be hard pressed to find somebody with giant volumes selling over 300-400 a day even in hot markets

You are correct, I do not mind sharing "secrets" because we all need to make a buck. video games and electronics.
@michaelkinney58056 жыл бұрын
The biggest secret there would be to my high sell through is everything is buy it now or best offer, with free shipping. With no auto decline or auto accept. Literally meaning I have interaction with every potential buyer, building a relationship with your buyers even through an offer system sending messages, up selling, saying things like well I would take that offer if you were to buy more than x amount of items to save me shipping really gets people into the idea of "bulk" buying, while still making a 150% or more profit when your taking $2 less per item your saving potentially $2.66 per item if you ship it first class. Using your quarterly $25 shipping supply coupon on 400 padded mailers is helpful aswell, it brings cost of packaging down to 9.5 cents per dvd case, 4.75 cents per trading card and 19 cents per large order. (The size I buy I can cut into 4 for trading cards, 2 for dvd cases and the mailers end up costing 19 cents each). Also know the USPS weight allowances helps so much. You can ship 6.2ounces at the 4 oz price without any penalty and there is a 50% allowance for priority mail up to 2 pounds, so using that to your advantage really saves on shipping cost. If you can get your cost of shipping down you can raise profits greatly per order.

I'm not sure how to figure my sell-through rate since I have two listings that have been active for about two months now but they are open box blue tooth transmitters and I started with a little over 500 of them. Most of the rest of my 20ish listings are individual items like electronic typewriters (old typewriters from the thrift stores) and vintage waffle irons and a few books things like that. The Monsters sold well all summer until about two weeks ago. looking at my sellers' page it shows 237 items sold in the last 60 days and the profit margin is around five dollars each for the transmitters (selling at 10$ each including shipping and I have about a buck twenty invested in them) the more one person buys at a time of course the better the profit since the shipping cost per item drops dramatically. So this video is quite the eye-opener for me, I thought it was odd that I hit top-rated seller status awful quick for no more than I was selling but I think I see why now. I have just leased a booth at one of the local antique stores to sell some of the bigger and heavier stuff I've accumulated in hopes that the offset in shipping will pay the booth rent....we'll see, lol.

So far I'm seeing that as long as I maintain 50-55 listings I sell about 1 item every other day, on an average basis. I might not sell anything for 3 or 4 days and then boom I sell 5 and 2 days. 16 sales in the month of May.

Most people average 1 sale per day for every 100-125 active, without missing a day.. with your 50 items active that's probably why you are at 16 for a 30 day month.... 1 every other day average.. if you had 100-110 you would be at 30 for the month :-)

@@RockstarFlipper Yes that's what i'm working toward. Only been selling for in this niche since march. It seems to be working well for me. I've got almost enough merch to reach 100 listings. Not sure of an ultimate goal yet, but I'm thinking 3-400 listings.

Lol I have only 15 items and have a 39% sell through rate. That I was doing bad all this time. Looks like I need to put new items this year.

I just started eBay last week and by the end of week I will have 7-8 items out of 39 listed. Is that a good start?

I was selling every day several items a day now I haven't been selling anything I had 1 sale last week and when i called them and asked them to "reset" my account they said their is no such thing and that they could, "refresh" my listings. The last person I spoke to said I need to get a store.

what to do if 2 buyers make the same dollar amount offer on the same item at the same time.

I know this is video is a little older, but how do you ship items for free when they sell for $2-$6? Even $10?
@RockstarFlipper5 жыл бұрын
You mean how do you offer FREE SHIPPING on those items? well if something sold for say $10 the ebay fee and PayPal fee will be about $1.59 so $8.41 left over...assuming its first class which would be the only items selling that cheap... $3.50-$4 to ship leaves them $4.50. less cost of goods.. usually people like this are buying $.25-$1 bulk items and making $3.$4 profit.. on the cheaper things maybe $1-$2... sometimes its just moving inventory to get rid of it close to break even... and sometimes its loss leaders to get customers in to buy other items. Thanks

I have 1,200 items. Half clothing and shoes, half home goods and general merchandise. I had been averaging about 12 a day, which seems about right however suddenly my sales have dropped down to 2 a day. Feedback has been consistent at 98.5% positive. Have I been shadow banned? 🤷♀️
@RockstarFlipper2 жыл бұрын
Yeah 12 per day is honestly AWESOME with half of them being clothing. Did you recently get that negative? if so it can be hurting
@jenniferallen74012 жыл бұрын
@@RockstarFlipper No I had 2 negatives about 6 months ago. I've been selling for about 3-4 years. The only thing that is different, is my son wanted to start selling, had too many returns too quickly, got a MC011 and then permanently shut down. I have logged on to his account from my computer to help him out and I am wondering may ebaY has linked us together and now and punishing me. That's the only thing I can think of.....hoping after the 15th sales pick up.

Interesting video. I don’t feel so bad about my sales now. My best day ever was 8 items in a day with 55 listings but that was a fluke. I have 60 listings at the moment and seem to have 1 sale every 3 days on average now.
@8055boss80557 жыл бұрын
Definitely depends on what you sell. I actually looked at a seller I came across earlier. you should take a look at them. they have under 1200 listings and I looked at their solds for the 10th and stopped counting when i hit 130. Im betting they were closer to 170-180 for the 10th. sellers name is hiparts, seems like they sell generic items and parts.

How do you have your Ebay screen setup? I like that quick summary bar you have at the top of your task bar. Is that a plugin you are using, or is there a setup function in ebay to do that?

Thats very slow... even if you did 1/2% per day which is slower than normal you would sell 15 items a month... its either your items are bad, or your prices.. one or the other usually. Maybe a few smaller issues.. im happy to do a store review.. sowl.co/JFzzT

I sell only plush. There have been about 300 items in my store most of Nov. and I average about 15 sales per week... so meh. But, I only have 35 feedback right now so I hope once I build up my rep a little more I can get to at least 1%.
@RockstarFlipper7 жыл бұрын
More feedback will def yield more sales. Your also selling plush which is a slow mover anyways, takes lots of items. 2 items per day on 300 isn't bad

Those completed listings on a store's 'items for sale' page aren't accurate in regards to how much they've actually sold. I've sold 85 items in the last month, yet it only shows 37 sold listings on my items for sale page.
